I have kinda wondered why higher ranking players have "16X Mega Rich" planets and stuff. So a question came into my mind: Does having a higher scan find you better planets or is is determined by rank? I'm just curious to know. I'd like some good planets like those and I fit is scan, I'm going to put my scan through the roof and find them. Before any of you say it. I'M NOT A CAT!

For the most part, those "high rank players" MAKE those 16x planets and whatnot by farming tons of NPCs that drop planet boosting artifacts. Sometimes we (except me apparently) scan other people's super good planets and are then able to steal them. The only advantage higher ranked players have in finding ones belonging to someone else is a tendency to have more decks to install top line scanners to defeat any cloak that a planet's owner may use on it.

So more scan doesn't equal better planets?

Normally, the planets that DO have cloak on them are planets that are worth hiding. Assuming the same cloak value on planets, your chances of finding a 16x VL Toxic are exactly the same as finding a Very Sparse L Gas.

What planets you scan is random, but the amount you can scan is based on your scan, like Darth said, more scan means you can scan planets with lower cloak than your scan.

So the more scan you have, the better chance you have of finding a good planet, because you have a better chance at breaking through the cloak?

Kind of, but you can find a 48x mega arti natural dyson, with 20 scan, but the chances are something in the region of 0.0000000000000000001 or something crazy like that. This is because, with 20 scan you could only probably scan 1 planet before having to increase it to scan another because the amount of scan needed to scan a new planet increases with each planet found. You could also find an amazingly beefed up enemy planet as well because there's no cloak put on it.
