Once every (year? half-year? month?), a link appears to join a Universal Boss released by the developer on the news feed. This boss has no limit as to how many people can gain rewards from it and is open to the entire community. There is no maximum damage, there is no lock. There is simply a timer on it stating how much time is left to do as much damage as physically possible.

Damage tiers can be reached, and each tier gives a new reward on top of the previous tiers, in the following format:

Tier 1: Reward 1
Tier 2: Reward 1, Reward 2
Tier 3: Reward 1, Reward 2, Reward 3 (etc)

New medal line can also be added, for total damage on the Universal Bosses, which could possibly give ship designs (based on salvaged parts from the downed boss?) or other components. The total damage would be concatenated with previous damages.

Not perfect, but has merit. Needs a little balancing with the whole no-max-damage part. Make the tiers harder to get to ( 1=1000, 2=5000, 3=15000 etc.).

By no max damage, I mean there's no upper limit on how much you can do, simply because there is no hull or shield to max it out.

Naturally however, there would be a top damage tier. How difficult those are, I'll leave up to the community with more experience to determine, as I cannot judge those damages.

maybe if was made with a hull of somewhere in region of 300mil.. shields 100mil
with damage caps at:
10k, 100k and max damage of 1 mil.
for each tier

also make it like a monthly boss.
and a fail....to kill debuff...... of say.. -15% damage... timespan 2 weeks... for whole server.

this would invite coop takedowns. and still allow large majority players to get on it.

Trust me, it has been done in other games and the inner vanity of the top few comes out. You may not need to do more than a certain point for the best rewards, but some people still will. Not that that is in any way a negative to Rarek's idea in the first place lol.

As to the rest of that, why would there need to be a negative effect? No other boss or event has any long term negative effect.

Also, why add a set amount of hull/shield to it? The point is to allow everyone to hit if they want to. Having a set health on it would let a couple people kill it as soon as it was created and no one would get anything from it. Waste of a month long wait period.

I think the whole community would be a problem... remember what happens when too many big guns hit at once?

However... multi legion "Super-Bosses" would be cool. Can share to your BP partners.

Well that's the thing. Since there is no maximum health to kill the boss before the time limit, you could have a million big guns hit as much as they want and it would still only expire after a certain amount of time. That's the beauty of it, allowing anyone to hit as much damage as they like to get the rewards.

He's talking about the lag that happens when too many people are clicking versus one specific object. There was still complaints of lag when TU, GP, Dyso and EotS would hit a base. Imagine 20x that amount of focused clicking.
