when I try to use it all it says is, "you don't have enough research to do that", and it's still negative

Just wait for you to get 19,951 in your research production...

ive seen it, just refresh and it should be fixed.
ive also seen xxx.xxxx amount used, notice the decimal point, it shows up probably once a month or so, i just write it off to the game having a very minor glitch, and showing me EXACTLY how much research i used. there are a few planets producing xx.xxx amounts, so why not.

It means you clicked to fast and the game deducted that amount 2x. So you went from +19,150 to 0 to -19,150. It doesn't happen very often but I saw it once or twice while spamming multiple tries on the CT-Lab

its a bug, in the end its kinda like a loan

you loan the research , use it , pay it back later

The xxx.xxxxxxxxxxxxx comes from being on the research screen when your hourly production comes in and spending it before clicking the Research tab again or letting your research in the top bar update (so it shows your production/h instead of 0). Then it spends your exact RP/h (and a bit extra). The way it works is the game stores that massive decimal from all your planets providing fractions of a point, and each time it adds up to over 1 it gives you an additional +1 to your RP/h.

I thought it was a decimal so I couldn't modify the value using Cheatengine or any other game-modifying program (illegal under ToS)... Not many of my planets produce deminals.

I have multiple planets putting out decimals:
.44, .104, .275, .28, .25, .3, .375, .775

That said, I only ever started noticing this past when I had decimal producing planets (several of them). The only way to test if it's naturally like that would be to have someone with absolutely no planets producing percents to have their research tab open when their production comes it, and spend it very shortly after.

It's a glitch, it'll sort itself out when you get your next shipment(s).

When i spent research, it was like 1987.104856046846854684869468. That couldn't have happened through my planets. I think the numbers after are randomly generated.

I'm curious as to how those numbers would stop us modifying it...
