I have been wondering for a while. What defines someone as farmers, what makes them farmers??

They planet things in the ground and grow them to sell. If they don't grow things or grow things to eat them self then there not a farmer.

In game it is someone who repeatedly attacks/raids/hacks a person(s) for stats and resources.

To me, it's someone who constantly disables/hacks the same person/people (usually significantly lower rank) every chance they get. And not necessarily just for badges.
Keep in mind that this definition does not apply to those at the upper end of the rank list. Those guys are restricted by the lack of players they can badge, so tto me that isn't farming.

a "farmer" in a game sense is anyone that devotes their time to repeatedly doing a specific task (other than trading) in order to gain a nice supply of particular reward i.e. farming for badges, farming for planets, farming for elites/bosses, farming for a particular legion's players, farming for QSE's, etc

4 candidates:
A: Attacks the same person multiple times in a row. He is farming that player B: Attacks everyone they see in a certain legion at any opportunity. He is farming the legion. C: Attacks everyone who is significantly lower/weaker than him, killing them at every chance. He is a stat farmer. D: Kills NPCs non-stop all day. He is a NPC farmer.
Player D is the only "nice" farmer. The three others are doing it at other player's detriment.
Reasons for farming: *To get badges *To get stats *To get production (hacks/raids) *Revenge (over a planet, or past farming incident, understandable) *Legions are at war (understandable) *To get certain item drops (understandable)
Legions can also "farm" certain base levels, purely for the drops.

you left out the planet farmer i mentioned.. one who spends all their energy on star chart purgers and planet scans (and the occasional hack for crit hack chance at planets)

Is farming for badges looked down upon by other players? Let's say you end up hitting a couple of players a lot in a couple of days, not intentionally but more due to a lot of pvp and those people being on your bt a lot, and always getting a badge (within the 12 hour rule for badge). Would one still be considered a farmer? The bad kind? Comments on that

while it is part of the game and a necessary way to get some ship modules, some people get upset when they see the same person hitting them even once every other day...
I try to leave a "badge" message on everyone i hit, and look for it whenever i pull someone up... if it's there, i tap them once to remove them from my BT for a while... if it's not there, i'll badge them (if they deleted it, it's their fault they're being disabled again so soon)

When you're badging, kill/hack whoever you want/can. If they take exception to getting hit a few times by the same person, make note of who they are and consider them an Entertainment Badge as well. Then proceed to badge them even more. You don't fall into the "bad" range until you start hitting them repeatedly and NOT get badges.

Would one still be considered a farmer? The bad kind? Comments on that I have run in to this problem lately. It seems like GL is split. Many good plays from leader bords upper rank ppl who know what there doing are ok with it . On the other hand players with weak ships who some how made it to a good rank cry about and look down on it. I know pvp'ing a lot will restricted targets i all so post comms to limmet farming . I try to badge no more then 1 time in a day. How ever no madder what you do others will be upset. even at 24 hours its not good nuff fore many . I would suggest finding a time frame your ok with that you dont consider farming and your conferable doing. I would suggest 24 hours between badging but even if you go 1 week you will prob fined some one "Looking down on it" some people refuse to accept pvp as a part of the game.

Thanks guys, it is good to know I'm not the only one thinking it is not 'bad' as long as you get a badge.
