Lesson 1 Battle reps mean nothing at all.
Lesson 2 When asking for help we usually need to see what kind of mods you have available so we can offer advice on optimal setups

General guidelines for getting your rep up:
Only use combat modules, as scan and cloak make your battle tab stock with stronger opponents. Do not hack. Use all your energy and aggressive actions for killing. Do as much killing at 1 time as you can, then lay low under a halc until it blows over and you have the artis to go on a killing spree again.
The longer you stay disabled, the less times you can get killed in retaliation, and the better your KDR becomes. Just plan ahead and you will be insane in no time.

Don't think halcs can be sent.

halcs can't be set within 24 hours of an offensive action so for the purpose of this there would be no point of puttting a halc on as you'd have to wait until you could no longer be seen by them anyway! same for calming amps!

Yes, combat rep DOES count. When I look in my BT, I would rather go for someone who's Laughable than someone who's Insane.

No, but they're always first choice.

I think their point is that many players will skip over an Insane rep - even though this isn't necessarily deserved - in favor of a Laughable rep (even if this Laughable would be much tougher than an Insane), due to (generally) Insane players being more PvP oriented, more often having better ships, and being willing to hit you back.
Doesn't mean all Laughables have bad ships, or all Insanes have good ships, but having an Insane rep can keep plenty of players from even looking at your ship.

While being an insane, I am hardly hit at all...You often associate them with having more hull and also attacking back. (This is not always the case by all means!!!) I have not been badged by someone around my rank for well over a month. But it has to be said that many of the lower combat reps often have halcyon or calming amp traps on :/

While it is true I haven't gotten badged yet since I got my insane rep about two weeks ago, my ship is definitely a lot more squishy than it was 100 ranks ago when I was laughable, if you don't set your ship up properly, it really doesn't matter what you're rep is

The problem is, many people will just see "Insane" and not even click the target button, leading to an Insane player with a rather bad ship being able to avoid being badged often. Whereas, many players will see "Laughable" and attack regardless, even though there are a few Laughables I've seen with some very powerful ships.

Dunno about anyone else, but I just pull the lowest rank regardless of rep. Because a rank 200 insane will usually be weaker than a rank 500 laughable. Obviously, not set in stone but 99%. Also, the reverse is true. If they see me and see I'm 90 ranks above, they're likely to be scared out of hitting back.

like everyone has been saying combat rep isn't everything but if you want to improve focus your research into the hull, weapons, and defense categorys. and focus all rank points on decks so you have room for the modules you research.

Whilst good general advice, telling a rank 20 with thetacrons to research weapons would be stupid, right? So I don't like general advice. It can backfire horribly.
