None of them have any defense other than that given by artifacts used to either free up space or add ones to resource artifact structures.

Alright it's been a long time since I was rank 30 but I'll do my best to help you out. -Unless your going SSB, which you may well be looking at your ship then those decks need to go up, drastically, early on they give the biggest boost to well, everything, from scan blitzes to PvP. -Unless those helmsmen are coming from AP draws, same with scientists then you need to stop putting points into them, assuming you have been of course. -I see you've done a fair few missions, maybe they were the easy ones you get straight off I don't know but don't put anything more into missions until you have all 3 dominion mark 3's ready fro when you hit rank 100, and all 3 of your proteans. Blue badge mods can also come in very useful later on for scan blitzes as well, but at your rank you won't have the space to install them anyway so their far less important. -You might want to think about saving up for the 4 mark 3 dominions for when you hit rank 100 and mark 1's become obsolete. -I would also suggest, as and when space becomes available that you install as many researchable weapons as you can, you really REALLY don't need the absorbant panels and the harmonic pulser so take those off as quick as you can and then try and use the space for a balance of hull and weapons, and maybe even a energy core or two if the space presents itself. -For now you want to try and max out the three most important stats for PvP which you should, and I believe are doing, which is energy, attack and hull, in whichever order you see fit as space becomes available. Try to get a balance between all three. Also use the wiki to find the most space efficient modules as a pose to just the ones that give you the biggest boost. A huge mistake I made at low rank. -You also want to keep off cloaking and scan altogether, except you may want to install one stryll hunt sensor when you get one so you can see some of the better NPCs that have 50 cloak. Shields and defense will come, much, much later in the game so don't worry about them at all until you max out your energy, hull and weapons. -I see you've given your research preference. A very good idea, research trumps arti in many ways at your rank. a) Because research gives you a much bigger instant boost at your level and helps you get bigger and better than any of your rivals. b) You may find it hard to fit all the artifacts you get at a lower level due to a small cargo hold. c) It takes a lot of arti points for it to come into it's own and a low ranker doesn't have the tech and the planets to effectively do that. -But don't neglect your arti altogether, you want a steady increase in it, and before long it'll come into it's own like I said. -Also with high research, mining becomes more and more important. Too many times have I seen low rankers making the mistake of putting too much on their ship and having too high an upkeep. What most people don't understand is the biggest obstacle to researchable mods is not the research to unlock them, but the mining to afford them. However at a low rank your upkeep shouldn't be high at all, and the undred units an hour you have should be sufficient for a while, that and you can always sell unwanted artis for an extra boost to your income. -Also what you need to do is stay on top of your upkeep, rather than just add in more ining when you start losing money you want to judge how much more mining you need before adding on a new mod so you can constantly keep making a profit. -Lay off graviton shearing, the higher the weapon level the higher the upkeep rise, and you don't have a lot of space on your ship in the first place so researching it is pointless. I had phased weapons till about rank 150 and I managed perfectly fine with them. -Your energy research isn't that important unless your going to equip some, but when you do decide to equip energy I would say get up to antimatter reactors and x-conduits, for the simple reason that it's at that point they start becoming worth the space. However energy mods are both deck and credit hungry so you want to watch out for that and get more mining as you need it. -Cloaking research you want to avoid, completely. -Nice work on the hull, you want to stay at q-phased for the moment though, so yuo can gather the space and the mining to afford guns and energy. -Defense is not something you want to equip, but it's good to set a bit of research aside for it, so that your not caught off guard when you do find the space or need to start adding it. -Sensors are something good to research for those scan blitzes so well done in that regard. -Your very advanced on planetary buildings for your level, I'm not even sure if I had +5s at rank 150. That research is sufficient for now, you don't really need to add any more until you've sorted out your ship a little. -Base research is a research hog, but I expect you already know that, at your rank it's too much effort for the reward, but at higher ranks you can unlock stuff such as the CT Lab and the UST so it's good to set a little, not much I might add, but a little aside for it, a bit like for defense. -Nice work on your planets, you haven't colonised anything horrendous apart from the gas your looking to turn into an exotic, which is a good plan by the way, but you may find that it both takes a while without GP and that the situation changes, remember to never colonise anything less than large, rich, although a trade off between size and resource richness is of course 'acceptable' to a degree. -Colonising those two very abundant gasses, may have been a mistake, but not a very big one, especially considering your plan to upgrade them which is a very good one I might add. Since it takes a while to upgrade a planet to max resources, you might want to start with something with a slightly higher starting resource, but since you've already colonised them, you might as well use them. -I would also suggest only uplifting the first couple or so for yourself, and then every one after that it would be a good idea to sell, either for 16x toxics for more mining to afford the new mods from the extra research or you can save up for a sweet artifact planet, although that may take four or five of them. -As for your raids failing, every rank up, maybe a ratio of 3 decks:1 tac officer:1 engineer might be a good idea. -If your having trouble getting your reds then go through your BT looking for easy targets even if it means the odd bump every now and again.

if you are going for a small ship build, you may want to consider slowing down a bit, or putting more of your points into your decks. Here is where I am at, level 42. But I have had some help building my ship though Energy , 290 hull, 1976 shield , 130 attack , 361 defense , 53 1 Protean Armory, 2 Merged Nexus Armor is everything that is installed on my ship. 72 decks 290 engineers 301 tactical officers 53 helmsman 70 scientists

But you should see our comm when we get new members , would put my tiddly post to shame.
