well, 13k I think is pretty tough to crack
my maxed toxic has over 13k total invasion defense and still pulls out a hefty 600 units an hour.
and my top ten planets have AT least 6k total invasion defense except for my only Aphotic planet, which I stuck a bunch of passive and artifact building cloak on (nearly 6k), but still has over 4k total invasion defense and they all pull out at least 150 units an hour (some of these planets aren't pretty big....)

i have failed well over 20 planets with 90% chance of invasion! many several times in a row.

but this is totally negated once you alert it and 50 of your freinds get a stab.

ok you might fail but your legion will not.

One of the reasons they are now invincible.

But you forget, no matter how much attack you have.. there is *ALWAYS* 10% chance of failing!
And trust me.. i have failed well over 20 planets with 90% chance of invasion! many several times in a row.

Now with cloak, 1pt scan over your cloak = I SEE IT (if the RNG roll sout your planet on the first roll)
WHEN i see your planet.. cloak is useless, and since "you" went with cloak.. ill have it much easier to take that planet.

whats your max scan?

1 point of scan over the planet's cloak is not an absolute guarantee that you'll see the planet
1 point of scan over the planet's cloak means you have a (extremely SMALL) chance of seeing the planet...

( planet cloak / ship scan ) = chance to fail locking onto the planet
1 - (planet cloak / ship scan ) = chance to succeed locking onto the planet

i greatly disagree that def/att is useless im not very high in rank but it seems that a high pop some att and cloak and lots of defense would help such as if you are off when they start attacking but get back on before they can take it you can use artis to brick it and keep the pop up with cloning pods eventually they will give up for at least the day. just my 2 cents

Good luck trying to do that. The top 10 legions can bust through that with sabs and high attack ships.

First person invade fails? Pass the planet around like a dancer girl at a strip joint. 50 legion members trying at it per day means you'll inevitably lose the planet unless you can somehow find or trade for a planet flux.

i never said that it made it invincible just tougher for people without some 800+ people in their legion :)

Thanks for the input Achillies but your point is kinda mute, in this particular situation. We are discussing (or i am) weather its possible to defend from the top legions. Im not worried about the person who it takes all day to invade me, that's a fair fight. Im guessing we would be similar levels for them to even try.

Im just trying to work out weather or not it is worth having 5-6k plus defense as standard on good planets, in fact you have all been a great help so far and have come up with the following conclusions:

I would not bother with defense on anything less than;

Barren - Massive - Rich
Volcanic - Massive - Rich
Gas - Very Massive - Mega Rich
Desert - Massive - Mega Rich
Icy - Very Large - Rich
Toxic - Very Large - Rich

Metallic - Large - Abundant
Oceanic - Large - Abundant
Terra - Large - Abundant

I Always Defend Exotic and Minor Mission Planets, usually with my best available artis & tec.

Now at mid game (300+) I would never bother invading or colonizing less than large or rich planets and usually only upgrade-ables.

w/ as easy as kronyn is to obtain, i don't care how poor production is on a gas planet... all i care about is it's vm...

it took almost no time to make up the 1300 RP i lost switching from vygoid to kronyn

best planet protection would be a strong legion defense/attack power

you want to know a little tip for when it comes to your planets defences? its simple see that little alert legion button there click it and get your legion mates to dog pile it themselfs im not even in a legion thats not even in the top 50 and ive seen some very impressave numbers pile on a planet with even a few ok ranked ships and im talking well into the 50k+ with just a few ships on a planet that already has defences on it.
A few times ive seen all the way up to near 300k defence when a sizeable part of the legion defend the planet also ever wonder why theres artifacts for planets?
O.O use them yeah on there own it 300 defence doesnt mean much but it still is effected by the legion boost.
So there problem solved you can defend your planets you just have to know when its going on also rember PLANET FLUX if you catch it early on you can make it drop out of view before they legion aleart it after the first failed invasion.

Mine is around 8k, then again its unbuffed, without CT-Lab scan buff, without race/profession scan bonus and i still miss some +scan items i havent bothered to get.

Despite the new items that generally boost say attack by ~50% (ie, darkmines) , I would prefer that no one sees the planet in the first place because then I have to flux orb. The player scan and attack distribution is exponential (ie, many lowbies and less number of people above a certain scan/att), I run a standard of 3500 cloak (2 max cloak + legion bonus) on 15x planets. Now, I also add passive cloak to the AP ones so that adds up to about 6k passive with bonus, the result is around 10k which will block almost everyone, and limit the odds of people even with 12k+ scan to under 25%. But the basic 3500 cloak blocks like more than 75% of the random scans out there anyway.

Now, that is 14 spaces, for 2 space (darkmines) + 12 (6 +1200 attack buildings) -> 1800x2 = 3600x6 ~ 21600 attack. Which I always have estimated will block legions at the level to scan the 3500 cloak planets. But I would rather not give a bunch of ppl the opportunity to scan it then randomly roll success, even if it's a smaller chance, it could be ~10-20 ppl.

Perhaps its a wash, or a matter of preference; the people with higher attack also have access to more scan generally. I prefer the fact that cloak when triggered is an absolute defense. Also it ignores the problem of sabs entirely.

Not to mention .. that amount of cloak protects you from the many MANY alts people use to do easy scan blitzes

Yeah that only solidified my position on cloak. One time a low ranked person dinged my planet, I looked at their legion and guess what 20 people of the same rank and ship build go figure. Seriously, just find all the legions with mainly or all inergon/human explorer, if they just have generators and scanners on... esp. if they have a couple of "leaders" at rank ridiculous to them. In that case, 3500 cloak absolutely blocks all of them buggers and thus no selling to upper legions who do have the attack to take out anything, that's why I don't even bother with att/def anymore. How could anyone possible handle and clear out and prove cheating on that scale that it's being done ? I don't even expect Dan to try anymore, every FB game has this problem. I would just scan the IP addresses of the accounts in suspect legions and act accordingly, that much can be done automatically with server logs.

But... I digress. Use cloak.

attack and defenses are used solely for keeping those low level insects off my planets, if a top 20 legion scans my planet I'm screwed anyways if I don't catch it (I will probe and flux my top 10-15 planets to make sure no one has scanned them) look, my legion is number 21(it used to be 15 but 5 players all dropped at the same time) and even we do the "every hit the planet until someone succeeds"...in-fact about 3 days ago I took a maxed out toxic for 15 energy and the cost to invade from a top 5 legion.

I also got lucky a few months back when I conquered Exotica for 20 energy.
my attack was about 3000 back then.
Exotica's invasion defense was around what? 25,000?

the point is, the low end of the invasion formula is 10%, PERIOD.

which means ANY legion with 15+ active players and a crap-load of bio-vaporizers has a reasonably good chance of taking any 20K+ bricked planet assuming they ever found one (I mean it'll get taken back in a heartbeat it they don't also have a flux but they as a whole have a good chance of taking it)

it means that this isn't a one way street people, grow some balls and take the high ranking legion's planets
OR you can just complain about it and beg the government- I mean dan...to "fix the problem"

by the way, do you want to know how I keep my total planet production high and guarantee that it stays that way? I've MAKE from scratch(using only my race ability) tons of maxed out planets (and I have quite a number of them); you can't, CAN'T, lose all your top planets if you have dozens of them, all well defended

A lot of my planets are poorly defended as anyone who's scanned one will find out. It's risky but it means I have a high production output.

There's always this trade off. Losing 18 space to a load of defence/attack or cloak structures is a lot of production space. A little bit of cloak and defence is usually enough to block most players and the rest is left up to chance. The risk is losing more planets which is a real bummer but the advantage is higher production overall.

I hate seeing a good planet taken but I hate seeing a bricked planet even more.

Wow, well those are some great points of view from players that I can definitely respect.
Looks like I might have to have another shuffle on my planets.

To recap my new planetary defense strategy.

Best planets - loads of cloak
Medium planets - noob defense
Others - Nothing, max resource

returning to this post....
i actually share those thoughts about lower lvl guys feeding higher lvl guys/legions with decent planets

i am still considering that mission planets you can get at lvl 100+ like melting icys or making desert to crystal..
from my own experience i melted my first icy at lvl 120 something, so i was so happy to have very massive-ultra rich planet, tho it didnt last long, 2 days and lvl 500+ from top legion took it as easy as cookie from a small child, same happened with my 2nd crystal... its kinda sucks actually,to be honest, i would suggest to make some changes in game to prevent easy planet taking, atleast for mission planets... cuz high lvl's are giving extra effort to take mission planets (me also)
it could be easy prevented, by downgrading %age chance on invasion for mission planets like lets say 10% on mission and 20% on CTlab planets, this would be just fair for ppl who have put fcukload of effort to make it...also making planet for legion like top 5, if they want planet they take it any way (if you are not on and you dont have spare planet flux in cargo (even than will not help actually)
