Assuming that my math is correct, if you use all available space for Mining structures (not counting the Miner race bonus if you have it), the Small Rich planet will give you 19.5 per hour with a New colony and 39 per hour with a Peaked colony using the +1 mining structures and the Large Extremely Abundant will give 19.1/44.6. The +2 mining structures give 22.3/44.6 for New/Peaked on the Small planet and 21.8/51 on the Large planet. So while the Small planet looks slightly better with a new colony, the Large one will be better once the colony peaks.

Also, for your noobs out there who don't guard your planet, you have to realize that people are beginning to invade planets. A larger planet gives good space so that you can guard the planet and get the optimum amount of minerals out of it.

jcwiggens wrote: whats the best way to guard your planet...stealth or att/def ? Great question. Ideally it would be stealth... If nobody can find you, there''s nothing to defend against. But realistically I'm not sure how well this works. I'm assuming that if your planet cloak is less than a ship's scanning, it's fair game as if it had no cloak. Anyone above level 10 will probably have huge amounts of scanning on their ship when they're looking for planets. My last planet hunt was at lvl 40 and my scanning was close to 300, and that's nothing compared to what the higher level deck-monsters will be sporting. You could fill a planet with all cloak stuff and wouldn't come close to hiding it from them. That is, if scanning really does work like that. It's possible that there is some math or voodoo happening that takes the scan & cloak scores and does some funky calculation. (I certainly hope this is the case!) Anyone know the answer? jcwiggens wrote: well i have a lot of gas giants, so orbital stuff i take it i dont have enough favor to build a soldier outpost. also i can build a ion minefield, is that because i have reached ion weapons? thanks for your reply to Yes, your planet attack & defense modules fall under weapons research.

Someone posted an excel worksheet off of google earlier about the same time i posted my spreadsheet for production in the strategy section... Well i KINDA used that spreadsheet layout and fixed some math issues, updated and add ALOT of stuff so you can more accurately compare 2 planets..
I'm looking for a way to post an excel spreadsheet on the forums or onto a functional HTML page IF anyone knows of an IDEA.
it's awesome

This is a link to download the spreadsheet that I posted earlier (that Cloesdaddy referred to). I actually have a working HTML version but don't currently have a web host where I can post it. If/when the WIKI is available to the rest of us I can probably put it there... https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0Bz ... MTYy&hl=en

google/docs won't let me import this spreadsheet, is there something complex about it? can you save it as a simpler spreadsheet?
I don't have Microsoft Excel, I'm not rich

I honestly don't know why Google Docs won't import it properly. I tried as well and wasn't able to do it. It's a very simple spreadsheet with basic text and number charts showing the stats for the planet sizes and resource availability and two very simple formulas to calculate the results based on the stats that you want to use. Someone else did manage to get Google Docs to display the spreadsheet as a generic document so you can see what it looks like if you don't have Excel or don't want to download the original, but it cuts off the text boxes with instructions and you can't actually use it to calculate your own results: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AsotWz6wn79ldHNQNG0yNmdvZzdKTHJ6aHVLVDljN1E&hl=en

i got it into google docs. you just have to upload it.
1-click "upload" on left side (to the right of "create new") 2-Select file to upload (middle-with a box around it) 3-click the "start upload" button at bottom

Uploading it isn't a problem. I have already done that so people can download the spreadsheet if they want to. The link is about four posts above this one. The problem is that Google Docs will normally let you convert Word and Excel documents into online versions that can be viewed and edited directly on the Google Docs site but it won't convert this one for some reason.
I might just convert it to an interactive web page and post it on a free host somewhere unless someone else beats me to it...

i just use google.com/docs, loads faster than Open Office, and I don't have to backup my data
