Me and some of my legion members got to thinking, why dont we have something that tells us how many slots for new planets are left for our rank?
Just a thought, but could we see something like this in the future so we dont have to manually calculate how many open slots we have left?

this would be a great idea. not everyone has the the formula memorized for how many planets you can colonize.

Just divide your rank by 4, add 1, and subtract the number of planets you have colonized. It's easy enough that there is no need to add a counter.

Wow some of you guys love defending the status quo in the suggestions forums, don't you? The whole point of this forum is the introduction of new ideas.

Spaceman wrote: -1 It takes seconds to work out and very easy to remember By that logic, why bother showing the effects of attack buffs or debuffs? Just look at your effects and calculate it. Easy as pie! Levrosh wrote: Just divide your rank by 4, add 1, and subtract the number of planets you have colonized. It's easy enough that there is no need to add a counter. How much XP do you need to rank? There's a formula for that, no need to have the computer calculate it for you. senatorhung wrote: manual calculation ??

-1. Why have any game engine at all? We can do the whole thing with spreadsheets and dice, have ourselves a very mathy play by forum posts RPG! One ( slightly misused but gets my point across) word: LudditesI agree with the OP, even if I can do the calc in my head after playing so long, it's not necessary, and the game could easily do it. It could even do it all client side, all the needed data (your rank) is there, just a bit of CSS and HTML to make a spot on the planets page to display it, and a hundred or so characters of JS code to calc it and display it, won't load down the server any more either.

'avoiding judgement' is fine for brainstorming sessions.
however, anyone posting in this forum should be prepared to justify their ideas. the best suggestions are those which have already taken the most obvious objections and dealt with them in advance. failure to do so will result in automatic -1s from many forum regulars.
i have been ranking up my bane every day that i can so you can be sure i keep a very close eye on how many slots i have open.
there's already a column for 'max planets' on the wiki for every rank up to 260. after that ... most people have more slots open as they get pickier.
you can only conquer one planet a day.
when you run out of slots the game lets you know.
so where is the benefit ?

Well, i am torn on this one.. On one hand, there really isn't much point, as already stated it takes mere seconds to do in your head, or on a calculator, and if you take 5 minutes to memorize the formula, you wont need to worry about it. Levrosh wrote: Just divide your rank by 4, add 1, and subtract the number of planets you have colonized. It's easy enough that there is no need to add a counter. Then on the other hand, why not? Would save me a few seconds of math every other day, and it shouldn't take Dan long to do it.

It's as easy as 1+1=2.. you don't even need to think about it to know the answer..

But only if it shows under the "Planetary Logs" section of the Ship Log after colonising/invading a planet rather than being a permanent display somewhere else. Yes we could just look it up easily using the formula for it (or ask other people what the formula is).
While some people appreciate ideas that save a little time in this game, there are some areas that the Devs see as a priority for much needed improvements.

so where is the benefit ? The benefit is that most players no longer have to guess about their remaining planet count. Yes, you can calculate it if you know the formula but why should we have to do that? The point is why fight something that, while small, would in no doubt benefit the GL's gameplay? This would benefit everyone, especially beginner players still getting a feel for the game.

XxDarthDexterxX wrote: Because we'd rather see more useful updates. False premise there. It's not like this one request will necessarily trump others. If you want to vote down every request that's not in your core "I want them now" requests, that doesn't even begin to count as constructive discussion of new features. And as for the "if it's quick, why haven't the other quick things been down" question, we all know there's more to the troop carrier question than how quickly it could be changed simply because of how nothing has been done on it when similar rank requirements on NPCs have been updated in the past with less clamor around them. Don't bring them up in every other feature request thread either, it's not constructive.

If you can colonize it, you have an open slot.

Why not put it at the bottom of the planets page next to "Showing 1 to 10 of #### planets"? There's plenty of room there. Something like this:
