Evasive maneuvers (also known as evasive action, defensive pattern) are a sequence of defensive movements employed by starship commanders to evade enemy weapons fire, or capture. These movements were specified by predefined or on the spot course changes. Although each race uses different terminology for their evasive maneuvers, the tactics remain the same
My suggestion was using thrusters as an evasive method. adding a % to evasion for each thruster online. making it harder to hit a ship.

I would prefer this more as a temporary buff you get from an ability. Like, have a mission chain that unlocks the Evasive Maneuvers activated ability, which costs like, 25 energy to activate, lasts 15 minutes, and gives +10% defense and immunity to enemy artifacts.

An ability sounds like a good way of doing it. As a counter for making it too easy, the mission could have a chance of your ship taking serious damage due to failure of your evasive maneuvers during target practice.

I do agree that this game needs more ways to actively defend rather than spamming traps and nanos, then attacking back. This, in addition to a few other things, would give the game that extra bit it could use in that area.
+1

I think the amount of interest generated by the deepspikes, coupled with other factors surrounding player boredom, implies that this game needs a plethora of short duration small buffs and other small-window opportunities, so that players feel more actively engaged. Things like chance on hit procs, random effects, abilities that have windows of usefulness measured in minutes instead of hours, with cooldowns long enough that when you pop them is an important tactical decision.
I would like to see this ability have something along the order of a 2 hour cooldown. Let's call it a standard ratio, cooldown 8x the duration of the buff. As I said, that would make when you use it a somewhat critical decision. Thoughts?

I think more short buffs would make the game more tactical and therefore more interesting for sure yet if you improve ways of defending yourself to some extent you need to improve ways of attacking to keep the balance in PvP.

even with a 10% boost to defense a ship would not survive an attack from an enemy. i much rather see enemy ships missing an attack or 2. then doing damage to my ship.
im just going by the description of the thrusters. they are suppose to make your ship very agile. dogging enemy fire. where have you seen a ship just take pure damage.

The standard thrusters you currently have on your ship are, by definition, devices that allow you to dodge incoming fire. They give you more agility and speed. This is represented by an increase to defense.
