No.. No, they don't. I've always assumed the Contract counted on your total spent, but apparently not (Bull #&$# IMO). Having all research completed with an odd total is...odd...then. :?

I think it was 'how it was coded'... When medals came out, everyone was given the research amount they currently had. However, research contract no longer counted after medals came out so anything spent there after the fact is a no-go.

Contract never counted to total research

Weird, I thought Dan said he was adding it... You're right, it was CT-Lab that was added.

Although, your idea might be right, except the switch in "how it was coded" was when Contracts were added, so before that it was however much research you gained, and then right when Contracts were added it was whatever research you spent, so the odd number is the carry-over based on when Contracts were added. Maybe someday we'll see people without that odd amount, people who started after the addition of Contracts and later completed all research.

research contracts never counter to up your total research spent, which I still think is wrong, but never bugged me too much till this medal.

Are you certain that before contracts it was 'however much research you gained'?

It's possible you are correct, but I don't think ODragon ever had a chance to max out his research the way PSICore did, I certainly never did, and research contracts were added pretty early on, they require you having spent 47,500,000 research, all the research available at the time added up to that amount I believe because it was before the final set of energy modules was added, and way way before bases and CT lab..

Well, it matches the amount of research done on the research page so it must be. I had the contract for a long time. Maybe I used it for extra credits at some point? Who knows. I do agree, it is an odd number.

No, that's just the only explanation we've come up with for the odd numbers.

I know; if he had maxed out research back then then he would have a normal looking number either way.

It can't be due to the Research Contracts, I have used research contracts and they do not add to my total, however I have an odd number for my research as well:

My research shows: 166,931,866
I have 19,384,264 left before the top tier base research

that comes to: 186,316,130

I have no Idea how it would be possible to do 130 research, the smallest value is 130. I'm wondering if there was a mission or something I forgot about that required RP or something occasionally????

I checked through the wiki for the total value of research available and it comes to: 178,345,800 (Values over this should be from doing CT Lab)

Right and CT-Lab is multiples of 2k I believe.

Yup, it does, I never hit max research ever, so that completely takes out the Idea this is because of people hitting max research that FerrusMagnus put-forth.

Wow, that is not at all the idea that I put forth. In fact, I believe I specifically stated that couldn't be so already; we should probably give up on figuring it out now, we're just going in circles.

Maybe when your hacked it counts as research spent or when you get research from hacks it counts as research spent. Just throwing out an idea.

that's the first Idea I've heard on the subject that makes any sense! Time to test!

Alright, I believe I have found evidence that ODragon's idea, with my modification, was correct:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2791

Here, Kaos mentions losing his lead on the leaderboard when he finished all the research. If I recall correctly, PSICore (I think, maybe someone else) passed him for research, even though they had both researched everything. If this is an accurate recollection, then the "Total Research Done" calculation must've counted stored research rather than spent research, so PSICore was higher because he had higher research storage.
