 Red Badges

As an active PvPer, I've had a relatively steady income of Red Badges. I don't have all the badges that I need for the four Dominion Auto-Blasters yet, but once I do, I'm more than likely going to continue PvPing. My issue is, once I have all of the highest level Dominions in, the only other use for Red Badges is base scanning, and that's only 2-5 Reds at a time. I think there should be another use for Red Badges, like a Planetary structure. If you get all four Dominion Cannons, Mark IIs, Mark IIIs, and the Auto-Blasters, it adds up to a total of 1696 Red Badges, and if you wait and only get the Mark IIIs and Auto-Blasters it's 1248 Red Badges. Anything beyond this is useless unless you scan multiple bases per day, and/or buy extra Dominion Cannons to scrap for the CTPs.

Anyways, the point is, I think there should be a Planetary structure, something like this:

Dominion Defense Network [60 Red Badges]
Size 2, Attack:800, Defense:800, Population:100 (Choice Production:2)
Limit: 2 Per Planet
All bonuses double if used on a 'New Colony' that you recently invaded.

It could also be upgraded into something like this:

Dominion Siege Garrison Upgrade [72 Red Badges]
Upgrades an existing Dominion Defense Network on your planet to a Dominion Siege Garrison, giving an additional 10% overall attack and defense bonus, and an additional +2 production.
*Requires 500 Medal Points

Something like this would be cool, and I'm sure other PvPers would agree.

Most of the heavy PVPers I know are basers too, and we burn through reds plenty fast scanning for bases. Too many glass or fully loaded 15 fixer 6s out there to simply scan once and lock, and if you're seriously basing (meaning 3 bases a day minimum), you'll use them up easily enough.

If that's not clear, reds are already valuable enough, I don't crave another use for them. Yellows and blues though? Something else for those would be good.

once you start actively scanning for bases ... your plentiful supply of reds will quickly shrivel.

I'm curious as what you mean by a steady income of Red Badges? At rank 1200+, when I want to PVP heavily, I can get easily 30 Red Badges in a single game session. And if I get stubborn, I've can get 50 in a day. That's despite the lower pool of ships on my BT and the high # of halcs I hit.

blues and yellows have a planet structure.. reds do not.. this would be a good addition and it feels close to properly priced as well

132 reds for a size 2 arti 4 structure with bonuses to attack and defense.. might be a tad much.. if it boosted production by 1 and gave the %bonus I think that would be a little more reasonable.

Honestly the heist center sucks. I got my protean armories long ago and have 450 yellow badges collecting dust. An upgrade to the armories like the Dominion Blasters and Frame Sentries would be great.

I multi-raid constantly so they're naturally low because of that. For me it's an average of 1 yellow per 10 or so raids. Plus I don't have nearly the amount of raids as you.

Although the Silthion Hybrid Cluster drops an artefact that gives a passive attack to a base, red badges should be able to either give a small passive attack boost to a base (+10 but costing 50 red badges), or a item that gives a % bonus to the attack on a random base turret (but with double the % increase in upkeep, costing maybe 200 red badges).

To the original post, for the garrison upgrade increase the cost in reds to 100 at the least. the amount of % based effect buildings we can get mean that these should cost a balanced amount.

As for more blue/yellow ideas...

* Counter-Intelligence Network Upgrade
Doubles the research production on a Counter-Intel Nexus, +500 cloak and +5% cloak bonus to the planet. If a Zolazin, Spy or Hacker when used it grants a bonus +200 cloak and a further +3% Cloak bonus. Costs 72 Blue badges.

* Binary Protocols
Adds a 10% increase to the cloak value of a Cipherbot or a Decryption Quad/Senary Frame while increasing the upkeep by 20%, to a maximum of +100% cloak. Note that the Hacking Bonus of the Cipherbot does not increase. Costs 25 Blue Badges.

* Celestial Beacon
Planet building, size 3, +3,000 Invasion defence, Limit 2 per planet. Costs 350 Blue badges.

* Defiance-class Launcher
An external module, launching small but deadly mines at attacking ships
Ship Module, size 16, +300 attack, +250 hull, limit 4 per ship. With 4 installed, when attacked has a chance of launching a mine, causing an additional 750 damage to enemy ship. Costs 150 yellow badges each.

* Conquest-Class Turret
Incorporates a turret into a planet, granting 100 passive attack, to a maximum of 2,000 passive attack. Costs 40 yellow badges.

you have a pathetic time PvPing then... a stubborn run is 50 badges... i can get 50 badges per rank ATLEAST, and thats only about 90 -120 minutes of playing...
rank 1K so were seeing the same people for the most part.

As much as I would like to see a use for badges, I feel like they are like research, part of the "old game". some relic of the past that occasionally has a use but for the most part is becoming outdated. They evolved into a second use (scanning for bases and credits) and that is what they shall remain. Badges got a kick up when medals came out a 13 months ago, but nothing since.

And I was not even on the kills board a month ago, so I must be doing something right to pass you in the last couple of weeks. Plus, I'll PPV for an hour at the most a day(as RL have demanded more of my GL time lately). How is that for "pathetic"?

oh wow.. :roll: heres the amazing part, i dont care for PvP as much as you may think. i reached ~35 on the kills board and hadnt even realized it. i do PvP for badges and when i see someone i have on KOS. im not PvP driven, im much happier stealing planets. i just happen to have a good att and def because of that.

I'd like to see a further use for greens as well, the Locus is mining, which becomes useless at a certain point, and 15 green badges for a size 2, 4 mining 200 pop structure is horrible.
That is at least 2 weeks of taking planets for something that is barely useful.
No thanks, i'd rather save my greens.

You are right, good point. I forgot it doubles if you use it on a "new Colony" planet.

Still, i wouldn't call it great, i'd say its decent at best as it is still mining, which to most mid- to high-rankers.. Is just barely useful. And the pop/size ratio of 200/1, is not worth the 15 badges it takes to build and upgrade it.
Not in my opinion anyway.

However, even if that structure was incredible, i'd still want something new for greens.

But of course, Dans latest post says new Badge stuff is coming in June, so you never know, there could be something fantastic there.
