I had a recent discussion/debate on the nature of Bases.
This is in no way a complaint or a call to action, I am just curious as to what others think.

Heres the deal.
A shockpulse charger reads: " boosts attack by 20% against all non-player enemies for 1 hour"

Now, notice it does not say "NPC", it just specifies "non-player".
Shockpulse chargers do not work on bases.

So using the terminology set forth in game through the descriptions you are given "non-player enemy" and the assumed opposite "player enemy"

So regardless of the shockpulse, would you consider a "Base" "non-player" or "player". (obviously GL considers bases "player enemies" since an item that effects "non-player enemies" has no effect.

Keep in mind the term "character" is irrelevant here, and should not be mentioned, as the game does not mention it for the item description.

Any thing that has Attack on a red buton is an enemy. And i thought the surge plexi would work when i attacked bases and planets. They aren't the players themselves anyways.

There are four categories of "enemy" targets. Planet, Player, Non-Player, Base. Shockpulse Chargers give a boost to attack strength versus Non-Player Enemies or what is colloquially referred to as an NPC (abbreviation for Non-Player Character). Those are the targets that show up on your standard battle tab in the same way Player Characters do. You have to look at it with a pinch of D&D logic. The actual players that show up are like other players in the same scenario while NPCs are the goblins and orcs that randomly show up for you to slaughter. Keep in mind also, that when Shockpulsers were created (and the description written), Bases did not even exist. Obviously, long time players fully understand what is going on, but for the sake of newer players, perhaps Dan could/should rewrite the description so as to avoid any confusion.

The targeting alignment from the CT lab also shares this issue.

It has virtually a same description as the shockpulse charger.

I have not tried to use the alignment in regards to bases, but i'm assuming it wont effect the base battle.

The modules that provide defense seems to differentiate between "non-players" and "base battles" (IE Convoy shuttle VS Mega Coil)

Couldn't it also be argued that bases are a type of player enemy, given that they can be modified real-time by real players?

I was thinking along those lines. I know Darth gave 4 categories, and all 4 are relevant and correct, but the way I see it there's only really two categories. There are "non-player" entities which are created randomly by the game itself for each person and are there and gone (NPCs). Then there are "player" entities which are permanent (or semi-permanent considering Dan may intervene) fixtures in the game and can be actively influenced by the decisions of a controlling player or players (Planets, ships, and bases.)
