I know a lot of people fear change, fear new ideas coming in and don't like change and are less inclined towards it. I see Open Recruitment as a way to get new players and most people who play a slow game tend to be somewhat impatient.

The idea I propose is this :

A ban list in the recruitment posting of players

So essentially when you post the posting people you know to be troublemakers whether it be via cussing your legion out or being obnoxious..... can't get in and abuse the system of Open Recruitment. They get denied entry. You['d just need to know the player name / spell it correctly & the game would automatically ban the player id regardless of if they change name during the posting.

Alternatively it could be a command line

/ban playername openrecruitment (period of posting)
/ban playername (the ban would only last 24,48,72 whatever hours by default; so Dan wouldn't have to remove anyone from any legion ban list)

"Well if you don't want players abusing your open recruitment posting don't use that method!" is the same as a rapist saying the other party wanted the action because they were too afraid to say no. Same logic here. Just my 2 cents.

Normally, I would say something like "If you don't like open recruitment, then don't use it", but I see something about rape in your post, so...

Let's see:
* Legion X wants to enable open recruitment, but doesn't want Player Y to able to join.
* Victim X wants "the action", but doesn't want Rapist Y to be a party to the action.

Victim X is too afraid to say no == What? Legion X is too afraid to boot Player Y?

I don't think an unwanted legion member raises to the same victimization level as rape, but OK - let's assume you know something I don't and consider both actions equally undesirable. Now, I think, in my humble opinion, that the rapist should actually just not rape people (radical idea, I know). In your analogy, that translate to "Player Y shouldn't join Legion X".

So, there you have it folks:

1. Don't rape people.
2. Don't join legions that don't want you there.

Plurvious this issue is a little less simplistic and troll-tastic as you're clearly enjoying right here trolling an idea instead of +1'ing or -1'ing with a valid reason.

My argument is beyond more than "Well if you don't want people joining you you shouldn't....".

Beyond the rape analogy.... do you think you have an absolute RIGHT to join any legion you want any time when someone puts "Open recruitment" just simply because it has "Open" in it? Or is it in Dan's best interests to continually babysit any users who potentially cuss legions out or bug them in a particular way against their will? I'm sorry if I see Legions as groups that should have more control over situations but that's just the way I see it. Forgive me for having an opinion on an issue most people just think that if it's on your plate deal with it. I have a sincere opinion for change here. If it doesn't happen my way that's just the way it goes.

My basis for this change is that I am pretty sure the new Recruitment system was supposed to be intended to make it easier for Legions to recruit. Not fufill your hunger to join in every legion with open recruitment and hit elites and exploit the system (I will admit this is something I'm prepared for; and if Legions want to prevent people from doing this.... why not? Will it hurt some nomad's feelings? As far as I know most people are in a Legion anyway and tend not to wander unless getting the invasion medal) OR cuss out legions or recruit spam them. It can be done on the battle tab right? Why can't you recruit spam people without joining open recruitment legions via the battle tab? Is it possible that not all those players are on your battle-tab rank range? Could it be easy pickings are just that? Easy pickings for scavengers. Because that's just what it is... an exploit of an unintended loophole that I'm not even sure was meant to exist within the overall game design.

Now I don't see why we can't leave it up to legions to decide which legion-hoppers they like or disprove of. Seeing as A) The forums have tons of recruitment threads. B)If a legion is that bad you'd think the player was intelligent enough to go find another legion themselves via the process of elimination reading people's sales pitches? C) If your legion is recruitment lower ranks; ask THEM to battle-tab spam the ship coms of other players for recruitment purposes. Unless of course your rationale is handing NPCs, Recruitment oppertunities & bad mouthing in every legion on a silver platter for people.

I suppose the fact that legions can /block playername from diplomacy legion coms doesn't tell you something about how Legions already have a mild form of fire control with potential abuse?

@Radical Idea@ When have you ever known someone to stop doing what they can do just because they can? And no I don't consider this a huge priority; but which ideas are or aren't? That's not up to me. I'm simply attempting to state my case for this idea; and I think between the original post and this.... I've said enough for sure.

Now that I've stepped over the line of pleasant analogies; I hope serious discussion can take place, anyone game for that? Or is it a closed book issue and the topic should be locked because it doesn't agree with a few people?

And in all honesty PLURVIOUS; I must thank you kindly for allowing me to delve deeper into this subject.

I don't know, man. I mean I'm not a big fan of rape, but "Open Recruitment" should be OPEN, no?

And who are these unruly misfit players roaming the galaxy, joining legions, causing mayhem (apparently), then leaving? Tha'ts the type of trollery I aspire to: HAHA!! I just ninja-joined, soft locked a queen, sent 400,000 dynite to a random legionmate, left some ASCII art on the legion comm, built some +4 mining structures on that alert that you colonized, then *poof* - I'm gone, all before you had a chance to say "no means no". Oh yea, and I called you a poo poo face on the way out.

But, if it helps your cause, I'll offer you some +1s:

+1 to being able to build a little list of people who aren't welcome in the legion (and can't join).
+1 to people carrying around a list of people who are explicitly not allowed rape them.

I read through your whole posts Major Kirrahe and I don't understand why you want this. Is someone repeatedly joining your legion?

Open recruitment makes it easier to join, and some undesirables get in using this option yes. But the greater issue is probably why leadership isn't on top to screen and accept/deny applicants. If too many are passing you by because you can't get to them fast enough, maybe you should talk to your leadership about making this a priority. Then you'll get your applicants and the security your looking for. You still won't get everybody but hey you'll definitely won't get the somebody you don't want. No system is perfect.

Yeah....

First thing drop the rape comparison, i don't even wanna go there on how that's not cool....

Secondly, if you don't want Icarium joining your legion then stop using open recruitment, and just leave it so that people have to request to join.

News Flash People!!!!

Just because you have open recruitment, doesn't mean you get more people clicking your legion button wanting to join.

All it means is rather than them having to wait to be accepted(which is where legions lose people, because the officers/leaders aren't active enough to accept new applicants), they are automatically a part of your legion.

Overall, i'd say this system gets more abusers than it does anything else. Heck, who wouldn't abuse it. There are likely 10+ fabs/dcn's sat in legions right now that have open slots, just begging for someone to skip in and skip out.

I'd say people walking around in public in the buff is almost asking to be raped(just "almost", but still, would you do that?)
you have the option to wear cloth--to not use open recruitment, and not. And you blame the game for it?

Now, I won't mind a ban list because it can only have benefits in concept.
However, Dan could use the time to do something better, something that helps more than just the legions who have a leadership malfunction.
Same goes to database room, would rather system resource to be allocated to, I say this again, something that helps more than just the legions who have a leadership malfunction.
so +0.1 to the suggestion for its uses.
-1 for wasting dan's time on your own problems
-1 for wasting system resource on your own problems
Your score, -1.9

Quite frankly, I'd rather have Dan work on module load-in/out system (that input output a hash code that we can copy paste, so not to waste storage), at least that will impact more people--everyone except the few that run a full ship(LSB are somewhat common, but not all of them run full ship). And even that, IMO, is bottom of the list. This would be somewhere around -0.5 for me (+0.5 as it impact more people, but still -1 cause Dan can use the time for something more useful.... like.... artifact multi use!!!)

Could be partnered with a white list for a nice little update.
