another idea what about team combat like red team vs blue so 1 red is matched up against 1 blue and bonus creds or reward if most of your team members win their battle

Legion Vs. Legion Challenge based on Legion rank/strength/ and player numbers. like in Warhammer, you have a set point cap for your armies, and you build it up to that cap then fight.
A Ladder Challenge so the hardcore players can beat the crap out of each other for the "king of the hill" spot without making it personal and dragging everyones legion in.
One on one single combat challenge based on level and power.
Legion Vs. Super Giant space monsters, similar in essence to Castle ages' summon beast by assembling artifacts together to conjure it up for the challenge. A legion Wide NPC battle. In example: The Borg at Wolf 359

I Rather vote for changing halycon trap back to effect NPC tab! How is it that everyone likes an idea but you ? You come in a thread of mine and make a similar post. I think you have a problem with the players that are making the ideas and if that's the case go take your frustrations out somewhere else.

Well the idea is copied and pasted from MMORPG games. There isn't really an arena that would hold multiple galaxy destroyer ships. Any other name probably wouldn't be "cool" enough to make people think what they are doing isn't pointless. If it is an excuse to get rid of what you don't like about PVP, then get rid of those things altogether.

I didn't see it as an excuse to get rid of somethings about pvp, but simply another way to add to the pvp experience. I see nothing wrong with an Arena style part of the galaxy too. In terms of "cool" names or storylines, it is not hard to conceive of an underground "fight club" type of organization in some remote dark region of space. It takes nothing away from current game play; so I don't see why it would be a threat to people who don't pvp. And, since you can chose to enter or not, then you have the added benefit of everyone knowing full well they will be attacked. Quite frankly, I think it may cut down on some of the bullying if all the bullies are in one place bashing each other! I consider it a win/win.

why not have a minimum ship level of 120 or so, that way they have been around for a while, know what they're doing, have a relatively good ship for their level, and will be able to have fun and do some damage in the arena.

true, but a level 48 won't have the same amount of space as a level 98, to fit enough guns to be able to do any real damage. that's why I think there should be a minimum level cap, that way there will be a guarantee that the match will be fair. and lets say that anyone under 100 fought they have to fight someone within 10 ranks of them self, it's closer in rank, and that way it will be a closer fight.

I believe that i brought up something like this in blitz's thread last week. There needs to be a place were people can go and do a real-time PvP. you can even keep the battletab with its traps and all, just add a new tab for PvP and add artifacts and whatever for the new system. Maybe set up a numerial value for someone's ship strength(attack, defense, etc.) and match them up with someone that has a similar value, then let them go at it. Bring in a wager match to, you could bet credits, or minerals, maybe even rare npc's drops(modules) winner takes all. I thought something that would be cool would be to include an A.I. alien race that can attack, hack and disable your ships and take your planets, but i'm just throwing that out there. The Militia

This would be a great addition to the game, let the guys who want to fight go at it and surely it would be fairly easy to disable traps when you go into the arena. Great fun for all of us scrappers

First I want to emphasize I play GL as a hacker and rarely gain rank by attacking. I am in what I would call a strong legion, but I realize not everyone is. Now with those qualifications I think the idea of having a Battle Arena is a good idea.
First and foremost this Arena would be consulting players. I think all players that participate should be exposed to all other players that participate, but the twist is that the points accumulated need to taper off for players that are overwhelmingly higher rank. Nathan stated that only players within 50 ranks should be able to attack each other. I would like to open that up to anyone can attack anyone else, but the payoff need to diminish as the attacker becomes higher and higher rank. Players that win against higher ranking, whether it be with their legion or on their own, should receive greater rewards since the likely hood of them winning is less.
I would like to see this Arena be implemented more as a legion activity than a single layer, but that is perhaps a second or third phase of this proposed idea.

I love the real time idea! And, I think someone else suggested a required time as well as rank. So, if you enter the real time arena, your ship has to stay for at least 3 hours or so. I agree with that thought. My only question/ debate is about how you match ship to ship. I mean, ship strength can be so deceptive. It only measures what you have currently equiped, not what you have researched or availiable. I could see an easy exploit where someone enters the arena wearing a bunch of scanners (so they would be put in a lower catagory), then changing out to att/def mods. Clearly, this is why some legions float up and down on the leaderboard str score... depending on how many of their ships are in scan mode verse att/def mode. There needs to be a better way to measure ship to ship fights than ship str in the arena.

I agree having the att/def mods be the key factor in determining scoring, but to save on server load, perhaps a player will have their mods locked after entering Arena. Otherwise the system would have to constantly keep recalculating mod changes, trying to keep up with player changes.

Well a Simple fix would be that Once you locked in for the realtime in the battle arena or whatever your not allowed to modify your ship, till your time in the arena is over. What you enter the zone with is what you have.

I like the idea of the Battle Arena. I'm tired of tryna do a lil PVP and keep hitting a trap everytime i do one hostile action, its getting old fast.

Sounds like a good idea to me , would need a spectator mode and a way to place bets in minerals or credits . also a good way to take care of grudges without draggin whole legion in or the possibility of being alerted
