just went thru the previous forum threads back to august of last year (and Darth F was flogging his horse in every single one !). here are the two that stood out to me (i.e. didn't devolve into nahnahnahnah):
for those that are interested in more variety in the combat rep stat besides insane / laughable (we know Darth, you think it's useless - well i think rank is useless too, but people still focus on it), here's my suggestion:
Yep... And I'm going to keep flogging that horse every time someone starts a thread suggesting more combat reps. Which is usually about every 2 weeks. That is, until people realize how meaningless that statistic is, and stop worrying about it. As I've said several times already... Combat Reputation has absolutely no bearing on how good a ship is. How likely you are to hit traps. How likely you are to get retaliation. Prime example is Firespray. You know... The guy at the top of the Kills leaderboard... He has a 5440/321 Kill-Death ratio. He ran Halcyon traps for MONTHS. Running one right now as a matter of fact. I'm ranked 50 on the kills list, with an Insane reputation. Not because I'm some PvP master or because my ship is any better than anyone else's. I'm there because I need red badges for a Dominion Cannon and base scanning. So I farm my Battle Tab. I freely admit it. And I don't decide to skip someone because "oh they're insane, they'll hit me back" or because "they're laughable so they'll have a Halcyon Trap." I determine my targets based on 3 things. Race/Profession (Lazuli/Xecti Fixers get skipped), Action Count, and Active Traps.
As for Rank being useless, I have to agree. To a certain point. If you look at all the top legions, and many midrank legions as well, they have a minimum rank to join. Some are because they are interested in leaderboard position (stupid reason IMO) but some (such as The Unknown) want to fill their empty slots with like-ranked ships. A majority of our legion is ranked 350-650. We look at requests and fill our slots with that rank range and above so that we can help with your Elite/Boss NPCs. Why would we take someone at rank 200 when we can't give you support on NPCs that none of us can see?
Perhaps just once in a while you low-ish rank, less experienced players should actually listen to those of us that have been around for a while and have "been there, done that."
