this is a question that should be in the Beginner forum... it is not an issue with the way the game works

Random events can now happen to planets.
Some events apply a temporary effect to the planet, which usually wears off in a week. (These happen automatically)
Some events activate the "Analyze" button on the planet. Upon clicking the "Analyze" button, a permanent effect is applied to a planet.

An "effect" is something that changes the way the planet works. It all depends on what effect the planet receives.

Do you have a more specific question?

Following on from Lycan's comment above, events can be the discovery of pure mineral deposits, which temporarily (1 week) boost your mining output on a single planet by 10%. Permanent events, which require analyzing, include the discovery of moons or rings around a planet. Moons permanently increase the available space of a single planet and rings permanently increase the output of all three resources on a single planet.

Note that you can also buy a Reality Transfuser from the artifact market for 64GP. The Reality Transfuser will instantly trigger a random, permanent effect on a planet.

Events may not always be good, however.

Planets that have had a Reality Transfuser used on them can still be affected by random events too, so it is possible, but exceedingly rare, for a planet to have both rings and moons.

To get a permanent effect by analysing you need to buy the new GP artifacts.

Sometimes planets randomly get temporary or permanent artifacts. I've found this happens most when a planet is colonised or invaded. I think some people have had planets randomly get temporary effects.

So...to analyse a planet you need to buy a GP artifact. It doesn't always give great bonuses though. Someone in my legion got a permanent 200% population boost on a colossal gaia planet. This isn't worth 64 GP. Moons or rings are though.

So instead of buying the artifact, would you recommend abandon and recolonize? Or is that a bad idea?
