Hey, I was wondering if it is more profitable to have VL 16xMR Toxic planets for your income or C 17xMR Plasmas for your income.
I'm planning on dropping all of whichever is less profitable for more artifact planets, but I would like to know which ones are better.

Also, if you have the time, could you tell me how much more profitable it is?

Thanks very much!

Research(@ 5k per hour)=125,000,000CR
Mining(@ 5k per hour)=143,662,759CR
Mining is more profitable

As Awesome813 said mining is more profitable on a point by point basis, and also gives you EM. Everybody needs EM.

Drop all the research planets. You'll be pulling in android scientists anyways so you'll eventually have more research than you'll ever need without wasting a single planet slot on it.

Well it was an ill considered idea in the first place.

Awesome! That is 20 odd extra artifact planets I shall be picking up, then! :D

IF you are not going to invest in storage towers(or only invest in AP towers) and they both fill up in under 8 hours(or however often you are willing to collect, 8 hour is for sleeping but if you set alarm to wake once in middle, 4 is fine), it is very very simple: make it so that the two fills at roughly the same rate. Chances are, the scientists will make it so your RP fills faster eventually, but then and only then should you ditch the plasma slowly and/or get more toxics. Before that happens, as long as the fill rate are within the same amount of hour count(round up), they are pretty much the same.

But if you are willing to invest in storage tower for MP/RP, toxic is better, because it's cheaper that way--the CR/planet is roughly the same(see below, too little to be of importance) and RP will require more towers and therefore MP is better economically speaking.

If you are not willing to invest in storage tower for MP/RP and they fill up relatively slowly(for example, over 8 hours) or you are going to ditch them to a point where they fill slowly, it can be a bit more complicated depending your play style. Specifically, do you defend your planets? If so, how much and which ones?

5k MP will give ~100 EM, which is worth ~25-35M This value of course fluctuate with the market as well as your needs
so we are looking at 169-178M(gonna round inwards) per 5000, a 35-42% increase
The production increase on a 17X C over 16X VL is ~36% assuming same production/space. So by this alone, mining is better, usually.
But then the problem of defense comes.
If you defend planet equally or semi-equally, chances are a smaller % of space is used to defend the 17 C due to their large base size, and therefore the extra % might be higher and therefore making it better than the mining.
If you do not or barely defend the 16x VL minings(which are frankly near dirt cheap, just a bit to deter the newbies is enough usually) while placing more defense on the 17X C(which is likely a more valuable target), then you might spend more % space defending on the 17X C and therefore seals the deal for the toxics being better.

So, in the end it comes down to just how much resource your planets pump out. All else aside, if your 17x C can produce ~40% more RP than your toxics can produce MP, then the plasma just might be better. otherwise, stay to toxic.

This is the very important part that I was going to post. You want/need to have a mix because there are two bars that fill up.

I strongly disagree. You should max your productions out as much as possible, even if you cap in 3 hours.

*Ahem*

Minerals 37291 units / hour - 0 / 114000

Reason why? Well, that's simple too: You get more when you're online.

But storage is always a must have. I'm just too damn lazy to build storage planets myself.

But yeah... Mining all the way for CR. Easier to make and maintain, plus you keep more if you've got the rootnode.

If you want to compair, it looks somewere like this

Image

900 recearch pr hour = 900 * 25K = 22.5 mil cr pr hour
550 mining pr hour roughtly = 550 mil credits pr day = 22.9 mil cr pr hour

so if you are only looking at how many credits you will get, x17 plasma is basickly just as good as a x16 toxic

but as other players have mentioned, you also get EM from your mining planet, and you need Recearch points for some legion missions
and also, you can later turn 15 Toxic planets into Irradiated Massive(or colossal if you want to pay for 2 QSE's) Mining: 18x Mega Rich

on a planet like Gerhaillt (base production 39 mining), that's +39 extra mining from the 2 extra levels + 6 extra spaces to build on
so with the right artifacts, it will proberly be around 650 to 700 mining pr hour = 650 mil cr pr day = 27.1 mil cr pr hour

stole this one from someone, so it have a few more Artifacts and defence then what I would normaly run on a mining planet
but still shows what what productions levels you should expect to get from a x17 to x18 Massive Irradiated planet

Ah, thank you all for your posts, but sadly I have already made the choice to sell the RP planets and pick up a couple more mining planets. Losing the planets isn't too big of a problem, as I have a sufficient amount of scientists already. But research has no use to me anymore. I mean yes, I do still need to research a couple more things, but I'm not doing it anytime soon.

Storage Towers are not the problem for me, the problem is perm cloaking the planet easily. I don't believe in defense anymore. :P

The reason for this post is because I want to maximize my planet capacity for more artifact planets, and I'll be dropping the less effecient money makers for the better toxic planets. I didn't make my research planets pure production, so they only produced around 700/hr, whereas my toxic planets were pure production, producing similar to DarkMar's toxic.

Thank you all for your input, I really appreciate all of your input and I'm glad to know that so many of you guys are so willing to help the noobs of GL! :D

Perhaps it would be an option to start uplifting artifact production on your plasma planets if you are Taltherian and you have used at least 1 terraforming device on gas planet before turning it into plasma.

You can Urbanize a planet even if there is no Artifact availability.
