Scientists can be recruited with using Rank Points. Each scientist increases your hourly research rate by 1, and each rank point spent recruits 3 scientists.
You can also get Android Scientists from the artifact of the same name. One Android Scientist increases research rate by 4 (in fact, it does so by recruiting 4 normal scientists, which help your success rate in raiding).
The following missions also give artifacts that can be used to increase the number of scientists in your crew:
- The Kronyn Exodus (5th mission in the Kronyn Chain, which starts with Anomalous Appearance unlocked at rank 5)
- Decrypting The Vault (Unlocks at rank 175)
- Suspicious Construction (3rd mission in the Lazuli Chain, which starts at rank 190 with A Syndicate Trap)
- Prototype Engineering (Unlocks at rank 200)
Scientists are included in your ship's crew that will help you in raiding enemy ships, and also help defend your ship from enemy raids.
