Right now, Obviation Barriers are extremely ineffective in terms of cost. I can hardly afford them. They cost over 250m to build and only give +1200 def. If you want good defence, just stack planetary shields to get the same defence for a fraction of the cost. This plan will make Obviations more effective. Also, with high rankers like Mento around, even 10 Obviations are useless and I think there needs to been a new shield tier.

New Shield (very strong, no name yet)
Def: 6000
Cost: 1500m and 50 Aidonium
Space: 3 (bigger than others)
Requires new Shield research tier.
Also, it is immune to Crimson Cluster Missles and Abilities(Only applies to this building, other buildings can still be destroyed).

Obviation Barriers

Old Def: 1200
New Def: 2500
Old Cost: 250m and 5 Aidonium
New Cost: 150m and 5 Aidonium

Planetary Shield

Old Def: 750
New Def: 600
Cost remains the same.

This will make obviations more attractive.

Obiviations are more expensive because they give 450 more defense than planetary shields whilst not being any bigger. Both of them sake up 2 space. I think that there need to be more research tiers though; more efficient shields to ward of higher ranking players.

judging solely on your post count, and outrage at the 'expense', obvis are not expensive, here is what ive pulled in for the last day

Kurenite 3287
Aidonium 424 and thats not even a full 24 hours.

after being down to 3 billion 5 days ago, im upto 46,801,474,470 credits on hand. and im stealing a planet a day at an increasing cost of 12.5billion.. i also give away about 5-8 billion daily, pay 7.4 bill for ship upkeep, and deposit 75 billion into the base every week or so...

Sounds like the Prejoran Slave Barrier. Except with production of course and takes up less space. Also why the immunity to Cluster Missiles or Sabbing? If this were implemented then the Saboteur profession would definitely become obsolete in the high levels yet the need for them would be otherwise increased because of these new barriers.

This is what the Trelith artifact that buffs standard structures is for anyway so I don't agree with the built-in immunity.

Sorry James, but I agree with everyone else. It's just expensive for you right now. We've all been there. We all had to slum it a time or two. Eventually, your money will even out and buying the def won't be a problem. However, here's the real thing you should be doing--- you should be focusing more on cloaking that bad boy. Every day that passes by, more and more ships get strong enough to easily take 20k def planets. Every single day, someone somewhere is adding more attack to their ship. By contrast though, even the highest ranked ships reach a stagnation point on their ability to scan. Your planet is absolutely safe from Mento or Remic if they can't find it; but you planet doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell even if stacked with defensive buildings if they do spot it. Moral of the story; hide it, don't defend it.

oblivions are fine. something i would like to see is a extension to the research trees which would provide better modules for everything.

Yeah, and 1200 def isnt much to defend against some of the top player. And stories of cloak not working... can dan make a better shield?

True, but cloak mods usually take a lot of space, and you need a lot of it, to stop the biggest guys from finding your planets, leaving little room for production. What we need, is more size efficient planetary cloaks.

Any cloak makes it less likely to be found.

Suggestion doesn't seem well thought out, as it will make it harder for lowbies to invade as well, but who do you think are the ones who aren't going to have any problem affording the new barriers?
High invasion costs already give some protection from high ranks.
While this would make it harder for everyone to invade, those you are trying to slow down will overcome the change much dater than the ones you are trying to protect.

Of course, that is true, but, if you want to make completely sure the planet is not scanned, you will need close to 20k cloak, and that, is hard to get.
And you're right, it would hurt lower ranks more than it would help them. Besides, it wouldnt take long before these shields as well would be obsolete.

The standard defenses are fine,
Specailly with the new artifact from the grivv that upgrades the planets defenses and cloak.

The is no problem, There is a ongoing problem with the savle barrier.
Size 20 and 6,000 Defense with not production output. (haven't checked to see if doubled)

It was purpose to be this Amazing defense. But no production, Limited prejon material and only 6,000 defense.
Its crap.

with the barriers you get 12,000 defense AND production.
This barrier needs to be re-created.

I say A, it needs to be 50% more defense than the standard barriers
Or b, You choose how much space it filled up, Every space it fills up give 1,000 Defense.
