oh, and FYI, for my first 100 ranks i centered my research on energy (for larger and faster energy), planetary (for better production and planet population), scanning (for more and better planets), then shield tech (shield was only for planet protection) i would say in that order, and research more on the first ones, going down the line doing less..
i didnt worry about weapons or cloak so much, but still had hvy singularity before rank 80 (because of my planetary and scanning research lvl's)

You should do some weapons research for several reasons.

1. Makes it easier to PvP and get the 512 red badges you need for all 4 dominion cannon MK 3's which are AWESOME for their attack / space ratio. 150 attack for only 17 space each.

2. Invading good planets that you've scanned or the planets that your legion may alert.

3. Planetary attack buildings (not as important).

The best researchable weapons so far are the Heavy Null Rays because of upkeep / attack as it only costs roughly 500 million total upkeep for 8 guns. Thetacrons are okay but only if you can afford roughly 2 billion in upkeep. NERF guns (chaos blasters)? Forget it. 1 billion upkeep per gun, which means 8 billion upkeep.

Yeah. I was just advising the newbie that he shouldn't neglect weapons and that he should stop weapons research at null rays for a long time. Null rays are good until like level 700+ and by then you'd have like 15k mining per hour so you'd be able to afford the Thetacrons easily.

Right now, I'm researching Spacial Docking, then the first AI Logistics. That will take eight days total. I need to contribute to my base.

After that... weapons, then?

I agree with the energy, planet production and scan thing early on. It's true getting weapons is more useful with the battle market but your resource production is pretty low. I barely bothered with cloak and shield research for ages.

A good scan blitz might be good. Get someone in your legion to send you the artifacts you'll need to boost your scan. Be prepared to burn lots of energy. I've done 4000+ scans for 563 planets. (At about rank 380. I'm rank 410+ now). It helps you rank slower too and it's more effective than burning 750 energy to get a star chart purger from the mission.

Definitely focus on more research planets. Hopefully your base outputs research too. 10k extra research a day is a lot at your level.

Re: the heavy nulls versus thetacrons thing, it all depends on your strategy. I kill NPCs so attack is king. Unbuffed I have about 4400 attack. Around 6000+ with crystal foci, crimson obelisks and the other crimson attack arti.

I'm swapping in thetacron cannons now. Got 3 of those and 2 light ones. 2.2 billion upkeep. I don't install much scan and my cloak is pretty low for my level but I can tear through NPCs fairly easily. I hunt NPCs so I have some nice mining planets. 2 15x v.large, a 17 massive and an 18x massive ming give me over 2000 mining. Got around 8000 mining a the mo'. I'm a vygoid Excavateur. I know I should be a Drannik or Kongul Builder for NPC hunting and might change once I've researched most stuff.

I'd also do the Zolazin chain to change from Inergon Biologist. It's up to you of course. I changed race once and stuck with Vygoid Excavateur for about 300-350 ranks. The resource production boost is really worth it. 20% extra research and 10% extra arti. The arti won't make much of a difference at your level but it's well worth it at higher ranks. If you're going to slow rank then the Inergon bonus sin't great.

Wait till New Year and hopefully the daily reward will be anotjher race change arti like this year. I was lucky and got 2 of those.

Oh..and get your legion leader to make a trade pact with coadym if you want some Crimson Obelisks. Got a few of those spare.

I'll be moving to Torment soon so you might want to make a trade pact with them too.

My resource production is what I'm focusing on right now. What do you think is "good" for my rank (64)?

This is what I do every time I research Mark III of a new scanner. :) Do I need to do it more often?

I recently changed legions. In my old one, I got about 1K a day. In my new one, I can't contribute to the level 3 base because I have gotten far enough on base research. :/ As for planets, that's what I'm doing at the moment. :)

I agree with you. I've regretted my choice since level 30 or so. :/ This sounds silly, but, um... the Zolazin chain?

No, the top of each tier is recommended

Thetacrons are easy if you have high mining. NERF guns, you'd need like 20k mining per hour to comfortably afford those PLUS all the other high end modules. But Tetrix probably won't get there for a long while, so yeah, anti-matter tier is good enough for now. Once she hits level 150 or so, she should research null rays assuming she can afford the 500 million upkeep for these. Once she does, she doesn't need to research thetacrons until like level 400 or so.

Research energy. I can't stress that enough. Even though I'm a slow leveler, having energy relays is a must if you want to do NPC bosses, base combat, PvP, etc. Right now I have about 1650 max energy which is pretty low for my rank, and using the very best energy relays, I get 120 energy every hour. It still takes more than 12 hours to recharge a full bar of energy. Imagine if you try to recharge that much energy with low end relays? Probably days.

Planet structures are a must. I have +12 buildings, which are great. I can easily pull out 150+ units of hourly production from average planets with these. But thats probably a long ways off for you. Just go for +8's ASAP cuz they're the first of the efficient structures. Don't upgrade every time you unlock a new building tier. If you get +5's, don't build them. Wait until you get +6's. Why? Its the cost. Imagine the cost of buying +5's for all your planets, then srapping these and then rebuilding them as +6's again, while +6's are more expensive than +6's. So skipping tiers is strongly recommended to save on costs.

Scan is important too, but you need to get energy and planet buildings up first, then scan. So for right now and the next 100 levels, I recommend this...

Energy up to Positron Relays (cuz of your low research income) ---> planet structures up to Quantum Assembly (+6 buildings) ---> Sensors up to Subdimensional Sensors ---> Null Rays

The biggest problem here is your RP income. You REALLY need to bump it up to around 1,000 per hour or more. Then you can research more stuff at a faster rate.

Alright, energy it is then. :)

And I managed to get it up to 541, at least. Sadly, that's better than it was. xP

Wondering what exactly I can do to double it. :| I guess I just have really, really bad planets.

Are you in a legion? You can ask a legion for research planets or ask for one via trading or donations. I did the same thing when I was your rank when I had no good planets on scan and didn't have the purger mission unlocked to get purgers without AP shipments.

Also here's the page for research info to help you figure out costs and stuff.

I've been studying that link carefully for the past few days. :)

And yes, I am in a legion. When I get to 68, I'll be sure to do that. Thanks. ^_^

Mmph, I'd rather not everyone grew strong for their rank. Slow rankers are elites.

You've hardly been slow ranking recently though Strm. You with your singularity cores and relays.

Equally, I have better defense tech than you from beneath your badge range...

140*0.6=84
I'm only 77.
And you can't say much in your defense either, because I've caught up to you on most other combat techs too...

The slow rankers are the elite PvPers. Players like me, Perto, Snapdragon, Serak are all extremely strong for our rank. How many rank 77s have Quantum Overlay Engines and Singularity Launchers?

And I'm only using cores and relays for the Bi-Weekly. It's nice to have special modules, even though 40 attack isn't worth it for 15 space, add in 40 cloak and it is. 96 if I go spy (including spy bonus)
