I think a research tree along these lines would be cool. After all, what large vessel is ever without smaller support ships? This is just a rough idea thought up in moments so please feel free to add suggestions.


Level 1 - Docking Collar
All ships come standard with a docking collar to allow transfer of personnel
Effect - none
Research cost - 0

Level 2 - Shuttle bay
A shuttle bay is installed on the ship allowing safer transport of crewmembers
Effect - +30 engineers
Research cost - 10,000 (Requires Light Cruiser or larger)

Level 2.2 - Armed Shuttles
Your shuttles are given offensive upgrades
Effect - +30 tactical officers
Research cost - 10,000

Level 2.3 - Recon Shuttles
Shuttles are equipped with advanced sensors
Effect - +30 Scientists
Research cost - 10,000

Level 3 - Fighter bay
Ship now carries small fighter craft capable of defending versus more maneuverable targets
Effect - Defense +2%
Research cost - 50,000 (Requires Light Battleship or larger)

Level 3.2 - Bomber Squadron
Your ship now carries a squadron of bombers capable of precision surface strikes
Effect - Planetary Invasion +2%
Research cost - 50,000

Level 3.3 - Advanced Interceptors
Your squadrons now include high tech multi-role fighters capable of damaging much larger ships
Effect - Attack +2%
Research cost - 50,000

Level 4 - Picket Ships
Your ship is now accompanied by various support craft
Effect - Raid defense +10%
Research cost 100,000 (Requires light dreadnaught or larger)

Level 4.2 - Science vessel
An advanced research vessel provides you with technical support
Effect - Hacking defense +10%
Research cost - 100,000

Level 4.3 - Boarding vessels
Special assault ships deliver your raiding parties quickly and effectively
Effect - Raiding +2%
Research cost - 100,000

Level 5 - Fleet Tender
A tender ship allows more efficient repairs after a battle
Effect - Repair cost -10%
Research cost - 300,000 (Requires Titan size or larger)

Level 5.2 - Supply Ship
Extra supplies and components are kept aboard a nearby supply vessel
Effect - cargo +5%
Research cost - 300,000

Level 5.3 - Communications vessel
A communications vessel with advanced sensor arrays gives enhanced tactical awareness to your ships
Effect - Scan +10%
Research cost - 300,000


Level 6 - Mega Carrier
Your ship now carries far more fighters, bombers, and interceptors
Effect - Additional +2% attack, defense, and invasion attack
Research cost - 500,000 (Requires Goliath or larger)

Level 7 - Flagship of the fleet
Your vessel is the most heavily guarded ship in the fleet allowing it to sit back at a distance and fire with impunity.
Effect - +5% attack vs enemy bases
Research cost - 750,000 (Requires Leviathan or Larger)

Level 8 - Mobile Command Station
Your ship has grown so large it is more rightfully considered a mobile space station
Effect - +5% hull and shields
Research cost - 1,000,000 (Requires Star Destroyer or Larger)

I love the ship size restrictions as well, especially the flagship one. This would be an excellent addition for people like me who have researched the best tech that their level typically has. (for example, im rank 196 and currently have Quasi-Chaotic Blasters open for research)

Anyway, i hope this will get put in the game. Great idea, just one question: Would you need to install these, and forfeit the bonuses of the other ones? Or would they be automatically added? Or would their be no module limit on these?

It could probably use a few more tiers. I'll brainstorm some more. Everyone else can add if they like too.

These are great ideas and a major plus is that they are easily implemented too. They're not too in depth and they're not over-powered ideas either.

The idea of having to have a certain class ship too is a major plus too, as it means you have to advance further deck wise, if you want some of these.

Very nice I like the thought process you got going here. Add the ships that players have been asking for a long time in a very constructive and unique way.

One ting though when i saw this

I think more of a scanning bonus than scientists. Just because of the name recon.

well base tech when it came out was 9 tiers so you just need a few more.

Commodities broker
1st lvl 10% increase in minerals storage
2nd lvl 10% increase in research storage
3rd lvl 10% increase in artifact storage

This has been suggested before, but not nearly as well. This should make it in. It's precise and it wouldn't mess up the game via unbalancedness. Awesome! +1

IF they where module you had to install (and the # you can have gos up with bigger ship sizes) I would like it more.

Either that, or you have to choose one to have for each tier.
At high ranks, everyone's ship is practically the same - there needs to be some forced diversity. This could be it. For example, you have to choose between the fighter bay, Bomber squadron and the advanced interceptors - you can only have 1 of the 3.

Something that increases sheild charge time would be nice (not energy though we have enough of that currently) I propose a teir
Drones (must be Dreadnote or bigger)Drones provide additional energy for sheilds and can hold extra supplys for your ship.
Level 1
+5% sheild
Level 2
+1% too total decks
Level 3
+ 10 Sheild charge
