The Badging Age, or A Young Captain's PVP* PrimerThis is intended as a quick reference for captains confused by the sudden intrusion of a PVPer.You've just been assaulted by some other ship for some unknown reason. What is going on and what should you do about it? What's going on:- There is a battle market consisting of many desirable items, purchasable only by badges.
- Many of these badges are only obtained by disabled (red), raiding (yellow), or hacking (blue) other players.
- There is a battle tab for each player, consisting of other players within a certain percentage of their rank.
- You showed up on their battle tab, and they are collecting a badge off of you.
What should you do about it?Your first impulse may be to attack them back or comm them. Stop. Look before you leap.- DO NOT COMM THEM. This is a complete waste of your energy.
- Do not take it personally. They didn't go looking for you in particular, they are looking for badges.
- If you do nothing, they can not attack you again until the next time you show up on their battle tab.
- Any aggressive action you take, including many enemy artifacts, will put your ship on their ship's log for the next two days.
- Maybe you are stronger than them. If so, you can badge them back.
- If you were on the bridge of your ship when you were badged and you intend to use artifacts to aid in your badge back, it may be best to wait at least a little while. The other captain is clearly on their bridge right when they badge you, and can counteract many of your artifact effects easily if they are alerted while you use the artifacts on them.
- Many ships (but not all) will let it slide if you try to badge back, but not if you repeatedly attack them. Multiple retaliations against a stronger ship is a good way to hurt yourself while helping them. The longer you fight a losing battle with another ship, the more badges they will get.
- You may be tempted to alert them to your legion. This is frowned upon, as badging is a part of the game and legion alerts are generally reserved for serious infractions.
Okay, I'm leaving them alone, but I keep getting attacked. How do I make it stop? You have a number of choices at this point, the viability of which depends entirely on you and your ship's setup: - Make sure you trap up. Ideally you would always have a halcyon trap, krionus virus trap, and quantum firewall trap on at all times. Omicron mine traps are not as useful, but if you've got one, set it as well. Realistically you make only have traps on some times depending on your artifact production, but do what you can to make yourself a harder target.
- You can become a PVPer yourself. Up your combat rating, get better weapons research.
- Turtle up. Research and maximize your hull and equip some defense, and your ship will take too much energy for most PVPers to disable.
- Hide. Research and maximize your cloak. The higher your cloak, the less likely you are to show up on another captain's battle tab.
- Any combination of the above.
If you're just trying to complete missions and people keep bothering you, then you need to change your strategy a little bit. Make your ship a less inviting target, or make your ship harder to find. * Player Versus Player

Hopefully this will help some people. It seems like a fair number of people are able to rank up a bit (80+) without an understanding of the PVP aspects of Galaxy Legion. Here are some useful links:
