All cloak, scan and energy. And get yourself a few good mining planets because at low ranks so many people retaliate against hackers with disables you'll be paying for a lot of repairs.

Just in case you don't catch my tone, I don't recommend going with a hacker specific build for your ship. Cloaks and Scanners take so much deckspace, you won't have room for any decent weapons. You won't have enough cargo space to store them offline while you are hacking. And without weapons, hull, and defense, you'll be missing out on a LOT of great drops from NPCs because you won't be capable of killing them very much. I managed to get on the leaderboard for hacks even with an early-game guns heavy approach and a mid-game balanced approach. I run only "special" cloaks and scanners and can still hack about 50-60% of my PvP list at any given time.

Good luck with that.... At low ranks you will not have near enough decks for a balanced ship, so don't even try. Again, using my own ship as an example, I focused on Guns, Energy and Hull for a long time. Maybe till around 300 or so. Then I started adding Defense and Shields as my deckspace allowed. I have scanner research maxed, but still need about 500 decks to install them all. Researched cloak is the last thing I'm going to bother installing since it has the least utility for me. All it does is hide you from ships your own size while bigger ships (with more scan) can still see you. They will take the easy kill in a heartbeat, and there is little you can do in response. With my current build, maximizing guns, maxed hull, shield and defense, and no researched cloak, the only people I still get attacks from are those that are significantly higher than me.

Focus on energy and planetary buildings. This isn't a suggestion. This is law.

I will have to disagree with Darth. Its a fact that most of your targets will retaliate.. and thats why you should focus on cloak/hull/def. Even on my rank(135) i hardly ever see people with scan modules, so you dont need so much cloak to be successful. Just make sure to hack with 0 research points in your bank(so you dont need scan for the really small chance of counter-hack).
Put your rank points into decks and equip all 5 hulls, with as many def modules as possible and maximum one researchable cloak module. Get the Zolazin Jammers as fast as possible and always hack with a dark pyramid. Choose your targets wisely(hack people from weaker legions.. so you will not be alerted even if you "farm" them). And get 3xCipherBots first :)

Thank you someone who has given be advice towards my game style, rather then turning my style into PvP OR NPC!

By disagreeing, you actually prove my point. You don't really NEED to have uber cloak to be successful hacking. But by stacking tons of defense on a low rank ship, you leave no room for quality weapons. Thereby eliminating yourself from effective NPC runs which give tremendous rewards. At low ranks, repairs are cheap, so take a disable in retaliation for your hack. Big deal. Now you have an opportunity to get several MORE badges if you have the guns to get the reds as well as blue badging a KNOWN source.

Rakarth, I'm not trying to turn you away from your chosen style, I'm giving you experienced advice to help you LONG-TERM.

ZJs are a good early game boost for hacking and hiding on the BT. I would hesitate putting rank points into eengineers, but it is ok until your researched cores give an energy to decks ratio over 1. At that point you would better off using that last rank point for a deck or tactical oficers.

Please excuse any typos, my ffingers are too fat for my toucchscreen phone.... lol

Basically. For a hacker/missioner (what I'd call a casual player)

Research energy and defence, and then planet structures.

Energy = more rank up bonus AND relays give a recharge bonus (not great until you get tier 3 or so).
Defence = harder to hit back.
Planets = more research and artis!

It'll be impossible to NOT NPC - that's where all the best modules are (even hack modules).

I'd say, for you, you'll want (after rank 25 or so?) 3 reactors, 2 guns, 2 defences, 2 hulls, and anything else you can fit on.
Also, zolazin jammers and stryll transponders are invaluable at lower ranks.

One last thing, join a good legion with research focussed base. A good lvl4 will give you several thousand RP a day, giving you a massive boost.

I'd better change that "good" part to "excellent".
Lvl 5 base I think? 15K ish research? Strm"The Tank"avenger as the leader - he'll push you into PvP.

Seriously though, getting the start right is what counts.
4 decks 1 engineer per rank works quite well, until reactors get better than 1:3 ratio (Quantum capacitor level).
PvP is a breeze at low ranks - and special mods are what make up most of my "hack" section. 777 cloak and 466 scan at rank 200, and I have an 80% win, for both detection and hacks. Except from the rank 300+ people who's planets I take.

My ship is almost evenly balanced out with energy being the heaviest. Attack second, defense third, cloak 4th, & scan 5th.
