Due to lack of a formal market system, I am interested in having a standing trade legion where people can drop by and buy or sell goods, items, and planets. I imagine something like a Hub for trade. In order for that to work, it would need a representative from each partner legion who collects trade goods from their parent legion. For goods (like exotic or tech parts) and sendable items, this person would either move between the parent legion and the trade legion to get the goods, or stay in the trade legion and have their friends from parent legion send the goods to them (which is preferred). For planets, the representative would arrange a deal and the buyer and seller would meet in the trade legion (generally, sellers need to stay for 24h for the share timer to be ready before the buyer is invited so the deal can proceed quickly; only unoccupied planets will be sold). I can host a trade page that gets updated daily with any format that works for coordinating this, and perhaps do escrow services between parties. This is the best setup I can come up with until we get an actual inter-legion trading system for GL, and can also double as a diplomatic channel between legions. Imagine something like a Galactic Senate. If I could get about 10 legions from the top 50 to participate to start with, we would have something; we could also create a charter or whatever (for example, don't invade people while you are here).

This sounds interesting, and I agree there is a lack of commerce outlets in the game as written, so we can make our own somehow. I want more information about how this hub would work, as it seems like the described method is a bit unwieldy. I think it better to have a forum for making trades, and then legion contact be made directly to do the exchanges. Otherwise alerts would be a nightmare, and those of us in the top 10 are often engaged on conflict, so it would destroy the ability to defend ourselves adequately and leave our legions missing often key members. Is there a way this could be worked around while still maintaining the same level of communication and trade?

Well, what we need is a place to put the buy/sell requests; I have been working on adding something like that to my site, but it's difficult to match orders right now. You can't always comm an arbitrary person who posted an order to facilitate the trade easily. Without an in-game mechanism, the structure of it is still under debate. If it can be done without a separate legion, that would be easier of course.

OK there is sort of an ulterior motive to encourage Dan to add a market to the game, by creating a somewhat efficient market system on our own. I actually don't expect a lot of the top optimized legions to do it, since they hoard their own artifacts and planets, but it definitely increases efficiency for others in the top 50 to band together. There are two ways to do it, one is a separate legion (which seems to be unpopular), and one is just a FB chat among people that can arrange trades with each other in game across friendly legions. I've created a group for this.

i had a similar idea months ago and started "the black market" for trading of planets and items it worked well with friends but i never started my own legion with the sole intent of that. however an idea occured to me darth and a few high lvl players are making a npc slaying legion just for ppl who cant kill it with ther legion or want more ppl on it. if we get that started i can facilitate trade while i'm there i.e u come in and trade with me and then the other party comes in and picks up whats his and drops off whats owed. that way u can (with the exception of planets) come in quick and then leve and help your legion. i've done it before so i have expirience with this and it would give me something to do with the majority of time im waiting to refill my energy. if we use teh gl trade page as a bidding sort of thing then it would work even better. to use a antiquited term i'm teh grand exchange from runescape ( yea yea i play)
