Boost your planets by size. The added resources going from Very Sparse to Sparse is no different that going from 14x Mega Rich to 15x Mega Rich. The determining factor is how many raw points you can get before abundance bonus. You can put more structures on a larger planet. Start with your Very Massive planets.

in all cases where you're improving the production quality of a planet, if you improve a world that you've stuffed the most units of that resource type, it'll give you the greatest increase (because it's a fixed increase per hour of 25% of the raw resource units from structures on that planet)

generally speaking this would be the largest planets first...

Yep. Totally. Do the largest gas planets you can so you can turn them into colossal plasma planets. V.massive metallics are an option if you want to stick some population structures in for defence.

I wonder how the Kronyn bonus compares to the Vygoid bonus?

I think it sort of depends on the rate at which you colonise research planets. Vygoid gives a standard 20% boost to all planets so if you're colonising research planets quickly I think the bonus is better than Kronyn.

If it's one research planet a week then the Kronyn bonus can boost it 75% right? In fact even in the unlikely scenario that you colonise a planet once every 2 days then the Kronyn bonus is better.

Is that right? (I'm vygoid btw)

Without actually doing the math (I'll let Lone.Lycan handle THAT), one MAJOR advantage Kronyn has over Vygoid is that it is a PERMANENT increase to your research. If you decide to change races later, you don't lose any of the research/hour that you've become accustomed to.

And of course, you can go Kronyn>Vygoid. Infact, if you have cash to burn you can use both bonuses. (Switch to Kronyn, boost research, change to vygoid.)

personally I feel that a Massive with all 3 res type can be better than a VM of only 1 res type(namely, research on gas, as the most common)
Because there are artifacts that are better than any of the mono-res building u can ever build that will have multiple res types. For example, warp gate. it is better than ur mono by research alone, so u will want it built anyway even if it's a mono-res planet(provided that you have enough and don't worry about wasting).
With that said, it's very natural to have 10-15 "other" type of res pre-availability that would go to waste on a mono, and a VM doesn't give that much over a M. So as long as u care about the "others" in the least bit, that can change your decision
Also, boosting something that have a "over-the-cap" transformation option, such as terra(to gaia) is a better choice than something that doesn't(such as oceanic or metal, which goes to dyson which doesn't care about orginal stat) because if you ever get to that stage of transformation, that will give both res and size upgrade, and the size upgrade will make all ur past boost get an extra boost.

But to put it simply, yeah, the biggest planet is probably the best. Although for each additional resource type, you can consider a +0.5 (or +1 if you value all the res type about equally) in this comparison.
That is, a VM is 9, M is 8. But VM with 1 res is 9.5(or 10) while M with 3 res is 10.5(or 12) for such a "rating"
and when all else is same, consider whether it have potential for further size growth(and I mean +size, not "to xxxx size"), ones that do are better than ones that don't.

just my two cents anyway~

As a caveat, it can be worth it to 'even out' certain planets. I'm a Taltherian and I have a small exotic that I'm getting ready for rifting. When I started, it was

8X Mining
4X Arti's
Very Rich Research

My plan is to get it as close to 15/15/15 as I can before I rift it. Now normally, I'd say there's not much point in maxing all of a planet's stats. For example, if you make a 17X plasma, you're just going to put research on the thing, so having good mining is pointless. Specializing a planet is usually best. But if you want 15/15/15, remember that once *one* value hits 15, you can't add Terraformers any more. This means you want them as close to even as possible.

However, for a Mega Colossal or something like a Rift that's going to be extremely high in *all* stats, it's best to just load the sucker up with artifact structures, regardless of which resource they produce. You're just going for absolute maximal efficiency rather than specialization. For example, my mission Dyson has 108 *base* production - 108:75 ratio on space used. This makes it produce like so:

Resource Availability Production
Mining 28x Mega Rich 540 units/hr
Artifact 28x Mega Rich 740 units/hr
Research 34x Mega Rich 943 units/hr

The only non-artifact structure on it is a single Hyperforge Fabricator - everything else is an artifact structure.

So my point in all this is - in general, take the biggest planet you can and max it out in one resource. HOWEVER, for planets you plan to Rift or otherwise pile artifacts onto, even out the production so you can maximize Terraformers.

As a Mylerai, I have gone through all of those options you have listed, and have discovered what is your best choice: The ones you have best defended. It sucks to spend energy to upgrade a planet just to have some punk get lucky, scan it and consider it worthy of attack. It won't stop everyone, but it will slow down the opportunists.

You're just saying that because, as I recall, you build a "Punk Opportunist Attractor" on all your decent planets... Cloak -5000, Invasion Defense -5000

Hmm anyone engineering 15x RP VM gases to sell ? What price ? It occurred to me that's a useful thing to have for a planet trader.
