 A use for ship-bots

I know at higher ranks, these once highly prized artifacts become a pain in the proverbial so perhaps another use for them...

Bases are surely just like enornous ships, and I like the idea that these little robots run across the surface of the base patching up little holes, so how about players can put a bot to work on the base repairing a small amount of hull. It could done by anyone, regardless of the rules only allowing officers to repair the hull (as it's using the players own resources, not the bases credits) making it useful if you are being attacked and there is no officers on.

I cannot suggest how much hull would be repairable, because I have limited experience, and don't know how much hull or attack higher bases see, or how many shipbots you can build up between attacks. I dont want to make is too difficult to attack though so each repair should be quite low. Say a couple of hundred each? The repair could perhaps be doubled if not targeted too (perhaps all the poor little blighters get picked off by attackers before finishing their job).

Cue input from higher rank players to tweek the numbers...

I like the idea of a CT lab item that looks like:

x number Ship-Bots
x number Repair Nano's
x number Nanite Swarm Capsules

Increases the number of Hulls you can install by 1 for 2 days. Limit 3 extra hulls installed.

It would be best to have a buff from it since if it was a mod. then people would be right back were they started.


Ship Bots, Shield Amps, Nanite Swarms would be better to use, as repair nano's are harder to find if your pvping.

Perhaps:
10 Ship Bots
50 Shield Amps
50 Nanite Swarms
5 Repair Nano
5 Shield Restorers

For 1 day you get 100% hull and Shield. And the extra hull and shield are already set to 100%

Tweak the numbers to fit the situation.

Only 10? The point of the suggestion was to provide a use for the huge stock of them people seem to amass at higher levels. I wasn't going for any CTL designs or any new artifacts. No boosts or bonuses or temporary buffs. Nothing more complicated than a button on the base screen that lets you use a shipbot to restore some hull. Not every problem requires something so complicated to resolve.

This wouldn't be a mod per say, but an option to install a mod. After the 48 hour timer ran out, one of your hulls would uninstall and you would need to use the ct lab again to get the ability to reinstall it. This would continuously cycle the bots.

Yea... just a little perturbed. I thought the convention was that one person makes a suggestion, then others (dis)approve, comment on, and possibly offer ways it can be tweeked to improve it. What seems to have happened here is, someone made a suggestion and two others posted, making no reference to the original and putting forward an almost entirely different suggestion. Thought that was generally called hijacking...

hum I'm all for ship bot uses I'm thinking more that you can use ship bots to upgrade a base hull and shields like a exo clamp.

not sure how some bases would ever go down if that were the case though
