Costs 3 energy to use.
Quite simply, it lets you skip over a player on the BT, replacing them without you needing to hit them.
Why it's useful:
Saves the attacker 2 energy (and potentially a null) (and potentially a further 5 energy from the "bump" posts I usually get after)
Saves the defender's hull/shields, and potentially a trap

This isn't giving a free refresh - just a easier and less irritating way of removing trapped/NAPed/Known tough enemies from your BT
ONLY WORKS ON PLAYERS.

I am a fan of this idea, even if it cost 6 or 7 energy I'd like to be able to bump without the danger of tripping enemy traps. Maybe it could be an ability earned at the end of a mission like tactical remodulation (still operating as described above, a button that costs some energy and bumps the selected ship off the BT).

nope... mission chain, because it costs energy, and people are more likely to use red badges for bases

A mission chain would be good. Or how about this:
New NPC is released - 3 man NPC.
One of the drops is a 5 space ship module, limit 4/ship. The first module you get provides the ability, which costs 10 energy to use. It also provides, say, 25 scan too. Each subsequent one you install gives a further 25 scan, and reduces the energy cost by 2, lowering it to 4 energy/use.

The other drop (a more common one too) could be something like an energy sac containing 500 energy, but it's an artifact to be used on your base, contributing energy towards it.
