So I stopped off at Imperium of Andronicus earlier this week, in hopes to get my "Eureka!" Medal in a weeks time, but due to my Legion's current standing with the Infinity group of Legions, I had to return to Icarium's Fate to help sort things out.

I had arrived just after the base hit Level 6, and I watched it go all the way to Level 7 over the course of about three hours. While Namalak donated energy, at two-thousand per go, I mentioned in comm that the cap for donating Energy to Bases should be scaled to your current Rank. I've decided to take myself up on that "thought", or "idea", and actually go ahead with suggesting it.

It is unlikely that it'll be used, but I strongly believe that we'll all be like Namalak one day. We'll all have very large Energy bars, and we'll all be leveling up Bases to levels beyond our current ability. Can you imagine a level 20 Base, with New Artifact producing Modules? Possibly +550's? :o

The above is a bad example of how this could be put to use, so just hear me out when I say it takes too long to build Level 7 Bases at 2,000 per go. The original purpose of the cap was to stop people auto-ranking on Base donations, but if you're rank 2,000, it really doesn't make a difference, does it?

Now, give this thread the +1 that you know you want to give it.

Your rank is irrelevant to the reason it was implemented. While it may comprise a smaller % of a total level for a higher rank, that same boost of XP at the end of a level makes the same reduction in energy required at the next rank. Most who auto rank can already do it without relying on the legion base to do so, so I see where you are coming from, but the 2k cap doesn't become less effective at higher ranks.

Also, between the energy donation caps, the 1 week waiting period to donate to another base, and the lack of a protection period during the first week of a base creation when loyalty has not happened yet, its pretty easy to deduce that Dan doesn't want us just popping out lvl 7 bases all over the place. Players have been ranking and powering up far beyond Dan's original projections, which is why we are seeing him struggle to keep up with demand for new content. Simply put Dan doesn't want us making lvl 7+ bases in the course of a day because that just makes more work for him when he has to implement more mods for bases, bigger levels caps on bases, etc etc etc. He has gone out of his way to make speed ranking a base as painful as possible to save himself the headache of being pigeonholed into improving bases to keep up.

But I am not a bad guy...

And a little presumptuous of you to declare what Dan does or doesn't want.

Honestly I think you were totally fine to do what you did considering it's a game and that's what you felt like doing. More power to ya.

Not presumptuous at all though, as I said "It's pretty easy to deduce..." In other words, all signs point to this conclusion. I make no presumptions that I can speak on behalf of Dan, only point out that the things we have seen come from him point in an obvious direction as to his intent.

Yes, seven hours of donating was totally what I wanted to do. :P

You wanted a 7 and wanted to do it as quickly as you could and mostly alone. That would have taken you the same amount of time no matter how long you spaced it out. So in that sense, you knew the process and went for it, so you did want to spend seven hours donating lol. Just a means to an end.

Heh, well at least give me the +1 for actually putting a little thought into it. This section of the forum lacks that a little.

scale it with exp-left-to-lvl with a floor of 2000. that way everyone should be happy and it's not gonna hurt the game.
by scale i mean that if it's using the scaled number(instead of 2000), then you can't possibly lvl with the donation, even with mem and NI

In other words if you need 20k exp to level, you can donate up to 19,999?

or 19998 "exp worth", sometimes 1 extra energy can give 2 exp~
but yeah, that's the idea. As far as I see the only reason the cap is there is for over-the-lvl-exp and if the higher cap, when applied, won't make u lvl then it's not a problem.

Yeah I could see that. Solves half the problem at least lol

The only issue is that it still makes leveling bases much easier. As Nam pointed out I can't speak for Dan, but speaking purely from a player standpoint I wouldn't want to implement anything that exacerbates the problems we are facing of players ranking beyond content, and quitting. (In this case ranking their base rather than ship.)

Base content is fine up till lvl 8 (maybe excluding crates)
And the cost from 8 to 9 is crazy.
I dint think speed ranking bases is a problem.

If base content is fine up until rank 8, why is it that if you max space on a lvl 8 base (A base multiple legions have attained, including 1 solo player) you will have more space than you can fill with mods? Beyond lvl 8 there is nothing new to add, all you accomplish is raising your dmg cap further. Eventually, this will become an issue. I would rather have players sit there staring at a wall of millions of energy needed to level up to 9 and think "Wow chipping away at that 2k at a time will take FOREVER" and not try to sprint to the finish so there is time for Dan to eventually add new base content.

eh theres enough to fill up the space from ranking from a maxed 7. if they didnt plan a bit then well i guess they can wait. based on the holiday trends we are due for a new base mod in a few weeks to a month or so.

p.s. at least one person is already preparing for that so called "sprint"

I do not like the idea of not being able to rank off the base. That is all I'm trying to do right now. I want to auto rank off the base donations and if Dan changes it so that I can't do that how I'm planing on doing it I will be very very upset. lol I think the way it is now is fine. Sure it takes time but such is the game. There was another thread about this that had a really good idea for this but I forget what it was called and don't really have the time to look for it. lol

I know because base modules are all the same size regardless of quality and all limited to 12 per type as well as being tied to their respective research tree. There are no new base modules to add in standard space beyond level 5.

Installing every extender at lvl 8 gives 160 space. Including GP items there is at most 152 space worth of standard space mods. Dan may add more GP mods in the future, but there is still room on a lvl 8, and that will take time, which is why I prefer the slow and steady pace we are being forced to adopt.

You by no means have to agree with me, I'm simply stating my opinion on the matter. If we had more base content, I would be all for raising the donation limit, but I am too tired of seeing people rank beyond content and complain that there is nothing left for them to do for me to want to speed up base ranking even further. I've followed the same ideology with my ship from day 1. I've found what I see as a happy medium between auto-rank and slow ranking, and I hold myself to it. I experience the game at a pace that keeps me from being bored, while still assuring I have new conent in the future and don't outpace the content that is being released.

attack and def are both 2 space each so thats 24*2=48
hull and shield are 4 ea so thats 24*4=96
add four for two bane turrets
and another four for comm links
and yet another four for the scruuge hulls

48+96+4+4+4= 156

and @mojo: Uy23e's suggestion wouldnt hurt what you are going for at all. (you were the one i was talking about)
he was just saying make the limit higher except when you are close to ranking. at that point it would revert to basically what it is now. would make your job alot easier. it would mean you could dump enough e to be 1 exp away from ranking up, then go and dump 2k more. it just wont allow you to put more than 2k in if that would rank you.

Eh, so I wrote 152 instead of 156 when I translated the info to my post, the point remains the same. There is more standard space available on a base we already have than there is standard space modules to fill this space. From a defensive standpoint, there is no reason to pursue a higher rank until more content is added.

EDIT: found the problem. I added up using the wiki to verify I had the right numbers, and Scruuge Bastions are not yet listed in the modules list on the wiki. That would account for the slight difference.

this sounds alright. as long as people can't auto rank off energy donations im cool with it.

im betting they are maxed soon though. my bet is on a 2 space shield mod max 2 gp cost of 80 or so and it adds 16% shield.
either coming with q pedds, or the auric stuff.
