I know it's been suggested already but I want to keep the idea alive.
How about the class of ship you have is reflected on your ship's appearance. You start of with a simple ship and the furthur you get the more complex it looks.
Also, the dominant hull type you have on your ship would be reflected on your ship's colour. The dominant shield would be reflected in the pattern on your shields.
I know people are going to say something like, "That would defeat the purpose of cloak! -1"
Which is why in the newly put ship settings there could be an option to show your ship's true appearance to everyone, your legion/friends, or just yourself.
As for ship class, people can already see that on the bt so it doesn't exactly matter much.

What do you think? Got any suggestions that could add to this? Please tell! :)

I like this idea, However I offer this solution too "cloak" your amount of cloak gives you customizability. allowing you too show a better or worse "avatar photo" adds bluff factor.

That is definately a good one!
It could either be a research tree that gives you better and better bluff technology or a rare artifact you can get from artifact production that acts as a buff that can't be removed that gives a random better/worse pic of your ship to the enemy, but can only be activated/installed if you have set it to everyone can view.

It could be different from cloak because instead of hiding your modules, it randomizes what you have. So if you had say 8 anti-proton cannons, it could show up as 3 light quazi-chaotic blasters and 2 autocannons.

It could work for planets too. The better the bluff tech, the worse the planet will look to enemies.

That gives me another idea:
The cloak on a planet could hide buildings like it hides modules.
And perhaps a new couple tiers on the base research tree that allows cloak, which can hide the modules of a base when it has ben target locked.

Man you just made my brain go crazy with ideas! ;)
