...to play GL?

You see, Neopets has a referral program so that if you bring friends in to play, you get NeoPoints and other nice artifacts.

I wish GL would allow us to do the same thing.

If you don't want GL's referral incentive program to be like Neopets, then concoct your own ideas and explain how it would be more effective. Thank you. - Asheron

If there were to be some incentive program it would need to be totally intangible as far as benefits go. Programs like that are all well and good, but if they provide any sort of benefit that give an advantage to one player over another they drastically increase the rate of multis being created. Not a bad idea, just needs a final product.

+1 for idea
and also I agree with Follyuu.

I would definitely exclude GPs as rewards... maybe 100pcs of random artifacts/materials?
I think formulas for random drop already are in use - like daily rewards.

Me too... But like one alien star chart per person? It works, only one extra planet, and most likely a crap one too.

This kind of system can only go two ways.

Its either crap and not worth the time to do it, so people don't bother.

The rewards are good so people make tons of multiple accounts to rake in the rewards.

so this get's a -1 from me.

Yeah, there was. That's how I was introduced to the galaxy legion to be honest.

I accidentally clicked an ad on the side x) and I really regret it ;)

For incentives, we already have artifact shares and bragging rights over medals ;)

I've found the best way of getting new players is to walk up to a friend and say, "Hey, check out this game. I bet you would really like it." :)

Yeah, I started playing GL from a thing for free points in LoU (Lord of Ultima), a game that I quit for about 8 months before going back to it.

Take the site's member count and divide that by 10. That's how many individual people actually play Neopets.

And Dan's ads do a pretty good job attracting newbies to the game. The only problem is keeping them hooked. I made an idea to help keep those newbies hooked but apparently it's no good despite how ingenious the idea was.

I actually joined GL through an in game ad. It took me awhile to get hooked. But I'm glad I stuck through.

you get more people in the game so more good planets are made so more good planets can be stolen. I think thats a good reason to get people involved

i like what your going for asheron but i think the main problem with galaxy legion is not getting new players but keeping them playing. personally i think a better ingame tutorial would help keep the newbs around.

Agree about the tutorial. Even with it, I felt totally lost the first 30 minutes playing, and would have quit had my friend not constantly bugged me about checking in and receiving my legion shipment. The steep learning curve + not much you can do at lower levels just makes them kind of a dreg. A tutorial that demonstrates some of the cooler things you can do later (planet invasions and upgrades, base attacks, etc.) might be a better hook for new users.

As far as incentives go, new players are great, and a small reward for people who bring in new players might be appropriate... but frankly, I like that this is the only game on Facebook I've ever come across that doesn't pester me every 30 seconds to invite everybody I've ever known in my life to join in.
