This game is intriguing, and while I was originally just messing around with it, I have come back to it three days in a row, so there must be something to it! Just wondering if there is a real beginner guide on here, for someone who has absolutely no clue what they are doing? I already apparently chose the wrong race and profession according to what I've read on here, but am actively trying to make the best of it.
Also, as to legions, is it better to try to form a legion of players the same level as you rather than join in a legion that you're too weak to support? I love some of the legion names on here, and some of the legion recruitment threads, (pirates comes to mind... heeheehee) oh wait... (I meant harr harr harr!) but everyone is wanting players waaay above my rank, so what's a girl to do?
Some questions so far: What does "Badge" mean, and why would you post it to someone's comm? Am I supposed to go and try to gain a badge back like some kind of challenge? Or is it just someone wasting energy points to brag on a newb?
How can I increase output on my planets? I added population, but not sure it did anything there...
How can I stay focused on ranking up so that I can get some kick ass stuff in my kit, instead of spending research points on cool toys to take out other players with now... eyes on the prize has always been my mantra, but in this game, there's just so many ships to disable...
Anyone willing to help me out, I'd appreciate it muchly!

Anyone willing to help me out, I'd appreciate it muchly! Well to speed things up you need to join Atomic Force legion since they share daily research. Also check the beginners pub threads cause they are very helpful. Use your ranking points on decks and focus on at least large, rich planets or above. What ever you do try to get ur red badges from the BT tab as soon as you can cause they will be harder to get them at higher rankings. Welcome and good luck..

Ok, first off... Welcome to the game. Legions: You're best off getting in with an established legion. There are a bunch of quality "starter" legions (including one affiliated with the Pirates of the Cove) Race/Profession: Can be changed with an artifact from the Zolazin mission chain and with a little advice from more experienced players can be compensated for until you are able to change. Badge: In theory serves two purposes. (1) Lets the victim know it wasn't a personal attack and (2) Lets the attacker know they already claimed a badge from that person recently so they don't waste energy hitting them again. In practice it serves one purpose. To waste energy. Planets: Population is kinda like the Hit Points of a planet. You need to bring the population down to 10 or less to attempt an invasion. It has no effect on resource production other than taking space that could be used for production or attack/defense. At extremely low levels, I recommend colonizing 3 research, 1 mining, 1 artifact planet in cycles of 5. Ranking: At the beginning, you WANT to spend your research points on technology for your ship and planets. You need a good foundation before you can turn into a serial killer. There are a lot of additional pieces you can add to your ship from attacking NPCs. Get your PvP in early as it gets progressively harder at higher ranks. Best thing you can do is follow the Beginners Hub and Strategy forums here and browse through the Wiki. You'll find a lot of information and help from some very experienced players.

1. Welcome 2. Yes, it is addictive! Best game on facebook 3. Find a legion that is paying research out on its base. This will speed your early progress up by leaps and bounds. You will be miles ahead of what several of us early players had to do at your rank. But I would caution you not to rank too fast. You don't want to have a flying tin can. 4. Find some good friends who will float you the starting cash. I wouldn't take a mining planet if I were you until around rank 30; and maybe not even then. You can easily have a billion sitting in your bank and start building your ship (again, another advantage us early players didn't have) If you are comfortable with it, you can post your facebook friend link here. Folks who respond should put something like "GL" in the message box so you know where they are coming from. Facebook gives you a way to split friends into groups; so you can limit what "outsiders" see on your page. You can literally have just a group of gamers and have private content blocked from them. I will be happy to set you up with your first billion. 5. Most legions out side of the top 50 will probably take a brand new player. And, most will be happy to train you in the ways of the game. I would try to figure out early on what kind of playing style you would like to adopt. If you want a brute force killer, then you need to be in that type of legion. If you are mission focused, there are legions for that. If you want to "slow rank" so as to take your time and learn the game, then there are legions who have mastered that art (Ancient Untouchables for example) 6. Read the forums, but also be aware that the game is 2 years old and a lot of content has changed. There is some information that might have been good when we first started but that is absolutely crazy for you to do now. For example, the official beginners guide suggest that you spend some rank points on cargo bays. DO NOT DO THIS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! Hahah. Trust me, later in the game, you will be swimming in ship space. Again, with the right legion mates, they would be happy to "hold" some of your gear in "storage," or give you tips to get around the early limited space (like just buying and selling ship modules whenever you need instead of trying to keep them in your cargo bay).
Happy Hunting. See you in the killing fields!

Welcome to the game I'd suggest you join a "training Legion" such as Delta Destroyers. Most training legions are geared more towards research payouts to get their members a solid ship before moving forward in the game. don't rank to quickly, save any of your energy cubes/tri-matrix emblems that you get from daily rewards for when you really need them. try not to go to crazy with research as your upkeep will bite you when you're not looking, balance your planet ratio to 3 research, 1 arti and 1 mining initially. you'll work out your own ratio to fit your playstyle once you've learnt the ropes. just have fun and experiment, I'm sure most training legions will be only to happy to offer advice/make suggestions. Edit - Don't go OTT on planetary research, it can be a real nightmare on funds (+10s cost 200million credits, and 50 Kurenite each)

From what I've seen, the best bet for someone under rank 50 is to load up on as much hull as possible, and then add 3 dcks per rank, and use your 2 other rank points on tacical officers (permanent attack bonus). This will make PvP easier. Research hull until it starts to get a bit long to complete each tier. Research energy, weapons, and planet structures to make your ship more balanced. Join a legion who's base gives out more research. I'd recommend Delta Destroyers.

Darth Flag pretty much summed it up..
Raiders Of The Cove is a training legion to my legion, Pirates of the Cove (6th on Rank)... I am currently and officer here, we give tremendous backup to any sub legion, with rotations to the top legion coming every so often as you rise in rank.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the advice. There's so much info to digest, it's taken me a couple days, and still digesting it! How exactly do you rank more slowly? http://www.facebook.com/GreenFireflyGirlThat's my FB profile, and yes, please, put for GL... I have people grouped into what game they are from. I used to play OTHER FACEBOOK GAMES. This one looks like a keeper...

It most certainly is a keeper! Most of us on here have played other facebook games. This one is best by far.
Oh, and it is against the Terms of Service for you to mention by name the other games in this forum. Just FYI
Your first billion is on the way!

To answer your question about slow ranking, you will need to check out these links. I will be happy to put you in contact with ships who are currently slow ranking, but I want you to be informed about your options. You have shown great patience already by proving you are willing to do a little forum research to improve your game. There was some good discussion about going fast or going slow. Ironically, both of the players who mastered their respective paths have retired! Hahaha. One is Frail, the guy who is 3000 rank and the highest dude in the game. He just recently quit (or at least slowed down). The other is Derick, who slow ranked his way high onto the pvp leaderboards. He is also retired. Anyway, here are the links. I hope they help: Understanding The Slow Ranker Option viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8303Blakespoon’s Guide To Slow Ranking viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16182&hilit=slow+rankingTactical Officers vs Engineers viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17506&A Guide To Choosing Ranking Strategies viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16195&hilit=slow+ranking

Care to give me a link to that information? We have entire threads in the Galaxy Pub about Universe Genesis, STO, SWTOR, ME3, etc... Not to mention how ever many references are made to Farmville, Mafia Wars, etc...

To be honest, I was passing along what was told to me. But, if they sent me the link, I will look back through my posts to see if I have it. Let me check
And, just because we are doing it, doesn't mean it isn't against TOS. hahah
Edit: Darth, I looked back through my archived posts, but failed to see it. I am almost certain it was part of the answer when I created a topic asking questions about Banning. The topic itself is now gone (surprise, surprise). In any case, if I am incorrect, then cool, thanks for the catch. If not, then I hope someone will find the appropriate link for her/ us.

In any case, I've edited the post so as not to harm someone's sensibilities... but can't see why it would be against the TOS in a post where I'm saying this one looks like a keeper! I make a habit of reading a little of the forums for most games before I try them. This one, unfortunately, is really not that beginner friendly. It has a couple how to sticky's but they assume a little knowledge of the game, which I lacked. As I said, I've already made a few mistakes, including adding a little cargo space. This game has a steep learning curve, which is really the attraction for me, but I learn fast!
Now off to read the threads on ranking strategies... thanks!

Cash sent. You also have the option to reset your ship; but it is doubtful any errors so far are too difficult to over come (unless you put ALL those rank points into cargo. HHAHAA)

TYVM! Resetting would only be an option when I figure out what I'm doing, what I should have done, and if it's worth it to me to reset to fix it. But yeah, it's an option!
How do you send cash?

In GL you can send minerals, some artifacts (some are share only, and others are unsendable) and special materials such as CTP and EM by using the "Give" button (5 minute trade cooldown, unless you use a TM)
