If you do not have great researched tech for your level, this will be especially handy for you.

1. When you logout, uninstall/destroy all your hull modules, install with the remaining space shield modules.

2. when you log back in you will have lots and plenty of shield

be careful about disabling yourself in this phase because you want to save your first repair on a FULL hull
and you can choose to pop nanite swarm capsules right here to keep yourself with a little more hull, since it will be handy later anyways
3.start your attacks til you ALMOST disabled, then use (shield amplifier and shield restorer if you feel the need to), rinse repeat til you are done using shield restorers

4. Once you are done with shield phase, Attack til you are disabled, then destroy/uninstall shields and put hull back on. then its back to attacking/waiting for 5 minute repair.

Enjoy

Good idea but it entirely depends on what race/profession you are..

I am konqul fixer (30% hull) so I find hull most important factor for NPC farming and shield almost means nothing to me. I find repairing hull CHEAP even with increased cost.. 15M per repair is nothing when it comes to my hourly income. I also am armed with so many nano repairs that comes from very high artifact production.. I also buff 50% hull every time I go on NPC farming as well as buffing weapon and defense % too.

Shield only serves me well when I am offline defending from PC aggressors who were curious enough to poke me in the kill list..

In fact I am only rank 80 and am making 1mil to 2 mil an hour, my upkeep per day is 463.8k(Im a builder, so double that if you are not), and my repair cost is an average of over 80k. And Im gonna get a better mining planet soon.

Shields can actually have their benefit. Typically when I just log on after being out for a while and my energy bar is fully charged, hulls typically work better because they don't take as much deck space, of which I'm more limited on because of all the reactors I have equiped. Once I burn through that energy though and I unequip some reactors and replace them with relays, I typically "ping" away at NPCs, as in I'll come back once an hour or so and hit them a few times till my energy is gone. This is where sheilds come into play as your sheilds recharge faster than your energy, they absorb a lot more damage this way which saves me on hull repairs. Not that my hull repairs are anything to worry about at this level, but why bother donating uneccisary credits to the wild black yonder.

Even as a 30% extra hull person, you still have unused shield amps and restorers, saves you some time if you dont feel like being at the computer all day(which i do not) most GL players only log in a few times a day, just enough for npcs to respawn a few times :)

You should make enough money that hull repairs are negilible, but its time thats invaluable(also since artifacts cannot be publicly traded, might as well use them)

Naah Noc doesn't have any "unused" anything on his ship. Damn thing is such a goliath that he easily can have the full compliment of guns, defense mods, decks and sheilds w/o any problems. I'm sure he eats bosses for breakfast.

We need like a triple hull like the oil tankers have. That way if one gets breached then you still have others. Woooooo, what about a convoy? Maybe something you could add to and protect? The ships would increase certain stats but then they could also be attacked. So you would have to guard them.

Yeah, with shield amps, it makes shield rather attractive. I don't sit behind computer playing GL all day/night as well so shield serves nicely. I do have 4800ish hull and 1750 shield but with amps, it is 3500 so it's good one during seldom log-ins to play to kill some NPCs.. Hull rocks during emergency time or war time.

I don't know if anyone has tried this, but what if you can get defense and shield up so high that shields regenerate faster than anyone could deal damage? Such that defense reduces the damage to single digits and the shield generates that much every second?

It's no way for shield to regenerate faster than your damage intake if there is no wait time on attack button.. I empty out hull AND shield often before shield tick hits.. against NPCs especially epic ones.. Of course, I can't do that against players simply cuz I almost always get trapped and it stops right there heh.

Provided you have enough attack, some NPCs can be killed quickly and Provided you have enough defense, hull and replenishment artifacts, you can have minimal to no wait between repairing hull which can make maximum use of your +xp artifacts - killing NPCs is the most efficient way of leveling up. It can have higher exp to energy ratio than most missions. Wasn't really my intention to level up really fast the last few days, I only wanted to explore NPCs.
