i have a planet in mind it puts out 130 research an hour but it is held by a guy 100 levels over me in a maxed out legion. if i some how take over the planet is it better to try and hold it for 2 days and then flux it or do i take and flux all at the same time?
i plan to wait till i am stronger to do anything and see if i can close the level gap a bit. do you have any sugestion for my long or short term plans?
also, if i take over the planet and wait out the 2 days keeping total control and then flux it will it re-alert or will i be home free?

You shouldn't wait two days either way; the alert lasts for 12 hours so you'd just wait until after that.
Otherwise, it depends. If you think you can take the planet fast enough that he can't alert, or if you're sure you can hold it (by building a lot of population structures) then use it right away. That's probably the best course.
If you're not sure you can hold it and don't want to risk wasting it then wait twelve hours, but I wouldn't recommend it.

At the top middle of the screen, you can do a "search" for "planet flux." There are several topics out there about it. Assuming you didn't set off any traps, my short answer is flux right away. If you wait and guard, it gives the owner a chance to alert the legion that the planet has come under attack.

No, but if the person is online they may alert the planet to their Legion, which is what you have to watch out for. If you take it fast enough or they're not online then you're clear, otherwise build it up to defend it for about 12 hours and then it will be yours.

The best way to flux a planet? Wearing chocolate-flavored war paint while playing Gwar as loud as the speakers can handle it.

Watch out however, any traps set on the planet will automatically inform the owner, allowing them to alert the planet even if it has been fluxed.

best way to do it is wait till late at night invade planet then flux it build up defenses cloaks and shield send out a guard planet alert to your legion. i took a planet earlier this week from a guy ranked in the top five on the leader board 5 hundred levels higher than me and i still got planet 5 days latter but they will still attack you relentlessly

Level realy doesn't mean anything when taking a planet, especially if it has no defenses on it. The only time level comes into play is if you have to defend the planet. A flux mostly negates this.
This is how you go about doing it.
1. Put any buffs you may want on your ship before attacking. As soon as you attack the planet the alert is sent. If your lucky, based on lag, they might not get it for a minute or 2 but don't count on it.
2. If the planet has any defenses on it, use an Ion Storm Charge-reduces planet defenses by 30%
3. Attack the planet quickly. You want to knock it's pop down to less then 10 fast.
4. Invade. This is the clincher. You have a minimum 10% chance to fail, more if the planet has defense on it. If you pass, move on to step 5. If you fail, your screwed. It shows that you failed to take the planet, now the balls in their court and they can stack defenses, flux, etc because they know your coming.
5. If you pass the invade you made it past the hard part. immediately flux the planet. Now here's the thing. With a little practice, you can do all this in less then 20 seconds. Speed is important. The faster you do this the less time they have to respond, and with any luck you can do it before they get any alerts out on it. However, you don't know if they got an alert out on it, so you have to be prepared for the worst.
6. Defend the planet. Park you ship on it to defend and send out a legion alert to get your legion mates to help. Every ship adds its attack, defense and cloak stats to the planet which is then boosted by your legion buff. Buff your planet with artifacts. Put a longevity serum on it, use a cloning pods to max out the pop again (note: if your going to build pop structures on it, do this after you build the structures). Put on an ion repulsar charge, sentry guards, shield sentries, alarm sentries, and grav whip traps. AFTER you do all this use a planet vortex deflector. This makes it immune to artifacts (including yours, hence why you use it after). Most importantly they can't use unstable worm hole emmiters to warp you or your legion members away. If they opponent is around your level this will do fine. IF they're much higher, then raze all the resource structures except artifacts, and build pop and defense structures. Do not build attack structures. Wait 12 hours. If they haven't paid you a visit by then, the planet is now yours.

Very nice Silent! I would make one adjustment though. If you are going to be online for a bit and expect the return attack, then DO NOT USE THE PLANET VORTEX. Why, for the very reason Silent stated. It prohibits you from using more artifact either. I was in a real time planet fight once and kept using cloning pods (don't we all have a billion of those things... even after the 10 billion we scrapped!) Anyway, the point is, we were able to take everything the enemy threw at us and they were never able to get the population down below half (expect of course when they used that pop bomb... which was immediately reversed by a single cloning pod...hahahah. All that energy they spent to get it and they used about 4 of them on my planet, all of which got reversed.) Same is true of the wormhole. If your friends are online, they simply come back and reguard the planet. So, I say, let them spend their arties and the energy it takes to power them, and I spend 5 energy on a clone.

One thing i might suggest adding in the sequence... If it is a real beauty of a a planet and you still have it, you might want to consider dropping your planetary aegis on it too. +5000 defense for 5 days isn't insurmountable, but it definitely makes things a lot more difficult on the other guy...

Yeah Jugger, a legion mate of mine did that very thing this last week. It's nice to try and get them to burn needless energy, which means that's less energy they arn't using for other things, like coming after you. The particular person he was playing with we happened to be at war with and were doing some stiff fighting against, so it was a good way to get them to blow energy. I doubt most people would continue doing it after the 2nd or 3rd recharge though. If they're a much much higher level then you though, i'd skip it and just try and nail it as hard and fast as possible. Taunting someone that many levels higher than you is a good way for the whole opperations to head south quick.
@DF- Yeah I haven't gotten to planetary ageis' yet. Sounds like a real nice arti.

Huh? Check your artifacts. I'd say a lot of people burn their's on one of their first planets. I'm 145 and still have mine...

Ok, can somebody come back me up on the existence of the Planetary Aegis? I don't want anybody thinking I'm smoking something...

Yeah, it's there, even Nocifer has mentioned, in that he said he took two planets that had them on. I know it's been around for a while, though I don't know if it was there at the start, I remember being surprised when I saw mine, but I may've not noticed or just be misremembering. Either way, it is an artifact that you get when you start the game.

I don't know if it existed at the very beginning of time, but I have been playing for a long time and as I said, I still have mine.
