Interesting, I made the same kind of module suggestion back in 2010. Remember, back then, we didn't have percent bonuses. We were trying to talk Dan into an 'Efficiency' research thread. From here: Quote: Energy Absorbing Paint: A special paint incorporating XTS-9 onto your hull absorbs both radiation emitting from your ship and active/passive scans: +3 cloak, +3 defense per hull, module size ?, max 1 per ship. (So at maxed hull 5+2 I believe, you are getting a +21, +21 from your hull. If you have less hull, you get less bonus down to 0 bonus for having no hull). Now, since there are 33 hull modules, this would actually give you +99 cloak and +99 defense when maxed out.

Being black really doesn't matter in space, considering that space combat is conducted over tens or hundreds of thousands or even millions of kilometers. Seriously, a laser can travel 300k km in a second.
So Black Coating? No. Adaptive Hyper-Paint, sure.

New module: I-Laugh-at-you plating. Gives +1,000,000,000 Hull.

So Black Coating? No. Adaptive Hyper-Paint, sure. yeah, which is why it should be something that absorbs the signals sent out by scanners, rather than just making your ship black... And its 300K KP/S not 350...

Description: Coat your ship with a black layer of hull to make it blend with the blackness of space. The sleek design also works as a crude form of cloaking. Well, seems like a good idea, but to make it realistic, you would have to remove the bonus when guarding a planet, as your black ship would be visible against whatever color the planet is. And also, as it was pointed out, when looking for ships, you primarily use scanners, not your eyes. But something that absorbs the scanning waves from the scanners in the paint of the plating could work... All in all, i give the idea +1, as im always looking for more hull. Yeah, i think he meant the black type of coating used in current B2 stealth bombers. Color is not the primary component, but the composition of the paint which absorbs radar. +1 to the idea as well, though i would recommend more yellow badges than blues. Blues already have 7 total modules and a consumable item, its yellow badge action that needs to be encouraged.

Having a window on a space ship, no matter how reinforced, would be comparable to having a sliding door on a submarine.

they DO have windows on spaceships though, and what about video cameras on the outside so you can look even without windows?

Also, in context, we are talking about battle ships here, not spaceships heading to the moon and back. As to the second, I do believe someone else was saying how most space-faring battles that use laser weaponry are fought ever large distances. Having video cameras on the outside would be the exact same as trying to look at a piece of straw sitting on top of the Empire State building when you are in Albuquerque. Almost impossible and almost entirely useless.

Almost impossible and almost entirely useless. Aye. Well said. And now imagine that said piece of straw is radiating enough heat to cook a turkey. Visual detection at such ranges is almost impossible, but using computers with thermal scanners means that just "painting" your ship a different color isn't going to help. The only way stealth could possibly work in space is if it either jams / spoofs incoming scans or cloaks the ship it protects. But my major complaint against this module is "Black Coating" is neither cool nor geeky. It's just lame. This is a Sci-fi MMO; things should have names that are both cool and geeky, or at least slightly silly or inside references. Black Coating wouldn't sound good in the automotive industry or the icecream industry. Polymorphic Exo-Coating... Hyper-Adaptive Nano-Paint... that's techno-babble. Lyricon Custom Job... that's an inside reference and three points to anyone who knows from where without looking it up.
