sometimes i am in the heat of battle, or i get exp suddenly from a shared npc thats been defeated and I level up when my ship is not configured the way I want it when I level up, you know with all relays off and all reactors in and energy sucking devices and stuff off so you get the maximum energy. So instead of ranking me up automatically how about a prompt box telling me that I have enough experience to be promoted in rank and am I ready? yes or no, if no leave it on my log so that when I am ready I can go to it and rank up. This would be a tremendous help to me

Well I mean if you are only a little energy off from ranking, it'd be best to just do a few missions and get it over with.

Then, the boss XP will go towards the next rank...

But yeah, that would be helpful.

However, it could be manipulated so that a person doesn't rank up at all.

The person could have the xp saved for months, and then press the button once, and he'd go up anywhere from a few dozen to a hundred ranks at once....

Another idea is to give you a few minutes before you rank:

EG Say you're at level 150. You need 125 xp to get to 151. A player in your legion disables a boss. You get 200xp. However, a countdown starts at 5 minutes. When the countdown finishes, you rank up automatically...

The XP that overlaps (the XP gained during the timer that exceeds the previous rank's XP requirement) goes toward the next rank-up.

Also, make it so you can't rank up whilst offline...

Put this under optional setting, because the below method is implemented in a way that minimize abuse at the cost of slight inconvinence(namely the 5 second freeze that will be described below)

If you would rank up while online, you get a 3 min countdown box, when the countdown naturally expires OR when you click "rank up" button on the box OR when you perform ONE energy-spending action, you would rank up. During the first FIVE seconds of the box popping up, you will be UNABLE to perform any action EXCEPT clicking "rank up". This is to prevent you from ranking up amdist a frenzy of attack clicks according to the "ONE active energy-spending action" part.

If you would rank up while offline, the countdown start when you first log onto the game again, in the exact same way. The countdown WILL continue even if you log off again, and you will be ranked up while offline if that is the case.

I think 3 min is more than enough to put your stuff in order. And it should be abuse-free in every way

+1 to this idea, levelling without relays is a consistent annoyance.

Without relays? Yesterday I managed to do it without cores. I have just over 100 engineers. I needed that energy for a change.

ok how about a button AND a five minute timer, that way you could ensure your ship is the way you want it but couldnt refuse to level up and if you are off line when you level up it doesnt start till you are online

wouldn't it be a better idea that if a shared NPC is down you have to clame it's expert points? that way you don't rank when you don't want but you set a max of how much exp can be left unclamed. that way you can't use it to rank mulitple times

Something like this would be nice but its not going to happen.
Dan made it so you have to uninstall everything one item at a time for a reason.
Most likely to slow down ranking even more, but i dont know for sure.
