necro-ing my own thread.... Since dan is looking at old ideas that appeared to be well taken too at the time.. and saying he is not opposed to "Having abilities/passives that unlock or become available over time is a good start, though" figured he could take a look at this thread..

Some of these ideas are really great and make sense! I'd support most of the rank 200 abilities though...but I'm not much with those at rank 600.

another thought: rather than rank being the qualifying factor, could it be time spent as a particular profession ... so 30 days for the first level and 60 days for the second level ?

the other way to 'balance' things might be to have a global buff / debuff based on the percentage of the galaxy's pilots are in each profession. this could be recalculated once a month, with a different type of bonus or debuff each month. even if you change professions partway thru the month, you still only get your original bonus until the next monthly reset.

While i like this idea better, I suspect that it will work against Dan's needs. He probably wants to encourage people to change race, and thus spend GP, and this may work against that.

Explorer - Scan +20% - Good class but need to get them something that would make you want to stay one when you aren't scanning for planets
Level 200 - Explorer at Heart - Upon colonization / invade significantly increased chance of positive planetary event at +100% effectiveness
Level 600 - Belly of the Beast - Adept at ferreting out those elusive big bosses - 24 hour cool down Find one random npc from the Rare/Extremely Rare class people can abuse this by freeze ranking, then using this ability to find the hybrid larva/dark dispatcher.

Everything else looks good though!

Hacker - Hacking Strength 30% If your a freeze rank hacker .. you MIGHT do this .. but still needs a bit of help
Level 200 - Identity Theft - 24 hour cool down. In addition to a raid, hackers have the ability of hacking a disabled base Success based on damage done (similar to raid) RP returned based on level of base level 3 20K level 4 50k level 5 100k level 6 250k level 7 500k level 8 750k In addition , a crit hack (10% chance) will return a planet of a random member of the disabled legion
Level 600 - any thoughts for a good level 600 class ability???? System Hijack- When you hack an enemy ship, you have a 3% chance to cause the ship to take 10% its attack+defense in damage. Can only be activated once every 24 hrs.

Any thoughts?

Personally I would want this ability to be a bit more powerful than this.. 3% chance is kind of low and IMO this is a weak class.. I like the premise though.. and if that was a perm ability with no cool down but could only be activated once per hour per targeted ship .. it might make this class quite a bit more pvp friendly ..

As for the worry of freeze ranking as an explorer.. keep in mind this is a level 600 ability so you would have had to get that high already.. And you could easily make it exclude certain npc's if that was the desire.. and 1 rare-er per 24 hours isn't a ton.. I honestly don't think freeze ranking would be a concern for this.

All you'd need to do to prevent the explorer ability from being used to find the the hybrid larva/dark dispatcher just make it one random rare/extremely rare elite/boss

Just make the Larvae/Caelon have the same spawn weight compared to other NPCs, still pretty rare!

Level 600 - Anonymity is the best defence - passive. Flares, Clouders and sucsesfull hacks shows up on the enemy players log as unkown hit your ship with a flare/clouder and Unkown hacked X research points. And Critical hacks no longer show up on the enemy players logs at all.
Failed and critical fails however do provide a link to your ship

Also Something I would change
Quote:
Fixer - one of the most common classes in the game.. should get something but nothing crazy powerful
Level 200 - Tinker - Able to get a little more raw material off scrappin stuff +50% to all items scrapped
Level 600 - Workshop - 40 hour cooldown able to build a fixer workshop on a planet size 1 all resources 1 research +3%

Tinker is crazy powerfull. People ncp for hours on end getting often thousands of ctp from it per day day. this would increase their ctp made by 50%. I'd reduce it to 10% max. fixers allready powerfull
Aside from that I give this a +10^0

I see what you're saying, but I think he meant built ship mods.

I would love to see a bit more depth in regards to professions, recently went kronyn hacker, loving the ability but feel that the profession leaves you wanting something a bit more substantial.
