This is most likely the reason why none of the 30 other battle arena ideas have even been acknowledged by Dan.

I realize this and that there will always be a con with the pros, but we shouldnt let the cons overshadow all the positives that this would bring to the game,,, besides,,,when betting happens, we would only be betting what we have earned in the game anyway, or by trades and such,,,, yes, can things happen like in boxing,,,absolutely,,but guess what,,,they are still betting on boxing, and it hasnt shut it down,,, so

IM SUGGESTING THAT THE BENEFITS OF BRINING NEW LIFE AND ENERGY AND GAMERS INTO THE GAME FAR EXCEEDS THE FEW POTENTIAL SCAMMING CITUATIONS THAT CAN ARISE. :)

This idea has a lot of potential and it has been mentioned multiple times before, this could be the new legion bases that Dan is looking for or it could not be.

If you have a countdown for battles and time to place bets there is nothing to say during that time one of the players has an emergency and has to leave. This makes live battles a little difficult, you could make the battles automatic if you want the betting system. Possible suggestions are:

1: Auto battles with either unlimited or a set number of rounds, not difficult to program a loop for.

2: Have a max number of artifacts to be used (say 5) which players can set which round they want to use particular artifacts they have. Rather than spamming artis and the attack button you plan for possible opponent strategies and how you will defend, you may get it right and use a containment missile just as the opponent uses all his/her buffs or you might miss and fire early.

3: To help with the possible scamming instead of betting on the winner you bet on the round the battle is won or a draw after the max number of rounds is reached.

Just some thoughts... I had a few more but forgot them while typing.

People look at the Game Doom Forge.... its not a space game but look at the set up. They have a button for arena,,, and they have options of dueling, and online dueling,,,, i left this game a long time ago,,,but just took a look back and maybe Dan can draw some ideas from it...

I think it's a great idea and shouldn't be overly complicated to code. Time consuming perhaps. Really though, we need a big game update like this every once in a while. You have big projects and smaller little fixes and that is how games like this progress.

A few thoughts:
You should get "x" amount of artifacts for each fight.
If XP is to be given then there should be an energy cost and vice versa.

There should be no brackets. If, say, TheBlackPearl/PhantasyStar wanted to knock up a bunch of rank 500s he shoukd be able to. Whereas if both players must consent, Mento cannot go attack a nooblet. A rank/strength bracket would bring nothing to it and increase coding time.

Or, if Dan wants to be really] lazy, he could copy and paste a bunch of code from existing scripts, remove the bit that refers to traps and code a new targeting system, likely around 3 or 4 lines long. Damn that's alot of effort.

I made an analog suggestion previously and I am hunting for the thread.
A fellow poster had ironed out the implementation and it was bullet proof.

I was poster but the merit goes to someone else who posted.
Posted during last 7 months.

I read it and i think its a great idea, we just need as many people as posiible to gather here and say Dan, please consider doing this and making this part of the game. I think most people wouldnt mind a battle arena and new rewards and such for that kind of pvp play. Like I mentioned before, the game Doom Forge has a screen to where there are 2 options: duel and online duel. I think he can at least gleen something from that format, and take maybe part of all our ideas in here, and come up with something that is fairly simple and that will spark more excitment and new gamers.

I love it. One of my biggest concerns with GL is that there is no live action- you barely ever actually disable/raid/hack a player while they are in a position to fight back. +1 for this idea.
