I was thinking about it and most higher ranked (like 300+) probably have so many planets in their list (from star charts) that they can't scan even with max tech scanners equipped. Since the star charts only reveal unoccupied planets, I'm assuming that's where a lot of the "universe growth" comes into play. Anyway, they can't scan an occupied planet anymore, which means less competition with lower rank players (whose planets are probably inferior anyway). There is one exception: a legion of high ranked players with a few lower rank players can get planets from the shared data, but that's going to have its limitations too. Purgers are rarer than star charts, so one would tend to accumulate new empty planets to a point of no return (to normal scanning).

There is a mission to get purgers , you can do it unlimited times.

I don't really see anyone wasting that much energy to purge the amount of planets they would need to scan again.

I would, I have 36 of them on hand and just used 20 the other day I will most likely Use the rest of them before I start my next scan blitz. I have yet to unlock the last tier of scanners and won't get the for a while do to other models I would rather have. Such as hull and shield. If I could get another 30 or 40 of them before I unlock the next scanner I will be able to get that many new worlds in my planet list. That would be a huge help even if the worlds I get rid of are the same as the new worlds I would get just because the chances are I would be able to get at least three or four great worlds out of that.

Oh people do, i know a few guys who have maxxed out scanning research and are now with the best scanners/most buffs at very low %s. That mission is a godsend to them, if they want new planets efficiently they have to repeat that mission.

Most of high ranked players don't waste their time/energy on the purger mission. They cheat and have a multis to provide them with new planets. No one is absolutely doing anything about it. You can still report it to FB, nothing will happen. you never had someone in your legion quitting for a few minutes? Saying he has to do a planet deal or something?


It's been 4 months I have researched max scans. Instead of doing the mission, I decided to store my artifacts (since now you can't get your stacks loot by raid). I currently have 22 Alien star charts, 35 Purgers.

I'll wait until I get 200 purgers ... Yeah cause that's what I need basically for another scan blitz. The price to pay when you play fair ... 6 months of waiting ... 200 new planets scanned, perhaps 1 or 2 really worth it.

Well to be honest I don't think you should wait with the "Alien Star Charts". I don't know if it's luck (my karma is quite bad with NPC spawns/drops so...) but out of four used this far I got a very large barren mining rich, a large volcanic mining extremely rich, an average terran artifact ultra rich and a massive ocean research extremely rich. If you ask me it's three out of four "good" planets, although the barren isn't horrible. Sure I'd want 3 out of 4 extremely rare planets but then again my last two scans from 99 to 20% netted me 2-3 "good" planets and 2-3 "so-so" planets (masive/very massive gas with very/extremely abundant research). Obviously it's up to you but if I were you I wouldn't hoard those "Alien Star Charts".

Hey now I'm really high rank and I don't cheat like that. I have 115 world colonized and I will get more today and never once did I cheat like that. I don't even have the highest scan tech yet. This is just because of the alien star charts. They give great worlds sometimes and once you get my rank you get more and more of them to use. So you can make it with out cheating. Sorry I know you said most but I don't even belive that most of the time. You see we are high ranking which means we are richer than the mass of the galaxy. So ya we would spend 2B creds on a worlds easy if the owner agrees. And to a rank 100 or less that is a lot of creds so most of the time they do agree to give one of their decent worlds away for that.

So what are you trying to say ? You guys (I mean high ranked players) don't attack lowbies to take over planets ? Just buy/bribe them ? I'm just curious, I'm not saying that I got attacked. Actually come to think of it I think I would love to propose one of your legion mates a deal. I have one of his planets on scanners and I could make better use of it : )

No if we have a world on our scan and we want it we normally just take it. But if someone says they have a world that they want to sell and its not on our scan list than we'll work out a deal for it. If you have one of our members worlds on your scan list and you want it than take it just know this. We destroy those who take our worlds. If you flux it we will hack you till we get one of yours. I'm sure you are not that high in rank so getting a crit on you wouldn't be all that hard. So before you do this just know what you are getting into. Trying to make a deal with us for that world would be pointless. I don't think you would have what we ask for it in return. Who knows I could be completely wrong. If so and you think you can make a deal with the player than by all means go for it.

I'm not even talking about that; there's no real defense against being taken at this level, so I just max resources, spread out upgrades, and look at the big picture (total production, minimize exposure risk). I figure the primary planet discovery is from star charts for people with 250+ planets in the list, meaning they don't find inhabited worlds much. Nothing I've found naturally occurring really warrants anyone's attention, and I like to keep it that way. Quantity over quality in other words.

I'm storing my Alien charts for one reason, it's one less purger to use when I will do a next blitz in 2 or 3 months.

Then when I will be ready, I will purge 200 useless planets, I will then scan at max tech max artifacts etc etc ... And then when done with the blitz, I'll use the alien charts.
