At the moment, one legion is chosen and legion members leave and join the chosen legion. Until the advent of the Legion Base this was good enough. However, with legion bases being developed, who would want to leave a level 3 or better base behind? Especially when one contributed heaps. To make the development work attractive to Dan: The merger-artifact would be purchased for galaxy points. What could you get with a merger-artifact?- chose a new legion name & logo
- leaders and officers would retain their status/ positions (adjustments to be made manually after the merger)
- all members are transferred into the new legion automatically
- where combined members>50 only active members transfer, and members who contributed to a the development of the legion base
- if combined members >50, leaders could select from a given set of rules to determine who moves automatically
- all members left behind stay in their old legion, with the bases removed from those legions (its like a kick out of the legion)
- the bases were to be merged, meaning
EITHER
- [list]
- base enhancements (i.e. base artifacts) from the lower ranked base to be applied to the higher ranked base
- all contributions (energy, exotic matter, tech parts) made towards the next level from the lower ranked base to be taken accross to the new base
- where the combined contributions exceed the need for the next higher level of the base, the upgrade would be automatic and what is still too much counts as a contribution to the next level up
OR
- all contributions made to both bases are added up and the base level available from that would determine the resulting base level
- all enhancements from base artifacts are retained
- the highest level base modules to be retained (obviously the resulting base is too small for the modules of both bases to fit into the new base)
This would benefit smaller and medium sized legions and generally gain releveance as the features around the legion base expand.

I like your idea honestly though I don't think it would work very well for the game. [-1] If one leader gets this thing and uses it he is forcing all the members, officers and other members to either follow him or lose everything. Something like this would require all sorts of new mechanics that are not currently in the game, like member, officer and leader vote option or an agreement option. What if 4 leaders want to and the 5th doesn't do you force this person who may have given the most so far out of the legion giving all his hard work to someone else? A more simple solution might be to add a legion base demolition option that would give back 50% of [EM, TP and credits (no energy)] what was donated back to the donator. This option would require 50% of the leaders to click on demolition within a limited time frame, and would alert everyone to the vote. This way if a legion is about to disband everyone can get something out of it, even if some do not want to merge.
Just a thought.

Just a thought. sure, why not ... It could be that everyone votes to merge or not. Those who want to merge have their base contributions taken across to the new base, those who stay will keep a base with what they have put in. In effect you might end up with 3 legions and 3 broken apart bases. Not likely, but it could happen. In my view a merge should only go ahead, if things have been talked about in the legion internally. If the members cannot see the advantage to planets of a larger legion and the etxtra income through a larger base, then it begs the question: can they see reason at all? Or is their ego too big to fit the space of a single legion with 49 other members? Where members get left behind that are active AND have contributed to the base, now thats a nasty thing to do by any leader. Would you want (a) selfish leader(s) like that though? It all comes down to sensible talk and communication BEFORE the event is pulled off. Or, really, the leader doing it is not worth it.

You might be surprised, I am in contact with probably 5-10 legions a day or every other day. I myself was a loner for a long time sitting in a half dead legion with only 10 people in it until I joined Delta V2. It was not very fun being alone with no support and no one to talk to in game or ask questions of. Well now I'm a leader in a pretty big legion, but we still have members go inactive from time to time and have spots to fill. I spend time searching through the legions like the one I was in with one or maybe two active members and offer them a spot in our legion. Well it seems like it would make sense... join a large legion that can offer friendly support, alerts, shared supplies and over 100% legion bonus. But almost no one takes the offer, the funny thing is I get more replies "Why don't you join us", or a NAP offer then I do people interested in joining us. It seems to me that these days common sense isn't so common any more.
Like I said, I like your idea I just think you need to tweak it a bit so that no one can get screwed from it.

how about putting the limitation in where the total members in both legions to be merged is 50 ? that way it makes it more useful to do for smaller legions to band together

-1 ... ?
This is a pointless artifact. If you're going to a new legion, you're going to a new legion. The amount of resources it takes to build a level 3 base is nothing, when you get higher rank that will be a weekly thing (the amount it takes).
Dan put the 50 (or up to 60 in a lot of our cases) person limit in place for a reason. You already said it wouldn't go above 50 and others would be left behind without a base ... to me, sounds like no real gain anywhere, just a shuffling. So, some people would go to the better base legion, the rest would stay in the weaker base legion, problem solved.
So, what is the point of this? You're not actually gaining anything that you won't get back relatively quickly unless you're talking about high level bases and then that's a choice you make (although once you get there, few legions would just consider a shut down ...)

One important benefit of this idea is taking base contribbutions and adding it to a new base. I guess the Dysonians have never been part of a legion merger but I've been through 2, one before bases and one after. The work it takes to make a level 5 base isa lot for most players in GL. It stops legions merging. I give thios idea +1 because it'll help a lot of legions grow quickly, not only because merging boosts the number of players but it could also boost how close the base was to the next level up if this idea was implemented.

Still not a good idea ... Multitude of reasons, sets some notsogood precedents. As for boosting the number of players, just bring them in? Contributions are already not like they should be. Also, who really cares what the contribution is -stated- as being unless the base is set to contribution based (which isn't the best idea, IMHO)? The new players to the merged legion wouldn't lose anything, so that's not a real point. I'm not saying contributing isn't worth anything, I'm saying that the numbers that appear next to the name are semibroken and what really matters is the member helping -the legion- and not just the specific base. As for helping legions grow quickly, if they are having a lot of problems, then they probably aren't ready to handle building a legion. It's not that hard to grow especially once the ball starts rolling. There is not a single good useful suggestion in this. No offense, it's just doesn't bring in anything that can't already be done other than suggesting a fusion of bases, which IMHO is not a good idea. Does that mean that hypothetically all of the Top 10 legions could merge their bases together to make a number one legion of fifty superplayers? Sweet! 1mil resources per player per day! (see my point?)

It is easier at higher ranks to not worry about the massive energy and CTP contributions made to a base. It's harder below rank 500. The opportunity to combine the contributions would help accelerate the growth of lower rank legion bases after the merger.
Storms Torment SA has gotten itself onto the leaderboard pretty quickly so it's safe to say that Dave - the legion founder - is pretty good at building a legion. It's still very difficult for a 2-3 month old legion to get new players. Mergers are a common way for lower ranked legions to boost their strength. It didn't take us long to get to level 5 but level 6 is a long way away.
At the moment it's totally possible for all the best players to come together to create a legion of the best players. If the legion leaders of all top 10 legions decided to boot every player who wasn't in the top 50 then either merge the usual way or use this idea to bring together the base contributions - the millions of energy, CTP and EM plus CT Lab finds and base purchases (all within the restrictions of a single base of course - then it is possible. Both cases are highly unlikely.
I like this idea because it offers legions a chance to get to a higher ranked base faster as well as make mergers easier and more tempting. It works for the Dysonians too. Level 6 bases have much better rewards than level 5 ones.

Level 6 bases have much better rewards than level 5 ones. Except for the fact that what the legion says each member contributed is really irrelevant (unless the base is using contribution based distribution) ... You really want there to be a top legion of 60 members that have merged very highly built level 7, 6, and a lot of 5 bases ?! We'd easily have a level 20 base and everyone would be getting half a million resources per day ..... completely game breaking. That single suggestion is what makes this idea very poor. The rest of the idea is moot since it already exists in game.

I did not bother to read every individual post as of yet, but still would never support the idea of a forced merger that was originally introduced. That just would defeat all purpose.

1 piont i like about this suggestion is the taking stuff to the new base i personally made mistakes at start of game and spent gp on base mods and stuff and have had offers from larger legions to move to them but i feel the money would have been a waste especially in a small legion where if one or 2 of the bigger players dissapear others just stop playing
i wish there was a way to take stuff like that with you but i understand much more now about the game and i understand why you cant just move gp bought base things from base to base
the rest tho is sketchy at best and as has been said could be used in a very nasty way or even a game breaking way
