Most of you probably know this already, but the current way your combat reputation is determined goes like so:
-50 or -more Laughable
-49 to -40 Feeble
-39 to -30 Weak
-29 to -20 Passive
-19 to 10 Balanced
11 to 20 Harmful
21 to 40 Dangerous
41 to 80 Deadly
81 to 160 Menacing
161 to 320 Savage
321 or more Insane

Now, this means someone who has 10321 kills and 10000 deaths is Insane. While his kills may be so, his combat reputation isn't exactly as good.

I propose that the combat reputation's higher statuses be changed from set differences between kills/disables and changed to be dependent upon a kill disable ratio. Statuses Laughable to Deadly could stay the same as they are currently, however once a player reaches a 2:1 KDR, they will gain the status Menacing. Once a player reaches (if possible) a 3.5:1 KDR (or perhaps just 3:1 or 4:1), they will receive a Savage reputation. Upon reaching a 5:1 KDR, an Insane status will be obtained. In addition, many people have been wishing for a rep beyond Insane, so if you reach a 10:1 KDR you could achieve another status (Deity?).

This would make an Insane reputation relatively hard to get, and the proposed rep a true accomplishment.

Of course, I do not have High-rank experience, so changing the reputations to these ratios has the possibility of making them challenging to achieve or maintain, so perhaps the ratios could be changed to make it more fair for players of all ranks, because I can fairly easily tell that as-is it would be balanced more towards lower ranks.

In addition, having one of the better KDRs could lead to more legion alerts. This could mean that you either have to pick your targets carefully, or perhaps Dan could implement a system where disables from someone who cannot obtain a badge from you does not count on your combat record (and perhaps they do not get a kill?).

Thoughts, ideas, changes, suggestions?

[Credit goes to Cyborgfromhell for providing the basic framework of the idea and the proposed "Deity" reputation.]

You not even level 30 but you strut around here like you know something. Who gives a rats ass about your rep.

For sakes. The guy is offline and you have the energy you can kill him.

My thought is that it does nothing to make Combat Reputation anything other than a statement of how well you farm kills. Combat rep to me is a completely meaningless status symbol. It provides no bonus, no penalty and has no bearing whatsoever on how good a ship you have or how well you PvP. Give me 10 null fuses and a stock of trap probes and I can get 25-30 red badges off my battle tab with 0 retaliation. Would that make me a good PvPer? No. It just means I caught 25-30 people weaker than me with minimal traps when they were offline. A good PvPer is someone that can take out someone of comparable strength while they are online and trapping which takes a lot more energy, speed and skill, or someone that can hold off 2 or 3 comparable or stronger players during an attack and still fight back. A truly good PvP player won't have enormous kill numbers. Those go to farmers.

Like I said in the post, I don't know how it is in the higher ranks, or even the mid-ranks or upper lower ranks. I've just seen some opinions on it (from admittedly lower ranks) and put the suggestion up here. I didn't know it would be so poorly received, so I'll just let it die.

from a lot of what I see lower ranks are the ones that worry the most about having an insane combat rep. I didn't really care back then because I really had no one in my legion to teach me about the best ways to play the game so until around rank 150ish I had a laughable rep and a handfull of kills, with over 200 deaths it took some effort to get that reversed but I did. To me that means more then a combat rep title. So this suggestion really make much to me either way.

if you want to improve combat rep, just ask for more reputations, or ask to make the needed amount of kills even higher (say something like 500 more kills than deaths for insane, making it harder than getting 321, and more worth the reputation)

edit : i think trying to work in a ratio for everyone would be difficult to code into the game

And still, it means nothing... "Better" combat rep just means you're a better farmer. I don't know of anybody over rank 200 that actually cares about combat rep because they've realized it means squat. If somehow you factor in rank differential or ship-strength differential, then it MAY actually have some bearing as a badge of honor (nothing more), but until something like that happens (which I doubt ever will) take some OCD medication and forget about combat rep.

People are suicidal for ages now. Change the reputation this way and you won't be able to get a single kill when people are off-line. That'd be something.

Amen to that. That's uncalled for. Take the stick out of your ass and allow free thought from any level. There's no such thing as bad ideas...new ones are gained from seeds like this. -10,000 respect points
