Mission Briefing
Standard Mission Length: 3 days
As evidence mounts, the sabotage appears to be the work of the Stryll. Tasril proposes a plan to travel through a dangerous region of space to reach the Gartith Nebula, a location where the Strazi, and the saboteur, are likely to be found.
- Note: This is a Phase 2 legion mission which is automatically initiated upon successful completion of the opening legion mission The Ardyne Sabotage.
Rewards (If Sucessful): 5 Relic Badges (awarded to all ships with completed, non-failed tasks)
(FAILURE THREAT): This Mission has one or more tasks that may automatically fail, check notes.
Comm Log
Tasril: I've reviewed your planetary scan data.
You: Good. Any revelations?
Tasril: Seems our saboteur was in quite a hurry. There were small, empty genome enhancement tubes left on the surface of one of the toxics nearby
You: Wait. Aren't those used by the Stryll?
Tasril: Yes... and the assembled bomb fragments paint a similar picture.
You: What did you learn from them?
Tasril: We spoke with the Alarri Consortium. Given your prior interaction with them, they were willing to provide some details on the weapons that were used.
You: The Alarri? I'm suprised to hear that Valthken would provide anything without earning a profit.
Tasril: Don't be too surprised. They were quite insistent on payment.
You: So, did their intel provide any answers?
Tasril: A great deal. The charges are definitely of Stryll origin. They are a modified versions of a design they use for smaller, precision targets. Assassinations. But... these are the design of the Strazi.
You: The Strazi? Are they part of The Order?
Tasril: Yes, but they operate as an elite, secretive branch. Their genetic makeup is quite different - far more experimental. Other than that, there is little else both your government and the Ardyne leaders know about them.
You: Where does this leave us?
Tasril: Our priorities haven't changed. The nexus remains at serious risk as long as we remain in the dark about their methods.
You: That is true. The Stryll will return to finish their contract.
Tasril: And we'll need to step up our patrols in the meantime.
You: Any other leads?
Tasril: Yes. Upon further examination of the genome tubes, it appears they were lined with Xendrium. A curious choice, given its rarity.
You: If they are using Xendrium, then there's a good chance they are refining it themselves.
Tasril: Xendrium is found within dense asteroid fields inside class CF nebulae. I've already reviewed the charts.
You: Any matching systems?
Tasril: The most likely match is the Gartith Nebula. It's remote, and the stars there are very young. It wouldn't be a viable location for colonists, but it would be a good place for the Strazi to hide.
You: That is deep past enemy borders. Getting there won't be easy.
Tasril: If you want to get to Gartith undetected, there are a few tricks that the new gateway can offer.
You: Such as?
Tasril: We've made some temporary modifications to the gateway for the egress aperture. It should give ships using the gateway an extra window of time to avoid detection as they leave the border... until our enemies learn of it and compensate.
You: How does it work exactly?
Tasril: When the aperture is opened, the gateway releases a flux pulse stream through the aperture into the direction of the nebula. The pulse stream can travel quite far, but we have to leave the aperture open in order to maintain it. Some ships will need to stay behind to transfer power to the emitters.
You: And our ships will travel along the stream?
Tasril: Exactly. We can't leave the stream running indefinitely, though. Eventually it will be detected. That would put the entire gateway at risk.
You: Understood
Tasril: In addition, the stream is extremely sensitive. Ships that are traveling to Gartith cannot use any devices which may disturb its flux pattern.
You: No chart purging, no flux devices. Got it.
Tasril: Assuming the Strazi are there, you'll need to strike fast. While you may not find the saboteur specifically, data from their systems should be enough to provide answers as to how to protect ourselves from further incursions.
You: I'll begin assigning the team now.
Tasril: Good luck, commander.
End Transmission
Tasks
Task 1: Engage the Strazi
(FAILURE THREAT)
Enter the Ardyne Flux Stream, and search the Gartith system for Strazi activity.
- Note: Must be at least Rank 250 to start this task.
Task Type NPC Hunt
Requires: Disable or Receive a Disable Reward from 3 Strazi Combatants
Rewards: 1 Strazi Oculix
ship DEVICE: size: 30, scan: 60, defense: 100. If this weapon is already installed on your ship, this will instead upgrade its stats by 40%, up to a max of 200%. When fully upgraded, it provides a 2% cloak bonus.
Scrap Value: 7 - 13 ctp. Upkeep: 462.5M credits per day.
- Note: As stated in the description using: star chart purgers, temporal flux orbs, or planet fluxes; during the mission will AUTOMATICALLY FAIL this task, even if the task has already been completed successfully. Using flux probes or flux probe - tracers will NOT fail the task.
- Top 3 damagers on the alerted NPC, plus the one who deals the last hit/disables it (a total of 4 progresses per one combatant), will get credit if they have started the task, making a group effort more appealing.
- It is possible for a high ranked player to find several combatants and alert them all during the course of the legion mission as long as they have yet to complete their task.
- Regarding the above paragraph, it is not only possible but usually necessary, as lower ranks will struggle to find the combatants given their rarity.
- Note: If a mistake is made and someone hits the combatant and should not have, the situation may still be salvageable. Suppose Ship 1 and Ship 2 both hit the combatant for 150k damage each. Ship 3 hits the combatant and should NOT have. They do 70k damage before realizing they shouldn't have gotten on. That leaves 80k damage left that still needs to be done. Ship 4 comes on and does 79k damage, leaving 1k hull left. Ship 5 can finish the remaining damage and 4 ships will still get progress: Ship 1,2,4, and 5. This is possible because Ship 4's damage was higher than ship 3 and the ship that deals the last hit/disables it always gets credit.
Task 2: Patrol and Secure the Ardyne System
Until data is collected from the Strazi, the nexus remains at risk of another sneak attack. Scan and patrol the Ardyne system for any Stryll activity.
- Note: Must be at least Rank 50 to start this task.
Task Type NPC Hunt
Requires: Disable 30 standard ships from 'The Stryll Order'
Rewards: 3 Relic Badges (on completion)
Task 3: Transfer Power to Stream Emitters
Maintaining a constant flux pulse stream will require a massive amount of power. The emitters will need many power transfers to operate at peak levels throughout the mission.
- Note: Must be at least Rank 80 to start this task.
Task Type Mission
Requires: 700 Energy, 2 Relay Tower Chassis (20 rounds)
Completion Requirement: 14,000 Energy, 40 Relay Tower Chassis (Total)
Rewards: 250 xp per round, 1 Ardyne Transfer Conduit (on completion)
planet STRUCTURE: size: 1, artifact: 1, mining: 2, research: 1, cloak: 200, limit: 1. If the planet has a gateway nexus link (from Task 1 of The Ardyne Sabotage) when this is built, this structure's bonuses are doubled. Can not be extracted by a Mylarai Build Extractor.
Models of Success
The following table shows the kind of participation/progress shown to get varying types of success chances. Please note, This is a work in progress and data is in process of being collected (see forum topic).
There may be instances where it seems like there is a big gap in the number of ships on a task. This is not necessarily a requirement, only the most current data available. There may also be different combinations of spread that bring these chances. Partial completions also may be factored in these cumulative requirements. Alternate combinations will be recorded and posted as well in an effort to record the minimum amount needed for varying chances.
