Hello,

my second suggestion is about ascending,

once you reach strong enough ship, one should be allowed to sacrifice part of his power to ascend to semi-god status;

this status shouldn't be game breaking, still it should reward the player.

*FIRST sacrifice should be in the form of crew :
- 5000 Engineers
- 5000 Tactical Officers
- 5000 Helmsmen
- 6000 Scientists

*Planets would be kept aswell as Rank.

*Each ascending would yield a permanent 10% to all stats :
- planetary attack, defense, shield, mp, ap, rp
- ship attack, defense, scan, cloak

*Each ascending would cost Twice as much as the previous
second would be 10 000 / 12 000 cost
third would be 20 000 / 24 000 cost

*Ascended being also fight for spiritual realm domination :
The more population they own on their worlds the more "spiritual power" they earn which in turn allow them to cast strong buffs for their ship or planets;
Those buff would require to be researched spending spiritual power.
One could sacrifice research or mining point to increase their spiritual power

*Downside is ship upkeep would climp by 50% per ascending :
- first +50%
- second +100%
- third +150%

*Planet would be subjects to strong entities attacks that only ascended being could fight
*There could be some new and strong monster spawning in Battle tab (which further reduce auto-level ability)

IMPORTANT :
of course all those number could be tweaked, but this give some more stuff to do for long time players without breaking game balance.

Kind of a stupid idea as put forth in so many ways. I'll just point out one major failing though. To give up 5000 helmsmen, engineers, and tactical officers for a permanent 10% bonus would mean you would need over 55,000 defense, energy and attack just to break even on those stats.

meh.... he did include planetary stat, production and defense, as well as scan/cloak.
it's probably worth doing overall if you get to 20-30k ish stats.


BUT, -1 because this is a sci-fi game, i'm rather feed up with reincarnate of any kind from some games i've played, so NEVER

or you could read the last setence (which hold a IMPORTANT note before it) before calling people stupid :

"all those number could be tweaked"

and you could also read that it is not just +10% to SHIP stat but also 10% to planets stats, and also 10% to production and also ascend buffs!

you also missed the fact not all your ship stat come from crew, but also from >modules<

there are tons of people at end game with over 20K of each crew that would be more then pleased with such concept. or you could let people stockpile crew with no aim and enjoy a tastless end game....


edit: @Uy23e you may have missed the fact that Trellith are sort of ascended spiritual being and they give planetary buff (+30%!) this ascending stuff perfectly fit the game

-1 if you 'ascended' what would you need a ship/crew for exactly? you be on another plane of existance not concerned with mortal things, thus needing a whole new game. On the other hand if it reset you but gave you permanent planet buff's and new race and ship, (like a prestige in MW3)

if you ascend you could still have consideration for living beings !? or want to burn to ashes everything around....

if th OP dont call for rank reset, it is probably because it would be too rude for the newcomers........

there are a lot of insights in this idea, i very like it too

It doesn't get much more sci-fi than this, so your wrong.

You could ascend and decide to take on a mortal form again, creating for yourself a more powerful being than you were before, thus giving yourself various boosts and bonuses.
I say +1, iv'e been a fan of ascension ever since i saw it on the StarGate shows.
Adjust the numbers, and you're onto something.
Only problem i can think of is that i think the concept is copyrighted. (ok i can think of a few more problems)

There migh be sic-fi based "ascent" so to speak, but his idea(if you read the detail of), is of mythological kind.
TBH, ascent is REALLY a bad word for the sci-fi theory of such an action, it's only named that to allow the not-so-science-adept ppl enjoy the show instead of calling it with some more technical term that they wont be able to keep track of. the word ascent doesn't describe the actual action.

Well it's not technically copyrighting if the means of ascension are changed. In SG-1, it was established that you must ascend by acheiveing spiritual enlightenment and letting go of the physical world. This guy is saying that we would have to commit genocide in order to achieve it, all for the sake of gaining power and control over the physical world. Whereas in Stargate, it is illegal for ascended beings to interact on our plane of existence.

after reading im still thinkind it would be a good concept i mean once higher ranked ur gonna get bored nd the game has no replay value once that happens nd who wants to waste years of work =P

Yeah, i suppose changing the meaning of it removes the copyright problems. I'ts the concept of what they were doing with it thats copyrighted, not the word. Good point.
And technically, ascended beings are only prohibited from interacting in our galaxy, in the ori galaxy however (seasons 8 and out) they interact frequently with our realm. either directly, or indirectly, trough the priors, not to mention the fact that they are forcing an entire galaxy to worship them so they can drain power from them.
And there are also certain rules in place, though never described in detail, that allow them to interact to some extent. Something they do on several occasions.

Yeah, your right about that, i stand corrected.
In this post, the author wrote about Ascension of the spiritual form.
However, in Stargate its a physical and scientific theory, to which they used a spiritual name.
I believe you are correct about the reason why they used the phrase "Ascension", to appeal to the people who are not so into science.

But we're getting sidetracked.
Getting back to the original basis for the post, after thinking about the details for a while, and pondering every comment, i'd say it has potential, but a lot of work needs to be done to make it more applicable to the game. It also needs simplification, so as to allow more people to understand it, because its really very complicated as is.
All in all, its something new to be added to the game, which, lets face it, the game desperately needs. Though, to many people, it may not be the best direction to take the game, its better than doing nothing.
Come up with better suggestions for something new to be added to the style of the game at a higher level, and introduce new content to the long-term players,(which, i think we can all agree, is where the game is lacking the most content) and im happy to listen to you.
Now, im not just talking about making more of the same old stuff we already have, NPC's, Missions, new PVP stuff, which is all fun, and good, and we can always use more of it, but what im talking about is bringing something entirely new to the game, something that could potentially change the game completely and save it from the rut its in right now.
Most of the higher lvls quit because of a lack of change and new content. I'm starting to get bored with it myself, and im still a bit away from 1k, i cant even imagine how the top 20 feel...

Point is, we need new content, something to save the game, so to speak.
Sorry for the long post, but its late here in Norway. and im getting sleepy, and for some reason my mind becomes very active when i'm sleepy.
Anyway, i think ive given you something to think about, so consider it.
