So we crazy folks at Martini Vanguard recently switched to % base payouts. Every. Day. Sacrilege, right? Heresy, right? What about feeding the hungry masses yearning to breathe free! Meh. Done that. Done that for years. Finally decided that those who invested should reap the rewards of the investment. We had a good group of folks. Some were on board, some weren't. We thinned out a bit but our leeching was reduced by 100%! You want a fat arti payout (and I know you do), invest! Set your own pay. Congrats to those who spend years dumping bazillions of resources into an even pay base. You'll get a nice gold watch when you retire, along with the same payout as those who do squat. Fantastic and good for you if you think that's how it should be... but... You wouldn't work hard at a job for years and years with no prospect of a raise, so why do it in a game? That's cold hard cash you're dropping. No shame in wanting to build your legion AND your ship. This isn't for everyone, and we don't want it to be. We have a fine level 7 with all the fixins. If you've got cubes saved up, if you've got GP to spend or if you just like capitalism, this is for you. Your legion will thank you for your contribution. Our legion will thank you and PAY you for it. You'd be surprised at the relatively low investment it takes to surpass what you are getting now. Not going to pretend it will happen overnight, mostly because I never lie, but it isn't that much. We are a fun group full of experienced players. We share planets, artis, yadda yadda yadda. We know what we want from the game and we offer open invitation to anyone of a like mind. We do everything all the other legions do, but we have accepted that being unabashedly greedy is ok with us. All about building the ship. It's not like great planets fall from the sky. If you're interested, ask or just apply. You know the rules, so unless you're a total prick, we'll take you. And if you ARE a total prick.. don't be. It's just a game. Cheers and happy hunting!

Some good points , but I think while trying to make a point you've gone overboard. Moochers as you call them do have a function, and if every good legion follows this idea, then nooblings will not have a good place to grow. The "moochers" provide base protection, loyalty bonus, planet protection and a few will grow up to be useful, loyal legion mates, I think it's worth the risk to feed some "moochers". In time you will know who the true moochers are...

I rather have moochers than have a legion with 20 people. The loss of the legion bonus alone for planetary defense/cloak has to be painful.

Thanks for the comments. They were as we expected. We don't LOVE having reduced planet defense, but it's not a big deal. It was part of the process in evaluating making a change. In the end, it's a game. We prefer to play it this way after having done it the "normal" way pretty well for a long time.
As to grooming lowbies for future glory, that's not really our thing anymore. Thankfully there are hundreds of other legions for players to learn the ropes. We prefer members who are past that stage and are ready for business.

Why is there so much hate out there for how we are playing the game? I feel like we are doing something politically incorrect.....Is this a mirror of our society that to reap the rewards of your labor is somehow bad or evil? To get something for no effort is good? Truly sad is how i'm feeling when folks leave comments after a base disable or planet theft that we are getting what we deserve?????? Seems to me if we had 60 ships all getting what they put into the base out of it and getting protection in numbers everyone would be in a win win situation. No this is not a place to go if you are lowrank and i think that is pretty obvious by who is in our legion but why all the hate? It truly saddens me.

You are purposely forcing the members of your legion, including yourself, to have less defended planets, either due to lack of defense or cloak or both. In return, you gain...nothing? Some people are confused by this, hence the "hate". As far as comparing this to any society..you do know this is a game, right?

Just because someone doesn't contribute to the base doesn't mean they don't contribute to the legion, passive things such as defence boosts, as well as active events such as npc alerts, planet alerts, pvp aide, and usually some pleasant conversation. When people feel they are an equal participant, it tends to encourage more activity which in turn benefits the legion.

Some people are confused by this, hence the "hate". They aren't forcing this on anyone. There are many legions that aren't full and are willing to give equal distribution at least 75% of them time. No one is forcing them to stay in that legion. No hate from me, I am interested in hearing how it works out for you.

ALL the "active" points were taken into account but when over a third of your legion just sits there and says nothing, doesn't share planets, npcs or artis with the legion.....I find that alarming in peoples attitudes. Yes i know its a game I've been playing nealy 4 years now myself....we the leadership just decided it was time to teach another important lesson be it in a game or real life. Nothing is free,at somepoint someone is paying the bill whether its energy,EM,ctp in a base or taxes in real life nothing is free for everyone. We invited all those who couldn't contribute to our level 7 base to move over to our sister legion that had a level 6 base with equal distribution still in effect and i came away surprised at how many didn't go there but just left the vanguard family period. Like how dare we take away the arti dist from the level 7 base with record levels of people in the U.S. on foodstamps and welfare i don't know why i let similar actions in a game surprise me. Meanwhile I'll just keep plugging away in a game i truly enjoy still playing with those who believe as i do "nothing is free".

Your constant comparisons between social safety net programs and your video game legion lead me to believe that you are not a smart person. Enjoy losing your planets and lower base production I guess.

Enjoy losing your planets and lower base production I guess. wow Maxer on welfare are you? and if he was, does that automatically entitle yourself to a holier than though attitude you appear to take? The point that he made in this thread was a very valid one, which is that in return for better planetary defenses and cloak, many many legions sacrifice activity for more members. Perhaps as more and more of your members lose their planets, they will realize that they do actually need more members, if only for their passive defensive services. If the loss of planets keeps occurring for them, they will either change their mind about wanting more lowbies/non-actives or they will choose to go elsewhere, will your legions stance on the subject change then? or will it stay the same even as you lose more members? Also, another reason why you guys may have gotten an incy wincy bit of hate, is that you turfed out all of these "leeches" as you call them, even though you willingly accepted them before, even when you knew what sort of players they were. Good for you guys for going % split all the time, but what if someone came into your legion, and rampaged all over your donations in a legitimate fashion, obliterating all of your guys % payouts and taking the majority share, would you gladly accept such a person or because your base shipments are now puny in comparison, change your mind, or just boot the guy for all his work? The reason i ask this, is because you essentially just booted however many guys, who for months(?) were assisting you with planet protection(might have been by passive means, but they were helping in a major way), and now they're just gone, tossed into the ether. In ending, i'd like to point out that in this thread, there wasn't really any hate per se for your legions approach, at least not to the level of which you(galaxis) apparently felt. It wasn't until you saw the need to come into the thread and start bashing on the "welfare" folk as you title them, that things kicked off a little. All that was posted until you showed up in this thread, was 3 people who each pointed out that they would gladly accept moochers, even if just for planetary defense purposes. I'd listen to Consigliere, when he says; Quote: so unless you're a total prick, we'll take you. And if you ARE a total prick.. don't be. It's just a game. That right there... Those are words to live by. There is zero reason to bring societal constructs or personal opinion on the welfare situation in your country into a forum for a GAME, let alone make comparisons that people who dislike you must be of the kind of people you consider scum.

The only problem with this methoid I can see are two fold
1) you need some HUGE trust that the guy on top of the legion isn't going to just let you dump your resources then dump you so he can still get his huge payout
2) you need to get people with a larger than average reserch in base logistics since the choice of "give the EM/CTP to person X for the base" is no longer a realistic option.

I thought this was a dumb idea at first, now you've made a total ass of yourself. I don't know where you get your sense of entitlement. You are saying you don't want to feed moochers, and you want people of rank 900+ who have done all their base research (mooched off another base by your definition) to come to you and then earn their place???? Why would anyone want to do that, especially with your attitude?? I am just looking forward to scanning your planets. If you have any good ones left. PS: PA accepted a dozen of the so called "moochers" that left your legion, and they are a delight, super helpful, chatty, friendly, great people, and they can "mooch" all the arti off of our base they want!!!

We did this a little bit in CN. We turned it on % for the weekends. Work great for a bit. Topper pumped all his extra energy in and was #1. Well it got crazy and next we were doing is on the next base level you were forced to not exceed so much Exotic matter. You couldn't contribute more than the energy you donated. This and that. It was more of a head ache than we really cared for.

Why dont we just say those in hospital are like your opinion of those on wellfare. Im not ill right now so I dont need to go to hospital or relly on the healthcare system at the moment. The fact that they need to fall back to the safety net of healthcare when things dont go right for them, something that they may not even be in controll of at all, should automatical make them theiving scammers? No, then why should it be any different for those who are unable to find a job despite the fact they want to and are willing to work but circumstances mean they cant find employment No one in their right minds would join your legion. Going production by percent all the time is showing that any member who joins up is effectivly seen as a moocher by you. They then need to pump hundreds of thousands of energy into the base before getting to the level considered by you as not a moocher. Honestly I would find it a little offensive as a new recruit that you put so little value in me and would most certainly think twice about joining when there are many other legions out there with much better attitude to their members. Oh and by the way hows your base production today galaxis
