someone updated the Wiki http://galaxylegion.com/wiki/index.php/Ship_Strategy#All_Rounder

You forgot one important drawback to slow ranking, income. The balancing act with ranking slowly is balancing your income to your tech level. Because your ranking slowly, your mineral pulls are going to be of lower quality than if you were a higher rank, so your going to have to rank eventually. What slow ranking does is allow you to build a stronger ship and farm better quality mobs longer than a faster ranker would be able to, but eventually your tech level is going to force you up, but at least by the time you get there you'll be fairly strong. A slow ranker ranks up fast, but is weak, having to then take the time to strengthen his ship.

As you can see here, I added all the necessary links, and a bit of other wiki coding, as well as requested it be included in the Getting Started section of the main page.

Here is a forum post of someone who went fast rank, but now finds it hard to be competitive with his ship.

The great flaw in this is as Frail stated. As I have advised new member after new member it is NEVER a good idea to hold up on ranking.. ever. Now it can be stated this does not apply to those over 350 nearly as much. Tho is the early stages a good rank 400 can have an arti draw yielding 5-8 rescued prisoners and 2-5 shipbots... daily over a super slow rank 225. Not to mention an increase in minerals in the billions. Then of course there is research, lol. Yes of course I realize you are into what you have done, but in relation you cannot understand what you could have.... just saying.

Thanks for the reply, but perhaps you missed the tons of comments earlier or else you were just trying to press my buttons... which is cool. LOL. Of course I realize what I could have done, that is the whole point of creating this topic, so people will have a much clearer understanding of the options in front of them. Dan has recently added upgrades to the Dominion Cannons, and I heard several high ranking folks talking about how long it would take them to get the badges for those guns. A low rank, slow ranker by that strictest of comparisons, comes out "ahead." It all depends on which measuring tool you are using at any given time.

Lol.. not trying to press buttons, but speak the truth from a viewpoint you do not have from your choice of build. Tons of comments... a few yes, and those that follow this path will be weak overall for the game so I do feel others who have not gone this path should post their experiences also.. especially should this become a sticky.

You and I started this game roughly at the same point.. and we have obviously chosen differnt paths.. would you care to compare ships?

In the Long run slow rankers are better. If you wanna troll go somewhere else. Fast ranking ends up in you getting Planet slots and certain Missions. But in the end they dont have the same researched things the slow rankers have giving them advantages but the fast rankers not many advantages. As even with the slots. They wont have the tech for scanning alot. So they will have to buy planets. Slow ranking is very good. But Fast ranking also has advantages like more decks. But that just makes you attain more damage without some defense tech 8-)

Not sure where you came from but I am far from trolling. This strat is flawed as is the small ship build, and should this be sticked new players need to know. No, sorry you are incorrect.. as I stated I began the same time as the OP.. so yes my research will be close to the same, but even higher as I draw 7000 res per hour and can bank nearly 70,000 when away. Then again I also can handle the 3B upkeep that goes with it because of my rank. Please go back under your rock.. or at the very least know of what you speak.

LOL, Josh it is not Trolling. I want this to be a sticky and I invite other opinions.

We can certainly do a ship comparison, but so long as it takes into account several aspects of the game.. not just modules or research. Where are you on the kills boards? behind me... the hacks? behind me... the raids? All those things I did because I took my time to build the ship the way I liked. I mentioned previously, it all depends on what you are going for in the game. From some "scores" I am ahead of you, from other "scores" like rank, you are ahead of me. Also remember that the slow ranking build is based on a few basic premises.

1. EVERYONE will get disabled at some point anyway. No one is invincible. All it takes is one good alert.
2. There will ALWAYS be someone bigger. PSICore was the undisputed rank king for well over a year and a half... now there are two ships bigger than him (Frail and Reverus).

Realizing those two things helped me to take a different option. I didn't want to be a juggernaut compared to rank 500's, but I wanted to be a monster compared to others near my rank (currently low 200's)... which is exactly what my record reflects.

The only thing I have found easier to get at lower rank is kills. Then again in your case as you are a hacker and concentrating on it hacks of course. Another thing I also adivse if you want the leaderboards.. get em earlier at low rank when it is easy, but to stall for only that.. much is missed.

For the 'All Rounder' I would adjust the recommended Race/Profession to Sillixx Merchant.

Giving you +10% decks and +30% cargo space - it is the best general-purpose Race/Prof as it enables you to swap ship equipment around to do whatever you fancy doing at the time.

Another new advantage to faster ranking that has recently come up is in base building and fighting.

I've been able to contribute over 2 million energy to the base without having to buy an energy refill.

I see a lot of people stalling in their attacks because they run out of energy. Having a lot of energy is key in doing solid dmg. You also get more for your buck when using energy cubes.

Right now, there is only a couple of rewards for base fighting that's decent. But, I believe some cool rewards will come out later on.

Really like the slow ranker option, its what i played since rank 120 but everyone in my legion went fast ranker so all the npcs were outta my range and i had to turn fast ranker to catch up and get the npcs. but i still have the combat ability of a slow ranker as of now (rank 175) which is cool cuz im still able to be same combat effective as someone double my rank.

The reason all rounder is listed as any is that you will get a boost no matter what you choose. Yes, Sillixx is probably the best for it, but I hated being a merchant even though I have an all around build. (I actually started Inergon Merchant, and have since switched to Sillixx Explorer).

Lol I started Inergon Biologist so I changed to Sillixx Fixer, at level 200 Im changing to Inergon Explorer. Best for missions. But Sillixx is kinda a curse so is Builder. Soon you depend upon the decks or really need the extra money. Thats why I have to take off some stuff. like a cannon and Defense.
