Hey, I have a little rank 20 friend that I got hooked on the game. I would like to get him into a decent research legion to give him a headstart on his tech. There seem to be less and less research legions out there these days. So I would appreciate some suggestions. Would prefer ones that don't have dead comms and bases that aren't constantly disabled... beggars can't be choosers though. Anyways, thanks in advance for the suggestions.

P.S. If possible post the research output of the legion you are suggesting.

Correct, even share all the time, also Imperium of Andronicus is a research legion too i think, level 7 base, but the Imperium legions are known for % shares

You would be doing your little friend a disservice.

The reason there are fewer and fewer research legions out there these days is because the bar for what serves as "acceptable" artifact production keeps getting set higher and higher, leaving the poor lost souls who focus on research further and further behind. Smart, active players know this, which is why they flock to artifact legions, keeping the comms lively and fun, helping to keep the base from getting disabled twice a day.

Send your little friend to an artifact legion; their ship will get stronger faster, they will receive a better education, and no doubt there are players there willing to share unoccupied/dropped research planets that will serve their early scientific needs.



BTW: there is nothing wrong with going to a research legion for a few weeks if you feel like you're really falling behind in that area, but that solution is another problem in itself: once the research is got, what's the point in staying and falling behind your friends and competitors?

I know all about the value of starting off in artifact legions. My friend recently ran into an undefeated rank 15 with over 4k hull... spent 150 GP on energy and ranked way way too many times killing the guy (I was laughing the entire time). So now his tech is behind most of the ships on his BT. A little time spent in a research legion before heading back to an arti base is what the doctor ordered. Or maybe he will like it there, it is up to him.

Why doesn't your "little friend" look for a legion on his own?

I'm looking for a legion for him because 1. he doesn't know what he is doing and 2. so he doesn't end up in a legion with you/someone like you, I want him to like the game. Not get annoyed and quit.

Oh? And what is someone like me? I do a lot for the players in my legion, and I encourage them to play with a little bit of pride. I could make a great player out of you "little friend" and help him create a wonderful ship.

And yeah, the difference in researched mods makes a much, much bigger difference at lower levels, so in little friend's case, it prolly does make sense to catch back up. Awesome he finally killed the other guy at last. You gotta expect that anybody rank 15 with no kills and that much hull is going to have their whole week ruined by that disable
