Earlier today i helped in making a run on Exotica.

While I never realized it before, the haly is still a huge advantage when guarding a planet. Yes you can hit them while they guard but if you hit them then trip a trap then have to go to a separate screen to use a null fuse, then can't hit them because halyced, so have to go to planet screen to hit them thru that, the defender is gaining time to deal with your attacks.

If they aren't online its a moot point really. But if they are there is no way you're going to disable someone with a decent ship in those circumstances....

so my suggestion is this - can Guarding a planet be made an action that voids the use of a halycon effect? Calming amp as well if possible.

Before someone says i'm crying cuz i don't get the advantage, i'll be giving up that advantage if i ever try and pull it off myself if Dan does this.

I thinks it better play to have it voided.
sorry.

also if the planet pop regens to more than ten you also can no longer hit them.

the truce affect should be nullified by guarding planet.

Attacking a planet is an offensive action, so you couldn't use a Halcyon or a Calming Amplifier. So if you went on a run against Exotica and guarded it, you wouldn't have any advantage of a Halcyon Trap or a Calming Amplifier.

They're talking about guards.

What about the Xecti bonus? I've always thought that's unfair.

How is the bonus unfair exactly? When picking Xecti as a race you need some benefits, your giving up a lot of different very nice bonuses like Talth to be one. In regards to the OP, I agree halycons should be removed when guarding a planet.

I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding this thread... but doesn't the aura not apply already when guarding planets? I don't know about guarding Exotica, but I've been disabled while guarding a legionmate's planet before, even while I was under the effects of the halcyon aura.

Yes, but if you hit a trap then use a null fuse, a glitch causes you to have to go back to the planet screen and re-target them. That gives your opponent so much time to retrap that it makes it near impossible to get them down.

You can kill them while they have a halycon on if guarding a planet, you just have to do it by going to the planet then clicking target ship.

Ahh, so it's an issue with targeting the ship in a different window (i.e. not targeting the ship in the window where it's guarding the planet)?

actually thats not true.. attacking a planet is not an offensive action and will not remove a halc.
only when you try and invade a planet will it count as an offensive action.
however you can not attack a planet if you have a calming amp on.

i agree with the original post.. its hard enough as it is trying to disable someone that is online guarding never mind
them being online with and pacified. something needs to be changed

Steps to reproduce:
  • go to planet
  • target a guard
  • hit a krionus trap
  • click on "Use Other Artifacts"
  • activate a null fuse
  • close artifact list
  • can't attack target <- this is the glitch
  • exit out while guard notices their krio is tripped
  • go to planet while guard goes to their artifacts
  • target the same guard again and they're already trapped up and repaired
  • hit a krionus trap recursion detected

Because you are knowingly and willingly placing your ship into a PvP position.

No, actually it's not. The battle tab is determined by scan vs cloak and a random factor. That's the design of the game and you are given ways of avoiding and deterring attacks via the BT such as cloaking technology and halcyon traps. You really don't have much choice though if someone wants to attack you, therefore halcyons and calming amps are valid. However... When you guard a planet, you are essentially FORCING the attacker to engage your ship, especially if the planet has artifact immunity (like Exotica or PVDs). With artifact immunity, the potential invader has no choice but to engage you in PvP.

i agree with you on the point about excotica

but if you randomly scan one of my planets and i defend it im not attacking you im defending its there choice to engage me at that point i force them to do nothing

PLEASE ALL NOTE:

A Two or more screens is AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE. This is abuse of GL system and no one should be able to use two or more screens. YOU CAUSE THE PROBLEM, by using more than one screen.

Because of this, it does not need fixing. As exotica is Targetable by ALL players who does the mission, it is easy to TEAM with players in your same legion to take out players who are ONLINE.

Putting gaurding planet as a offensive action would have to effect ALL planets. Even if you just do it for Exotica, you have the problem of now the target legion who has exotica now will be targeted at ALL times and not able to Halc up when there gaurding and 24 hours AFTER.

Plus the targets legion, could have there planets targeted and taken as there unable to fully defend the planets. This means this is a even more UNFAIR advantage to other players.

Leaving it as it is best. trying to fix this problem will cause MORE problems.

FYI, why you can't attack the player who truced is because your targeted player through exotica has refreshed your page(s), so the planet has 11 Pop. so they must kill the pop to re-target the player. So i agree with how dan has done the current system.

So -1 to fix, it will cause more issues and hassle than its worth.

Please. Just stop. The above list I provided all takes place in a single browser window. If you are talking about chiaroscuro's question, please only quote them, not me. If you're talking about my post, please reread it until you understand that this happens in a single browser window, and then state any objections you have to fixing the bug in light of that.
