I am just adding to the list, this is simply nominating I thought, not voting. Anyways, I see a lot of other active forum folks that I would've nominated, already being nominated, such as Varun.

I think: 1) we make now the list 2) Dan should have a look and filter if needed only people he would cooperate as Dev and Mods should 3) keep on mind pls, that in case the new mod will have RL issues or other reason to be less active, we will need a replacement. Btw, we are looking for 2 new Mods now, right?

It's indeed not voting, this is only to make a list of potential mods with reasons why or why not
thunderbolta wrote: I think... it's hard to nominate a moderator. I suspect many people will merely nominate their friends, or their legion mates and it is hard to distinguish who is doing so. Indeed, that's why there have to be reasons to keep someone on the list With all that said, I'm not sure who I would nominate. To a point, the people who spend a ridiculous amount of time on the forum are those who will be able to do the job best. On that front i would nominate myself, but heck. i ain't breaking my own rule!
I'm somewhat flattered to see my own name listed there. I would certainly not complain if I were given the position. I would like to be the moderator, and I think I could do a good job of it. This was a nice and constructive post, please follow his example.Flux wrote: I think: 1) we make now the list 2) Dan should have a look and filter if needed only people he would cooperate as Dev and Mods should 3) keep on mind pls, that in case the new mod will have RL issues or other reason to be less active, we will need a replacement.
Btw, we are looking for 2 new Mods now, right? Dan has not said how many mod's he's looking for, but 2 is a safe number.

From what I can tell..."we" aren't looking for anything...it's Dan's call. This thread has gone into the direction of picking Dan's future mods and that's just dumb... If the goal is to create awareness regarding certain people and their potential ability to be a successful and impartial moderator, then this needs to get back on track

saw my name on a list here and while i am flattered, i think that watching for wikispam is enough for me. the only reason that i suspect that i sound reasonable on the forums is because i have killfiled nearly 30 forum posters as 'foes' - not a very diplomatic way of handling things, but it helps maintain my sanity and composure.
my noms for forum mods would go to Mojo, Annabell, and DF for overall fairness in the line of fire (assuming DF is correct that they would get an alias account for their mod work) and ongoing interest/activity. for the low/slo rankers i think TBP might be a good rep, if he is interested in the task.
basically, you are looking for mods who have enough experience with the forum to know when someone is seriously out of line versus blowing off steam. the ban hammer (even if temporary) should be wielded with restraint - most disputes should be settled with p.m's out of the public eye. but there should be some indication by the mod on the forum when a situation has been resolved and how.
i think Dan should consider having a separate person nominated to be the go-between between the forum suggestions and the dev team - someone with a decent understanding of web/game programming and who can help suggesters mold ideas BEFORE he/she brings them to Dan's attention. this is different from a mod role, but should still have mod powers to meld 'like' suggestion topics together. organizing those topics into 'types' of changes (new content, bug fixes, interface improvements) and prioritizing these should be the expectation, not putting out flame wars between those who +1 or -1 an idea.

Allright, i'll separate you from the list.

Thanks for starting the thread.
Here are some of the things I am looking for:
* Willing to log in frequently * Answer questions for beginners and other posters * Some experience with moderation a plus (especially merging topics and posts) * Enforce forum rules when necessary
Although there are many nominations, it would be easier to know which members are actually interested in taking on the role, and we can go from there.

I'm sure a lot of people fit requirements 1, 2, and 4, but not so sure about 3 ( Some experience with moderation a plus (especially merging topics and posts)) ... However, there are probably a lot who do fit that, so let's hope those who do fit that requirement see this post.

I already log on quite a lot (at home most of the time), answer questions if i have the answer, don't have experience with merging topics/posts but that can't be hard, and enforcing the rules? no problem.
I'll just have to keep my opinions a little more to myself.

I'll just have to keep my opinions a little more to myself. I would nominate myself in that case as well, however, I am not experienced with merging topics and posts, and as Dan said, that would be a plus. I am on very often every day, unless I have something overly important to do, can help answer questions, if I know the answer, and of course I can enforce the rules. ***EDIT*** I am Eastern Standard Time (EST).

I can do it as well. But no way I could handle it all. How many mods should be made?
I'd happily stop derailments and off topic posts where appropriate.

Also, if you wouldn't mind (and feel comfortable doing so), please post your time zone when sharing interest. It would be nice to have moderators in various regions.

Although there are many nominations, it would be easier to know which members are actually interested in taking on the role, and we can go from there. Sure i'll moderate. I can check in frequently, and answer questions. I do have moderator experience under my belt from a few other forums I help manage. Enforcing rules I can do. I live in California. Atm it's 6:01 PM.
