BASE MODULE, SIZE 2 SPECIAL

ENERGY CUBE MANUFACTURER

takes current energy and transforms it into an energy cube to be used at a later date

alternatively, you could make batches of cubes worth 50 energy, or increments of 100 or so

i can see how this would be handy if you're going away for a while, and so you'd lose energy anyway, but if it's a base module it would probably have to take more space to be a bit fairer, and cost a lot.
or with tweeks it could work as a energy version of the Radiant Surge Cannon to raise your maximum energy amount with a boost being based on your level when first installed

I think it is a great idea, there should be a cost like the mineral units trade, make it so it takes 20% of the energy to create the cube. The idea is to take the energy you already have turn it into an energy cube and save it for later. Thus you are not gaining any new energy, so if you happen to be at a point in the game where you want to slow rank and not use energy you could virtually put it into storage and use it later.

1. Cost to make: 60, energy on release:50 or something like this, maybe 55/50 but I think there should be a net cost to this.(much like buy/sell minerals)
2. Shouldn't be able to be used when within 10% of lvl up. I don't like the fact that this can be used as an alternative to "dump all energy into base upgrade to prevent wasting energy just before level up"
3. Could have a selectable option under settings for something like this:
When energy is full, auto make cube from base if able(base have the structure)
The cost on this should be higher, for example 70 for 50 if the normal is 60 for 50. This can be useful if you have to be away for a while for some reason.
Although... I think a cap on this option should exist so ppl don't just leave for months and come back to piles and piles of cubes.

Edit: consider using cargo size to limit #3, although that may be too much or too few, that's up for discussion

if you didn't have an auto make cube option no one would be able to leave for months and come back to tons of cubes, also I agree the cubes should take up storage space on your ship. It should also be a module that has to be researched so if you haven't researched it yet you can't use it like the CT lab.

ok, so we'll call 'em Stored Energy Reserves

limit 10 in cargo at any time

we could have 'em in increments of 100 energy, at a cost of 10% of the cube's energy + 10% EM + 10% ctp

basic SER = 100 energy, costs 110 energy+ 10 em +10ctp
moderate SER =200 , costs 220 + 20 em + 20 ctp
advanced SER = 300, costs 330 +30 em +30 ctp
elite SER = 400 , costs 440 + 40 em +40ctp
ultra SER =500, costs 550 + 50em + 50ctp

i like the automatic spawn idea, could be useful

okay so the CUBE MANUFACTURING CENTER could be 4 special space instead of 2

not quite sure where to put it in the base research tier

At least if you want to attach a CTP cost like that. Most ppl who haven't finished that tech probably don't have so much CTP to spare as to use this.

The EM part is defintely reasonable, maybe even too cheap. But 1 CTP/10 energy is a lot for many, so might as well jack up the tech requirement for it XD

Besides... energy can be considered phase related XD

Base Capacitor:
Deposit energy into here for use at a later date.
Limit: Rank x 10 (eg a rank 100 could deposit 1000 energy)
Only 1/2 of your transferred energy can be recovered (eg you would need 2k energy to get 1K in the capacitor).

ya know.... kinda off topic, but this thread reminds me of something...

In StarGate Atlantis... of all the time that they were in the Pegasus galaxy, they never mentioned finding info about creating or recharging the ZPM's... but for sure, the ancients must've had some sort of machine to create them, huh?


so maybe it's the same here... there no longer exists a way to create or recharge cubes, but we just keep finding some of the very high number of them that still exist in the galaxy

i had the same thought while watching Atlantis, especially when they found the atalantian replicator's who where capable of making them at a whim

Energy is a limited resource for a reason. This artifact would essentially eliminate that limitation. Even if you said you could only have a few of them on hand at any given time; even if you made them VERY expensive to make - it would be game changing. Everyone would make them.

The next time you are doing an NPC blitz and a nice boss comes up, you can guarantee yourself energy to hit that boss. The next time you need a planet run, you can do it - and then jump in on the base your legion just locked on. The possibilities are endless, the point being that energy is no longer nearly as limited.

Tri-Matrix and Energy Cubes are rare, and thus hoarded. This would not be the same thing - if you burn up your "home made energy cubes" you can just make more.

Plus, from a "This is a Business" standpoint - Dan makes money on people buying GP on impulse because they just HAVE to have that next energy fix. This sounds like it might lower the amount of GP purchased.

Not to say I wouldn't LOVE to have these cubes. But it would lessen the difficulty of the game, which imho is a bad thing, and so I would not want to see them added to the game.
