this galaxy has grown a way to help diversify a little may lie in changing a little of the game mechanics regarding where everything is relative to everything else for example my ship could be floating in the T.O. sector of the galaxy . Being here puts an increased chance of encountering T.O. ships , and like most i would be hunting Troop Carriers . Being here in the T.O. controlled sector of the galaxy also has an effect on the planets i control in that sector , let's say, +5% to it's def/att/cloak and resources . Also, the chance to find certain planets in that sector increases , or is limited to that sector of space. If i wanted a planet in the Taltherian sector , which i might have just unlocked by completing the mission chain , then i would have to move to the Taltherian sector of space . Movement between sectors might have to be limited to once every two hours or something. The placement of the legion bases would become crucial ,too, for many reasons . Let's say my legion's base is in the Vygoid sector of space . Being in the Vygoid sector might have a special effect on the legion's base .... perhaps an increase in the research acquired on the daily shipments . Other sectors may buff defenses (Aerlen) or give bonus to energy contributions (Inergon) . Anyways , if ALL OF MY LEGION'S MEMBERS are in the Vygoid sector , the base may get a small increase in attack and defense . Perhaps 10% or so . The various sectors could have events or "weather" . the ships on your battle tab could be affected by what sector you are currently in changing the location of the legion base could be done by the leaders, or perhaps a vote between members of the legion, and only once a month scanning for enemy bases would become relative to what sector your base is certain sectors of space would be locked until the player finishes the racial mission chains , and all members have to have access to a sector of space to move the legion's base there modify unstable wormhole emitters so they can be used on yourself too . they warp you to a random sector , or an enemy instead as a side-effect of the ability to change sectors, maybe the game's "skin" could change , give the screen a feel of the race that occupies that region, and you could turn off the skin in the settings tab obviously this idea will create controversy , LOL , but i hope you all like it

There are some good ideas here. I think that some of this could be useful. I disagree with all Legion members having the ability to get to a sector to move the base there because that means that new members would also have to be able to get there. In fact I am not sure how having your base in a different sector would work. Further problems could come about when one considers how a shipment of resources is made. I assume that the ship travels to every planet in its database and picks up resources from them individually. Would that still be automatic; how can we now explain the process? All in all your ideas need some polishing but they could prove useful.

I see a good idea with a lot of possibilities. However, I don't think it should be over-complicated or it turns out something like D&D where there are so many calculations to have to deal with. Everything has a bonus/penalty that you have to work out.
Simplicity makes this game work well. But with that being said, I really like a lot of the recent changes, and wouldn't object to seeing new things.
The one thing that I liked the best is the ability to move sectors, and have a more refined NPC selection. If you have special bonuses for everyone being in the same area, it might be hard to obtain with a legion that isn't all in the same time zone. I like the sector idea a lot, but start simple. Then grow from there if people like it.

+1 very good idea with 3 additions
1 while searching the battle tab you have increased odds of finding people in your sector
2 when in a sector that your legion base is not in you get decreased resource gains from the base
3 planets are spawned in different sectors you cannot bring them with you that makes on sense they stay within there sector

Although this would have been a nice addition to other games.
It will complicate this game. Dan has a very nice core game already.
I remember when the game started there was NO NPC. We have enjoyed the NPC's and they are really great source of items.
I browsed a couple of other games with sectors and divisions. I felt it was BORING...
Sorry but the game mechanic for the NPC right now is already fine. I think before Dan goes this way he needs to add more content for high ranked players.
-1 Will complicate the current set up right now.

Why is it that some of you people think that a change like this will complicate the game or make it boring. I have been playing this game for a year and a half, I was here before legions were organized. I would love to be able to go to a galactic map and see where I am in the galaxy. I would love to jump into hyperspace every now and then and head into a another part of the galaxy. People love to be able to visually place themselves. That's one reason why WoW and all the other D&D spin-offs are so popular. Adding starcharts can only bring in more people and make more people stay. Sure it will be slightly more complicated, but I'm pretty sure experienced players and noobs can figure it out.

i have to admit, it would make alot of sense, as far as realism goes, i mean, there would be sectors bordered off to make things easier to find, and some of the new mission briefings would make sense, like when it says "travel to the Octfari sector" and then it would be unlocked. also it would make sense for some planets to be more numerous there too, i mean the unterraed planets would be in Every Sector. but it makes sense for some terraformed planets to be more numerous in other sectors. like the T.O. would have more Giai planets in there sector. Now i dont think that this kind of thing would "kill" the game, but i do see a problem where development space is concerned. i dont know how strong the GL server is, or how much Giga Bites it carries but something like this and being able to keep track of so many people would take up A LOT of space.
+1 for the idea tho, and Dan if it is doable id love to see it in

The original post used the example of a TO sector. With an increased chance of finding TO ships. Unless some new ones are added, I can see Telarys Carriers and Troop Carriers. While I would absolutely love to see more Troop Carriers, that in itself is reason enough to -1 this idea. I don't think I need to go into why having more Troop Carriers would be bad. Guess where everyone would be hanging out...

Support Shuttle T.O. Array T.O. Orbital Array T.O. Colony Ship T.O. Hammer T.O. Troop Dispersal Craft T.O. Armored Transport T.O. You'll now need to come up with their encounter rates, drops, rarity, hull, shields, atk, def, xp rewards, buffs/debuffs and you have a workable idea, oh an you'll need to do that for all of these proposed sectorsand their miriads of new NPC's, and what other effects occur whilst you are in these new sectors. This is a massive overhaul of the NPC arena you are asking Dan to undertake. If people want ideas like this to be implemented then you need to give Dan all of the information for your ideas right away, fully fleshed out, otherwise it ain't gonna happen for at least a year or so, as he's already working on several different ideas some of which don't roll out till next year.
